  1. My cousin had a trio during the dinner hour for her wedding and it was awesome!!! Trios can be very festive or they can be very romantic (or both!) depending on the type of group you hire. In either case, it seems like it would be a good fit for your group given the size - versus mariachis which might be more overwhelming b/c they tend to be much louder. I really think you can't go wrong! Good luck!
  2. I didnt price it by week since I didnt negotiate a package deal (my guests are coming from all over the US). Instead, I looked to make sure the non-AI hotel prices offered by my resort were comparable to hotel prices that we had paid for recent domestic weddings. My FI and I are from opposite coasts so I figured at least 1/2 of our guests would be paying a few hundred $$ for flights. I didnt think it was fair to do the wedding in a hometown giving one family the travel advantage so that's why we chose a midpoint. When I compared bicoastal flight prices to the prices to Cancun, I realized they were very comparable (as compared to flights to Cabo or Puerto Vallarta). So in my mind, our guests are paying the same amount (in terms of hotel and flights) to go to our Riviera Maya wedding as they would have if we had made our wedding in NYC or SF or LA! If any of them express shock over the travel expense, I simply say "You would have paid at least as much if not more if we were having the wedding in NY!" And then they promptly quiet down. LOL!
  3. OMG, I LOVE this thread!! I can't wait to post my bouquet. So many great ideas here, woo hoo!

And FI thought I was isane the whole time, he just didn't want to ruin my fun. hundreds of dollars later, I now understand why this isn't the best idea. We were going to have black flowers (wonderful for photos, huh? lol) Moving on...I found a site that sells the realistic foam flowers. I have decided to do my own. FI and I like the orane flowers, so the bouquets will have orange...maybe some pinks and yellows. We haven't got that far into it yet. NOW I need a new dress, I also need to pick a color for the wedding party to wear. I was thinking about doing the pink/orange thing, but I know that would end with me having a butt load of orange and pink stuff. Then changing my mind again. Maybe we should do our wedding at a nudist colony. that way I only have to make up my mind about the flowers and decorations. Nix the clothing all together. lol I am so confused. We are on a really tight budget so I need to make up my mind and stick to it befre we are a couple thousand in the hole. Anybody else have the same problems? It would be nice to know I'm not alone thanks for reading Ah, it IS overwhelming so dont be so hard on yourself! I have spent HOURS and HOURS pouring over stupid palettes, staying up late for god knows what! In the end, I realized it made the most sense to pick colors that I personally loved. I am going w/ a tropical theme with vibrant blues, oranges, yellows, etc. b/c that's what made me the happiest! I think all of us brides should do the same As for BM dresses, my friend who got married a few years ago gave me a great piece of advice - pick a color that looks best on YOU. The BMs will be standing next to you so their dress colors should complement YOUR skin and make you pop all the more in your pics. Hopefully this will help w/ your color selection!
  5. Lady Di - I'm also considering having these as favors. I'll be down near Cancun/Playa in a few weeks and will be checking out Costco and other places. I'll let you know if I find any. I'm sure they have to be sold *somewhere* and we'll find that place!
  6. Wow, this is fantastic! Thanks for posting! Can I ask how you've liked working w/ Yazmin so far? What exactly will she be doing for you (versus Liliana)? I'm also considering getting a WC for the day of the wedding just to be sure all details are handled, but I'm not clear as to what they would do specifically...
  7. Vday - thanks so much for alerting us NY brides to the wholesale district!! Can't wait to check it out and get me some pashminas!!
  8. Welcome! Unfortunately, I have never been to those resort but I'm sure you'll find a lot of help here! Good luck!
  9. Welcome and good luck! If you can think of some criteria you know you definitely want in a hotel, let us know and we'll try to help you out!
  10. Has anyone tried Lorena Hijuelas - Untitled Document She has been recommended to me by my WC and I'm thinking of giving her a try...
  11. JD - I did a tour of the ceremony and reception areas during my last trip. It is absolutely STUNNING. The chapels are jaw dropping and the service seems to be first rate. I'm sure you will be very happy w/ your trip! I actually saw an episode of Platinum Weddings the other day that featured a couple getting married there. You might want to check it out!
  12. I LOVE IT !!!!!! Definitely different! Awesome - great job!! I am sure your guests will like them as much as we do!
  13. Has anyone ever traveled w/ babies or know of guests that traveled w/ babies?? I have some guests that will have 2-3 month olds by the time our wedding comes around and I would love to point them to some examples of people who have successfully traveled w/ babies the same age. Of course, I'm assuming it's safe but I'm not sure! Thoughts?
  14. When I picked my BMs, my main thought was: "Who do I want in the room with me the morning of my wedding day? Who will most help me relax, get ready and have fun??" If you still feel that way about your BMs, then don't fire them just yet! haha I do think that most people don't really know how to be a BM b/c every bride is so different. I honestly have not relied on my BMs for anything. My MOH has helped me w/ some research but that's b/c she loves wedding stuff, not necessarily b/c I needed her to do it for me. I would second TLC's advice and either meet with or send an email to your BMs with very specific requests for help. I think most people respond well to clear instructions. Also, what about getting your mom or FMIL to help? Is that an option? OMG, as for your FSILs... put them in charge of the guest book!! LOL!
  15. Emen - Thanks so much for you your insights!!! We booked Citlalli as well and I am so excited to meet her!! I love her work Thanks to your review, I'm going to reach out to Doranna and the mariachi as well. I'm so happy everything turned out as you wanted. Congratulations!!!
  16. Oh, thank GOD you made it to your wedding Vday!!! After all that hard work - I feel terrible you missed out on some of your scheduled time but so happy everything else worked out in the end!!!! Did all your guests make it? I hope so. Whatever the case, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

