  1. Talk to your wedding coordinator about renting heat lamps as back up (or bonfire if on the beach?) if you're really worried about guests being cold. Or.... if you don't mind, you can decide to move the wedding indoors (at most places I've contacted, they can decide that morning whether to move the party indoors). Personally, I'm considering having the cocktail hour outdoors and reception indoors b/c of the wind! If you plan to get out there early, you'll know after a day whether the evening weather is tolerable for you so don't fret - just go prepared! Regardless of how cool, it's going to be a fun time!
  2. But I have no idea where to look! Does anyone know of designers that might have some Mexican or Spanish themed collections? This one I found kinda has the lace going for it but I think it might be a bit too much on me. Bridal Gowns: Style jh8011 by Jim Hjelm Oh, and did I mention I would love to have some subtle shades of color in it?? Thanks in advance!
  3. I think they are both very nice! You will look great in either of them. Far more importantly, though, which one do you FEEL the best in? You need to feel stunning in your dress! Of course, if the alternation cannot be done in time for Dress #1 then I guess your choice is made!
  4. Oh wow, this idea totally brought back memories! My cousin's videographer did this for his wedding some years back and my family STILL laughs at me for my drunken words of advice I completely forgot but now that you mentioned it, I will definitely plan on doing this too! thanks!
  5. I, for one, don't think you should be so worried. First of all, it's not a good idea for her to travel when she's so far along in her pregnancy - especially if she has never been to Mexico before. The risk of her having a sensitive stomach and/or getting sick for ANY reason is not worth the danger to her baby. Hopefully her doctor will convince her of that. Secondly, most reasonable guests know full well that the bride is the center of the show. I've been to many many weddings in the last few years and there's often one person (i.e., inappropriately slutty guest, drama queen aunt, etc.) that screams for attention. Most guests rightly choose to ignore these people and appreciate the wedding for what it is - a celebration of the couple's union. Your best path forward is to make sure that you look fabulous, that you feel great about your new life w/ your hubby, and that you appreciate your friends and family who will, in fact, be there just for YOU! And be sure to lean on your other BM's who will give you the support, time and attention you need to have a happy wedding
  6. Oh my goodness - I had to laugh over all these items I had yet to think of! Thank you for sharing!
  7. I too agree the website is the best place for details on the rates. I think the more information you can put on there to help them make their decision (like info re: upgrades, etc), the better. People will appreciate that you have made the effort to reduce their expenses. However, if you're worried about deals expiring, etc., maybe you can add a brief footnote or other language to the STD encouraging guests to visit the website right away for limited offers.
  8. I have found the beaches can vary quite a bit - geography is not the only factor. For instance, in Cancun along the hotel zone, there are some hotels w/ practically no beach, some hotels w/ very rocky beach and some hotels w/ big open beach areas (i.e., the Westin). Trip Advisor reviews generally touch on these points but you can also contact the hotels directly and they should be able to tell you. Even in Playa del Carmen, which is farther down along the coast, you can find hotels w/ little or no beach area. That said, I would guess most hotels have great beach areas and those that don't are the exception.
  9. Ah, I forgot to mention, for weather related psychosis, I have enjoyed using this weather tool. I like that you can get statistics for specific dates. Does anyone have other sites they can suggest? History : Weather Underground
  10. For anyone interested in Puerto Morelos, I found this map to be useful as it details the proximity of the different resorts to one another. http://www.puertomorelos.com.mx/word...o-area-map.pdf
  11. I saw the weather reports and noticed the incoming rain Out of curiosity, what types of weather contingency plans do people have in place?
  12. Hey everyone, Thanks so much for the welcoming messages! I have been considering contacting a TA but just wasn't sure if they could negotiate better terms than we could w/ the hotels directly (I previously reached out to a handful of wedding coordinators but they only referred me to the big resorts). Can any of you recommend TA's that have experience handling extra big groups? As for our search so far, unfortunately, the smaller hotels we've found have either (1) prohibitively high room rates for our guests (there is no way we can ask our guests to pay upwards of $400 a night!!!) or (2) not enough rooms! We are also considering an off-site location (including haciendas) but we havent found any so far that can fit so many people. We have our work cut out for us!
  13. Hi, My name is Elana We are planning our wedding for Fall 2010 (Date TBD!) We are searching for boutique hotels in the Riviera Maya region. We are expecting a guest list of up to 170 ppl!!! However, we are looking for smaller hotels that we could potentially fill up. Any suggestions for boutiques in the Cancun area? I've narrowed down a few in the PDC area but so far it doesnt look promising.
