I agree that a venue in a hotel is a great idea. WHat you could also consider as well is a conference room or a church facility where you could consider having the rehearsal and having light refreshments. I love the fact that the traditional rules don't HAVE to apply. You could have the venue at either place and have catered light hor d ouvres or someone cater something simple like pasta dishes/salad, etc. especially since you are budget sensitive. Originally I wanted a Jamaican rum cake but Keneika quoted me a price of $1000 for a wedding cake from the local vendor. WTF??!! I sent a pic of the cake I wanted , a 2 tiered Fondant and unfortunately they probably won't be able to recreate my cake. Can some of you RIU MB brides share your experiences or decision where the cake is concerned? thanks!

I agree. Your guests have different tastes, moods, level of physical stamina and interests. I would go to a trip advisor or a main websiiste and compile a general list of a select # of activities and advise them on how to book it. You can only provide a basic iteniary and if people are interested, leave the options up to them. Do not drive yourself crazy with planning their vacation for them. Best of Luck

That is more than generous! Wow. I would just provide a welcome letter and state just that (however you wish to word it) accomodations are paid for as a thank you gift and you guys saw their joining you guys as a generous favor to you both or something like that.

The Tivoli system is great as well and is compatible with Ipod. It is also reputed to be better than the Bose system.

Hey MontegoBay09, Here is the music info as quoted from Keneika (WC - RIU- Mo Bay): The actual ceremony with the Minister last for about 15-20 minutes however, you will need a CD with approximately 10 songs just in case however all the songs won't be played out especially for the processional. We will have someone to direct the music as per your instruction. You are only given one microphone at the ceremony.

A friend of mine got married there last year and it was absolutely amazing from the food to the service, definitely 4 - 5 star! I had considered them at one point but for budgetary reasons in addition to availability ( I would consult Rachel (the WC) now for summer to fall availability) it would not work. They only do one wedding per weekend for privacy reasons and ensuring the highlest level of attention to detail. If you can swing it, go for it.

If you get the sense that your MIL is feeling that way, then she probably is. You can start inviting her with you to appointments or give her a smal task and an overview of your wedding planning. As for me, I chose not to involve my MIL. Let's just say, its just best the less hands are in my planning. I wish you well.

The Prince George Ballroom is definitely one of the most romantic locations. They are located at 15 East 27th Street, or the the Conservatory Garden which is located at 5th Avenue and 105th Street, New York, NY. You may have to pay a fee for a permit. I would highly recommend that you take a look at the various gardens before you make your decision. There is also the Astra Café, which is located at 979 Third Ave, near 58th St, on the fourteenth floor. The telephone number is 212-644-9694. The Astra café is a beautiful evening wedding location any time of the year where the beautiful windows that cover two walls of the café and you can see all of the Manhattan lights at night

Am I the only one having "moments" where I feel guilty about spending all this money in the midst of a recession? There has been such a convergence of critical financial events lately and while my intent is to not bring everyone's mood down, I worry about the future and think this is money I could put away towards a rainy day/cushion. Do I need my head examined or do I need to chillax and enjoy what should be the most beautiful day of my life!!!! Just venting.....

I agree that first and foremost ou may want to consider postponing the wedding and also going to see a pre-marital counselor. Knowing that this was a joint decision and what was required, it is rather odd that he would spend all the money on the combo of needed items and nice to haves. I too agree that this will carry over into your marriage and at tha point it is much harder to sort through. I really wish you well and in the end it will work out in the end. Best of Luck.

The carriers to date that I have conversed with for policies are Travel Insurance and Fireman's Fund Insurance expanded its existing policy for weddings and other special events. WedSafe, a unit of Aon, also offers a wedding insurance policy.