  18. jp - Here is a list of companies dedicated to linens and chairs in Cancun. While it may appear some may not speak English, you never know if you email them! http://www.cancun-ejecutivo.com/dire...An&g=Banquetes

I did not want to pay a minimum of $2,000 for flowers, so I chose Marvin as he has no minimum. Here is a link to his website. .::: Maya Diseño Floral Profesional :::. 20. BTW, I did find this link w/ a review of planner1: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...61009-a-48386/
  21. Hey Boo! My WC just recommended them as well. I dont know what to do either - I think I will ask for quotes from at least 1-2 more event planning companies if only to be clear re: pricing and options. Let us know how it goes if you decide to use planner1!

I feel kind of bad, but I don't want to go back and forth about it anymore. I actually would like SOME of my friends to attend the wedding, and if we keep changing the number of attendants, I'm afraid they'll all be mad and not show! Well, taking a step back, how many people would you have asked if you had not set these constraints? Does it match the # of people your FI wants to add? If so, I say go for it! (heck, even if the numbers don't perfectly match, still go for it!) I dont think you should feel weird about going back and asking your friends to be in your wedding. They may be miffed that you didnt do so at the onset, but in the end, I think they would be very excited to participate in your day.
  23. I'm so excited to have found this thread!!! So far, I have been to: Pronovias, Designer Loft and The White Gown (Brooklyn). While I love the Pronovias setting, I have to confess I was a little disappointed by the customer service - the girls seemed very uninterested in whether or not I found anything I liked. I am going to give them another try next week though. I REALLY like their dresses so I'm hoping they were having an off day. Designer Loft was so odd! The dresses were all smashed up along the wracks and they were not well cared for at all! However, their prices ranged from $1,000 to well over $5,000 (not to mention that they were featured in My Fair Wedding). I really had high hopes for this place but won't be going back. Finally, the White Gown (in DUMBO) was so cute! Nice, open spaces and the girl who helped me is also a seamstress so she was explaining to me the alterations that could be made on the dresses as I tried them on. That was so cool! I actually found a dress from Enzoani which may be "the one" but I am not committing until I try on a few others I have in mind b/c I just can't help myself.
