  1. We're buying a house right now so my secret stash has just bought me a new washer, fridge, oven and stove. I'm super excited over those things, but I'm hoping that after that I can save enough for extras like OOT bags and table stuff.
  2. really cool You should post a photo when it's all together
  3. It seems like you have a pretty good idea of what you want. I first started with picking the island that I wanted to have a DW on (looking at activities, how many tourists are there, etc) and then I started looking at tentative places/beaches. I also researched the wedding coordinator websites as they usually have examples of where to get married. Good luck!
  4. Just to keep this thread going, a few nights ago I was having weird DW dreams, which included that my FI and I were at the wedding location but the night before there was a concert in our hometown so my FI and I flew back for one night with the intention of flying back to the DW on the wedding day. I was a bit stressed out about this but it seemed to work out, but then an hour before the ceremony I realized that we had forgotten to buy our wedding rings, and I had also left my engagement ring back in our hometown. Then I looked outside and saw that it was sunset and realized that our ceremony was during sunset and we would miss all our couple sunset photos.... The wedding's 11 months away, and I was laughing that I am having these dreams now......what's it going to be like closer too?!??! It has also motivated me to sort out our wedding rings
  5. ya, I just sent out nagging email #1 and included the website, and my cousin responded with "wow I love the website!!!" ie she hadn't checked it in the 1 1/2 months since sending the STDs..... *sigh*
  6. It's overwhelming for all of us in the start, the best advice is to first figure out your budget, and then try to find something that works and has the core of what you want (beach wedding vs garden...etc) good luck!
  7. Exactly, more notice the better. We gave everyone a year, and did cheap postcards as STDs. Stick to your budget and you'll figure out what you can do.
  8. ha ha! I think that's very reasonable, I wanted to just send postcard STD's out and not do formal invites because the website has all the info for the wedding and location. My fiance wanted the formal invites sent though, so we are still doing them (only for the guests who are booked to go though). I knew a couple who just emailed all their guests a STD and only did formals for a a few. Just do what you want I say
  9. My FMIL was trying to show me dresses he minute we got engaged! Mine doesn't have any daughters so I think she see's this as a chance to do girlie stuff for a change. Just go with it but make sure you are ok with everything too!
  10. Hope your talk went well! I sent an email around to my important family members, and mentioned that we were interested in getting married in Hawaii and gave them a tentative time. In the end most said "great" or "we'll have to see" and I just picked a time that is reasonable for cheaper flights, hotels and a nice time of year. From that point on I let go of expectation and as long as the our parents were there i'd be happy. I suspect the older bro will not come anyways if he didn't give an excuse the first time around, but always worthwhile to make it look like you're trying to accommodate the family. But once something is booked, it's up to them to pull their fingers out and attend.
  11. I love the idea!!! Also love your mad-men dress, congrats for making it a special day!
  12. Not sure if you're still looking, but a friend of mine did that when she got married in march. She just called a few different Chinese companies and found a company that would do the flip flops for $1 each. They chose white (think that's the cheapest) with pink writing for the couples names and the date. They even got their names punched out of the flip flops so it left 'jicky's' (it's Jimmy and Vicky combined) all over the sand while people were walking. They ordered 80 pairs I think. I think she just looked/researched online, found some wholesale companies and called them up to negotiate a price. She did all this from Australia, but I'm sure you could find some company's in the states. Hope this helps!
  13. thanks for posting the bag website! I have been struggling to find cheap ones. Everything looked amazing!
  14. they look fantastic! I'm a bit more motivated to make some Love the bags!
  15. I'vee been using the RSVP function with our wedding website, and out of 228 STD's sent I have had 36 RSVP yes and 11 RSVP no.......we sent them at the end of Sept 2010 (gives everyone a year) and I stipulated that formal invitations will ONLY be sent to those who RSVP online. We are now sending mass emails out to people to a) remind them to RSVP yes or no telling them to check out the group discount code c) let them know if there are any good flights to Hawaii We haven't given a date for RSVPs (because there will always be people doing it a the last minute!) but I feel like I will be constantly nagging people.....I've also asked that "maybe's" RSVP attending just so that they can be kept in the loop. So I think no matter what you do, you'll be calling/emailing/nagging people to RSVP!
  16. I'm thinking of keeping it simple and finding some nice hawaii themed tank tops for all us girls to where. That way they can use them as beach where or as pjs.......I suspect I'll be buying there accessories/shoes or paying for the make up and hair, so it'll balance out there.
  17. I was wondering how big the maps of Maui are?
