  1. Well, I'm not sure if you're having a rehearsal dinner or cocktail hour, but perhaps you can incorporate island music then. Presumably, your guests will want to dance to music they already know, so I'd save the well known music for your reception
  2. For all members who have had outdoor wedding receptions on or near the beach: 1. How windy did it get throughout the cocktail hour/reception? Was it ever disruptive? 2. Were your guests always comfortable? 3. Would you still choose to have an outdoor reception if you could do it over? I am having second thoughts over having my wedding outdoors. Based on the last 2 times I went to Cancun, it was very windy in the evenings and not the ideal environment I would envision for a reception. My FI is pushing the idea but I dont want to risk having my guests be uncomfortable. Plus I HATE being cold!!!! Your feedback is appreciated (vendors feel free to chime in too)!
  3. Ack, that's a tough call. If you can designate someone in your wedding party to play the right songs at the right times, then I think I-pod would be ok (followed by disco at the hotel or off site!). At the end of the day though, you gotta DANCE!!!!!!
  4. Since this is a thread about chair sashes, I have a question for you ladies - Do you have any ideas for unique applications of chair sashes?? I dont want to pay extra to have Tiffany chairs for our reception but I would like to do something a little different than just a bow in the back of each chair. Is anyone here doing something unusual w/ their sashes (could be adding flowers or tying differently, etc.)?
  5. Ok this is my stupid question of the day. Clearly I've seen the old rice throwing done in the movies but... as I was thinking about this more, I realize that walking out of a church (which will be my case), the bride and groom, along w/ their wedding party, typically leave the church before all other guests and often go directly to take pictures rather than do a receiving line. So the question is - at what point do the guests throw rice, blow bubbles, etc??! I can't picture it now, clearly I'm going batty!!!

  10. StephyD - if you do a search of Claudia's name, you'll find tons of reviews. She is very well liked on this forum!
  11. ooh, I dont know yet! people are arriving on different days so I'm tempted to have the front desk give them away as people check in. however, I think it's a nicer surprise for people to arrive at their rooms and see a gift waiting for them.

Like I told my hubby to be - everyone has known about this wedding for over a year and if they really wanted to go they would have saved. So it must not have been that important to them. Oh NO!!!! I'm so frustrated for you!!! I'm with you- if they really wanted to be there, they would have made the effort. Screw that - no need to worry about it as long as the most important ppl to you are there.
  13. Hi rkf - I've seen other threads before but for some reason they are not popping up on the search function. Here are a few: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...-brides-35675/ http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...-brides-50152/ http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...d-bride-51591/ Whatever the case, I considered this hotel and REALLY liked it. Eva, the wedding coordinator, is so sweet and responsive and the hotel grounds are beautiful. They have a lot of character. I also thought their packages were reasonably priced. Here is Eva's info. She speaks English so communicating directly is not a problem. She was awesome. 14. snow, are you sure your guests would arrive so late on Friday? We are having a Saturday wedding too and I have been surprised to find that almost all guests so far are planning on arriving that Thursday, if not earlier. In either case, I do agree w/ a dinner for the wedding. I'm sure everyone would appreciate it (even if it's at the expense of a rehearsal dinner or sunday brunch). If you dont feel comfortable having dinner at Coyoba Gardens, what about moving the reception to a nearby hotel or restaurant?
  15. Hi aby - yes, I'll be getting married there in Nov. Everything has been great so far, so if you have any questions, ask away.

I called a week or two ago and spoke w/ the receptionist about the Pre-Cana and meeting w/ the priest. Luckily I did not get the same response that you had, she was just rather like "OH! wow! Congratulations!" The priest wasn't in that afternoon and she was going to have him call me back. Well, it's going on 3 weeks now and I have yet to hear from him.. I guess I could be the better person and pull him aside after church one Sunday but honestly I'm terrified! Since we are just doing our site visits this coming week, I figured I would hit the ball hard when I got back. Since Pre-Cana takes time and so does getting an approval letter, I'm trying to get it all out of the way as soon as I can. I would be devastated to have had planned a beautiful wedding, only to find out I couldn't get approved for it. Ah! I can't even go there. How were you able to meet w/ the Mexican priest? Do you mind me asking who you are using? Does he speak English? I would love to meet up with a priest while we are there next week. I hear you. I feel odd about pulling the priest aside after church to get on his calendar! I'm still trying to think of other strategies for now.. (sigh). I found the priest through my WC, as he is based in the parish nearest to the hotel (yes, he speaks English). What hotel are you getting married at? That might dictate the parish where you'll want to get married. Once you decide, then you'll need to inquire which priests there speak English. Unless you have a relationship w/ a specific priest, I dont know how willing they are to perform weddings in adjoining parishes that are not their own. Your WC should be able to give you some leads though!
  17. PS. I agree that the prices in Mexico can be outrageous! I think it's important to push back. Unfortunately, since most wedding parties are small, it's hard to get leverage. Thank goodness for this forum - it's been invaluable for understanding the process! As for planning progress, so far, I have: sent out STDs bought my DRESS!! (YESS) booked DJ, photographer and church/priest Currently working on: finalizing invitations (planning in sending next month) reviewing florists and decorators figuring out rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks logistics

  19. I am planning on giving mini tequila bottles (to make absolutely SURE everyone uses their favor!!! haha). Still trying to figure out how to best attach the escort card to the bottles though.. hmm.
  20. Thanks for sharing. I'm so sorry to hear about your issues w/ your WC though!!!! If I were in your shoes, I would definitely put in a call or email to management to let them know! Whatever the case, congratulations!
  21. I love Ginger!! She did my STD postcards too. I will have to post them soon - our guests gave us so many compliments!!

I have been researching on the web but am afraid to use someone that I do not know about or have any referrals. A lot of the photographers I find are also very pricey... Kamila is up to $500 for a group and the only one I found that seems reputable on LI is Longislandboudoirphotography, and they are $475 and if you want dvd of prints it is an additional $500!!! huh? I don't want something sketchy where they will sell my pics online after I leave or kidnap me and sell me on the black market(sorry my mom has brainwashed me!)... any suggestions for reputable photographers on Long Island or NYC? LMAO!! Slaps that was hysterical! Did you ever get a BD session after all (and live to tell about it!!! hahahaa)? As for the price issue, did anyone here who got a BD session in NY think they overpaid or got a product NOT worth the $500+ amount charged??

And if so, how did your home church take the news about the destination wedding? Did anyone run into any difficulties along the way? My fiance and I are just starting to work with the priest in our home parish about Pre-cana, etc... Crossing my fingers he doesn't disapprove of the destination thing... Hi adrida- You must be very excited for your site visit!! Hope it goes well. Yes, I'm planning a Catholic wedding. I've had more success meeting w/ the priest in Mexico (we did a site visit several weeks ago) than our priest here in NY! It's been IMPOSSIBLE. I've called the church secretary at least half a dozen times and also left messages for the priest at least 3 times. Short of going to mass and cornering him afterward, I am not sure what else to do. W/ regard to your concern, the church secretary gave us a bunch of attitude when I told her we werent getting married here ( what the?!! lol)! However, we have to have an approval letter from our local parish in order for the priest in Mexico to marry us, so.... I'm hoping this added effort will make us appreciate our ceremony that much more! haha
