  1. I loved some of these, but my fiance didn't seem to like anything too creative and thought we should just go with the formal style. (Oh well, I get my way a lot of times!) So ours simply say: Together with their parents, S&S request the pleasure of the company of __________ following their wedding in Florida, at address for Reception with buffet on this date. We thought we'd put the 'together with their parents' as we totally planned and paid for our DW and sent the invitations from our baby son! I still don't expect them to pay for anything, but I thought it was a nice gesture as I think my mum was a little hurt that she wasn't on the other invite as is 'traditional'.
  2. Ha ha - thanks. It's easy to forget the fun bits sometimes with the stresses of planning
  3. Like (summer showers) Dislike (winter downpours)! Marmite?
  4. Sooo far to go, but I'm just getting started
  5. Aw, what a cute idea. Haven't really thought about this either as I also have to buy for his birthday straight after the wedding, which is normally quite tough as he seems to talk about something he wants and then goes out and buys it. I've had to return things a number of times coz he got there first!!
  6. Wow - I love that bouquet. I'm having turquoise and didn't think about flowers until I realised that you don't get turquoise flowers! I'm think I'm going to have a mainly white bouquet and will then have it wrapped with turquoise ribbon. I might opt for some bouquet beads in there but not sure. I'm only having 2 flower girls, so they will either get white pomanders or baskets with rose petals (just waiting for confirmation on what we are allowed at the venue)
  7. I agree that AmberW has suggested a very simple and eloquent way to say this - although I suspect you will still get calls from people asking "exactly what does that mean?"!!
  8. It's a bit of a tough one. I think we probably will give gifts to both mums (neither of our dads will be there). If the wedding was at home we would probably have given them a big bunch of flowers, but being overseas makes it a little trickier. I can definitely understand the people who aren't giving gifts but for me I want to acknowledge the support they are giving us. My mum has made my bridesmaid dresses so saved us money there, as well as written the invitations to our English reception (she does great calligraphy writing). My fiances mum hasn't done much but only because we haven't asked her to. She has walked her feet off keeping our 15 month old son amused while we shopped for wedding stuff though, and hasn't kicked up too much of a fuss about the fact we are only inviting a handful of people to the actual wedding. (Which is a big thing for her!) Not sure what to get them though :/
  9. I am so glad I have read this before we fly out - didn't even think about some of this. Although I am sure when I mention it to my fiance that he will laugh at my naivety! Thanks so much for your helpful hints - I think I have my definitive list now!
  10. This is a great idea. My sister just suggested it to me actually as a way to save my bouquet (sort of) - so I could dry some petals or a flower head and pop it in there. I actually think it'd make a cute gift for someone who wanted to but couldn't attend your wedding - so you could make them some with sand and a small beach charm and tell them you brought the beach back to them!
  11. Your diy projects are great - the problem with browsing these boards is that I could literally have every theme going as everyone has such great ideas! Can I ask a dumb question though? What is the purpose of the card box? I think it's an american tradition rather than an English one (although I could be completely wrong about that). I'm guessing it's just a really cute place for guests to leave their "happy wedding day" cards!
  12. What a lovely way to honour your mum. I would love to do something like that for my dad, but I am so worried that it will upset my mum. (After over 10 since his death, she still gets teary talking around anniversaries). She is quite a private person emotionally and I know she would struggle to hide it in front of other people, so I was thinking of having a small bouquet charm with a photo of him so I felt him there with me and I could show it to her privately without it being too obvious.
  13. I love these and was so tempted to make some as well, but was a little worried about hot sand so think I might opt for boring old flip flops. Maybe I should make some anyway for the honeymoon.
  14. What a great idea! I've made mine for the kids but never thought about the adults. Hmmm, think I might add that to my to do list. Thanks for sharing
  15. My invitations were sent ages ago and were shop bought, Although I did love them and they had a small element of DIY in them, I so wish that I had the time or the creative genius to have done something like this. Well done - I hope you are loving married life
  16. Oh - I just clicked the link and it didn't work. Does anyone know of a link that does work!?
  17. These are great - thanks for sharing. I've been looking for things that I can include that won't take up too much space in my luggage or the guests luggage either

  19. Should I be thankful or concerned that my fiance doesn't have a brother?! Feel sorry for the girl though
  20. Oh my gosh - I feel your pain! We were always planning a small wedding (although now with 6 weeks to go, my fiance decides to tell me that he had no issues with a large wedding and I just didn't listen hard enough but that's a whole other story!) Anyway - we are travelling from England and originally decided to just have immediate family. Then, because he is an only child and his dad isn't around, we realised this was a little unfair on his mum to be so outnumbered by my larger family. So we had a chat and decided to invite his family from the U.S as they would probably be unable to attend the UK reception. Although we decided to only invite aunts and uncles rather than cousins and family that he hadn't seen in years. So the first issue came when his aunt calls to give her response and says although she doesn't think they can make it, she is giving her invitation to her son, his wife and their 2 young children, oh and her other son who would like to come as well but he will come without his girlfriend! WTF?! Seriously? I am still reeling over the idea that an invitation is transferable, let alone transferable to more than the initial invited number of guests. Unfortunately, we are not having a formal wedding or reception - just a service on the beach and then a casual reception at our villa - so it was difficult to respond to that without causing huge issues within his family. We ended up saying they could come to the evening reception but the ceremony was just for immediate family. Then there has apparently been a big uproar in England from his family who have not been invited as to why others have and they haven't. His mum said 'oh but they have all been waiting for S to get married for ages'. So what?! He is a person with opinions and feelings, not an object and neither am I so surely it's up to us who we invite? I realise (with hindsight) that he needed to have a conversation with his family regarding our decisions, which we haven't really done as we expected his mum to pass on our comments (which was unfair) - so that is on our growing list of things to do. However I lost my temper the other day and told her that I was annoyed as, as far as I can see, the reason they are annoyed about not coming to the wedding is because they wanted am excuse for a holiday, a jolly knees up on someone else's expense and a family reunion. Not one of them seem to be concerned that they are missing our vows. Phew - ok, sorry for the me me me vent. I think I have been bottling that up for a while and it feels good to get it written down and off my chest. Sigh - sometimes I wish we'd just eloped!
  21. Anna Maria, June 2nd 2012. 6 weeks and counting!
  22. We're getting married on June 2nd - 6 weeks today! We have ordered our wedding rings (finally) but still need to get them sized and stuff. Still need to organise flowers, song list, get wedding outfits for my htb and baby son, organise a hair/makeup person, get wedding underwear (trickier than it sounds), and finish my OOT bags. Also need to finalise arrangements for the caterer. Hmmmm - still seems like a lot to do, but I have to be honest that I'm not someone that has been planning this from a young age and since we have a baby boy - he comes first most days and wedding stuff fits around him. It's only a small wedding though, so I'm kinda not *too* bothered if things aren't perfect (altho I'll probably have a different opinion on the day of the wedding!)
