In an ideal world, I would still do my day job, but also run a resume writing/critiquing business and write articles for HR publications. I am also a recruiter, but I am no longer enjoying it. I want to do something different, but haven't quite decided what the something else is yet. I need to stay at my current job at least until next year since we need the money for the wedding and we're planning to move to AZ. I hope to find a new job out there that will be more enjoyable. I took a pastry class thinking I would go back to school to become a pastry chef. I really enjoyed the one class I took, but unfortunately won't be able to take any more this year that will work around my work schedule. You also don't make a lot of money in that industry when you are starting out, and I am the bread winner unfortunately. I have also thought about going back to school to become a nurse, but I'm not sure I would enjoy that. I worked in the x-ray department of a hospital part-time for 5 years while I was in school (in addition to a PT recruiting job which is how I ended up where I am), and kick myself everyday that I didn't do go to school for something in the medical field back then. A lot of my friends are x-ray, cat scan or ultrasound techs now and only went to school for 2 years. Most of them worked at the hospital I did while in school so they had their degrees paid for. Most of them are making more than me, and I have a Bachelor's degree and $40K of student loan debt. Now there are waiting lists to get into those programs and you have to be in them FT. The things we learn as we get older.

Anyone use SPANX?
beachbride08 replied to beachbride09's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I haven't tried the original Spanx, but have tried the Assets brand from Target. I hated them! The tope kept rolling over and it ended up making me look worse. I had to keep going to the bathroom to adjust, and eventually just ook them off. -

I want to start keeping track again because I was doing so well when I was following the program. I think I am going to dig out a skinny pic and put it up on the fridge as my motivation. I only have 4 months and want to lose as much as I can, and I still have a long way to go.

I started a new thread on this last night, but wanted to post here as well. FI and I had our legal ceremony yesterday. He is off work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and we went to get the license on Monday. They had Wednesday available for the wedding and this week happened to be a slow week for me due to the holiday so I was able to take a personal day for the ceremony. It didn't give us much time to plan anything, but it was just going to be us anyway. I went and found a dress at Target Tuesday night. The ceremony only took 2 minutes, and then we went out for lunch downtown. We also spent the whole day together (which we never get to do) shopping, and we went and got cupcakes for dessert. It was really a perfect day.

I would forward the emails that Fabio sent you stating the decorations were included, and if you have any information on the spa credit. If they won't give you a break, then I would send the quotes from the outside vendors to see if they will match or beat their prices or else you will be using them instead. I would also restate your frustration with the manager as maybe they need to step in again with this Fabio.

We had our legal wedding today which was totally planned last minute. I found a dress at Target last night to wear today. The ceremony took about 2 minutes, and then we took a couple pics and left to go out for lunch. We spent the day downtown shopping, and went and got cupcakes for dessert. My FI and I rarely get to spend a day together since our schedules conflict so it was nice to spend the day together. Please don't mind my fatness in the pics! Hopefully they will motivate me to lose more weight before our Mexico wedding.

I got a really cute picture frame from my cousin. It looks like an engagement ring with this big crystal diamond on top and it says just the beginning on it. I think it was from Kohl's. One of my friend's also got me a jewelry cleaner and manicure gift certificate since she said my nails had to look good to show off my new ring. I thought that was really cute.

OMG! I can't believe everything that happened on your wedding day. What a great story to share! You looked beautiful and I love your dress. Congratulations!

I am a corporate recruiter and currently work from home 3 days/wk, and once we move to AZ after the wedding will be working FT from home out there (until I find a new position out there). I am probably one of the few people that does not enjoy working from home. It is nice to save money on gas and be able to run errands when needed. However, I feel like like the line between work and home life is blurred (although my company benefits since I end up working more hours from home than I do when I go into the office). My job requires you to have a flexible schedule since I recruit for jobs across the US so I am constantly scheduling meetings with hiring managers and candidates in different time zones and working around candidate's work schedules if they are unable to do phone interviews during business hours. I also miss having the interaction with my team which is why I enjoy going into the office. I talk to them on the phone, but after doing phone interviews with candidates all day the last thing I want to do is talk on the phone! I really want to change careers since I think I am also just getting burnt out with what I do, but haven't decided what I want to do.

We are on our our 3rd flight change. First American canceled the direct flight we were on, and we were put on a connecting flight in Dallas. The layover was only 30 minutes so our TA was nervous that we wouldn't have enough time, and since we are flying out of O'Hare where flights are always screwed up or delayed we switched to a connection in Miami with a longer layover. Then, our TA found a direct flight on United so now we are booked on that and so is my BM and her husband so that worked out. I'm still pissed about the baggage charges, but what are you gonna do.

Karma (FutureMrsB's) Planning Thread

Everything looks fantastic! Your guests are going to love the Tiffany necklace favors, that is probably the best favor I have ever seen. Your dress is beautiful! Have a great time and congratulations! -
Does your e-ring have pave diamonds on it or is it smooth? My e-ring is pave iwth a millgrain edge, and it doesn't bother me. It is pretty skinny so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I did have to get used to wearing my e-ring, but more just to get used to wearing a ring on that finger, not sure it was the setting. Now I don't like not having it on so maybe over time you will get used to it.

My FI and I are in a similar situation. He leaves for work at 5 because he has to clock in my 5:45am. He is up and gone before I even think about getting up. He also has a very physical job, and no real set end time for his shift. Some days he gets home early, and others late. When it is late he is useless because he is so exhausted. He also works over the weekend which is when I'm off so I am always stuck going to all the family and friend functions alone-which I hate-because he goes to bed super early. He is off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays which are the days I go into the office so he takes me to the train and we usually go to dinner or a movie on Monday or Tuesday night since he doesn't need to be up early. You got to just find a schedule that works for both of you, and make the best of the situation even though I know it sucks.

Legal ceremony on Wednesday-what to wear?

Might be a little cheaper That would be cute, and had I had more time I would have spent time trying to find something fun to wear. I'm going shopping today over my lunch hour to see if I can find something. There is a Macy's and H&M down the street from my office so I will see what I find. Otherwise, I did find a white eyelet summery top in my closet that I can fall back on. Thank you for all the suggestions ladies! -

Everything is booked under my current name so I don't want to start changing things until we get back from Mexico, but then Christmas will be coming so it probably won't be until next year that I start the name change process. We chose our location based on the cost and the centralized location for those that we really wanted to be able to attend. I think I picked my resort too quickly as I really didn't research many other options in Riviera Maya or Cancun for that matter, and started to regret our choice once I found out other places could have offered private dinners, more options with ceremony decor, etc. In the end I am glad we will have our immediate families and friends there that may not have been able to attend if we would have gone with a different location (Cayman was our first choice) or a more expensive resort.

Well, after some back and forth on where and when we should have our legal ceremony, my FI and I have decided to do a quickie courthouse wedding this Wednesday. We went and got our marriage license, and scheduled our wedding for Wednesday since we are both off. I didn't really have much time to plan, and have nothing to wear! The only "white" dressy thing I have is my real wedding dress. Maybe I will run over to white house black market tonight and see if they have something. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Maybe this should have been posted under attire? Mods please move if needed.

What are you planning to do during summer 2008?
beachbride08 replied to DreamsTulumBride's topic in Random Thoughts
I'm jealous of the teachers who have the summers off. Maybe I should look into a career change? I won't be doing much of anything this summer since most of my time off is being used for the wedding, as well as, all my money! Ha ha!
