  1. Ok... the other day I was at my mom's house and she showed me a dress she wants to wear for the ceremony. It was white with black dots and a black trim. My answer: Mom, as this is my special day, you can go shopping and get a different dress. I hope you understand that I want to be the ONLY one in white. she insisted it's not white, but said: ok, if you say so. Now we're plannig a trip to US to go shopping. I would just sit down and explain how you feel - politely from the heart. Say: mom, please don't be upset, but I would really appreciate if you did not wear the dress. This is a very special day for me, and the only thing I ask, is that I am the only bride on stage. The dress you have is VERY pretty, and you can wear it whenever you want it, but it would mean a great deal to me if you did not wear it on our wedding day. Don't stress over this - say it like it is. She can take it or leave it. If she doesn't take it well, that's when your FI steps in.
  2. I have a great low-cal breafkast. Probably a weekend breakfast thing, but if you make extras, you can have it for the toaster/microwave. 1 cup of oats 1 cup of cottage cheese (I use 1% ) 6 egg whites bit of cinammon either peacan or walnuts (just a handful) teaspon of Vanilla (optional) and I add a bit of honey (again - optional but adds that bit of taste) I also started adding flax seed lately. Put all ingredients in a blender, blend it and then make it just like pancakes. This receipe should give you about 10 oat pancakes. If I skip the honey and vanilla in the blender, I 'sprinkle' chopped apples, or berries with a bit of honey on top. 3 of these are still less calories than one regular pancake. Quite filling too. Enjoy
  3. Hi Ladies, I'm not from the UK, but I have guests who are interested in traveling to my wedding out of England. Would any of you be able to suggest a travel agency in the London or Birmingham area where I could send my friends? We're going to Jamaica, and they prefer not to book directly with the operator. Have any of you heard of Benz Travel? They offered a great rate, but some of the reviews are a bit scary. Please help MB
  4. Thanks - I am an early riser (even if drinking a bit too much in the evening), so instead of browsing through empty resort, I'll hit the gym for a bit. Get my dinner reseravations done too..... ALSO... make sure that you do drink water. This is where most of us fail on holidays as we drink the other stuff, and forget to get the water in...
  5. Hi Girls.. Do you by any chance know where I can get nice and cheap sarongs/ pareos in Southern Ontario.
  6. I think I may be a trophy wife to be LOL.. he's 10 yrs older
  7. oh my... i just found out that i'll be there 5 days prior to my wedding (flight change!!).. I'm thinking; a size bigger dress should do the trick , but on the serious note, I never over eat - I do induldge, but not that I can't move. I think I'll actually have to use the gym facilities this time around LOL
  8. Perhaps she's afraid she's going to loose her brother? Or just jelous of everything you guys have? Or just needs to see a professional? This really sucks. I know what you mean about not going to her level. Remeber- it is YOUR day. Don't let her get under your skin. It sounds like a sister in law from hell.... but WTF - inviting his ex to a Christmas dinner? Does anyone else see this in his family? I'm not a specialist in this field, but perhaps get your FI to say something to her - strongly. Sorry to hear you're having this happen to you.
  9. Well, I must admit - when I first read this thread - I was sure it WOULDN'T happen to me... Hell - it did!!! Our cut off date was Jan. 31. So on the 26th we went to book my brother's girlfriend and they are unable to give us the addition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, we only have our family booked, and the only good thing is that there is a flight day after - but - really - How many seats do you have booked on the plane? You ladies said that they may want to put a surcharge of $80-400. They are better not ask this of us. It's so flipping annoying. We're not getting married till Sept. 2011. My FI says not to stress, but it just pisses the living hell out of me! To answer the Qstion about TICO, they can't do anything about this. It's only when Sunquest mishandles your money.
  10. I think people will take pictures on the digital cams... I would just ask guests to make you a cd once they return with the photos. I know that some will drag their feet, but it may be just a waste of money (although not an issue) to actually put these. BUT if you have kids coming, I would give them each one camera. We did that once for a anniversary and couldn't believe the pictures kids took. They are awesome. They feel like they have a 'mission' at the party....
  11. Ha... I know I posted on this thread previously, but I'll give you another one.... How about a guest telling you: " why did you book only a regular room". "can't you guys afford to get a superior suite"...and "why only a semi-private dinner, you guys don't want to pay for private?"... how about you book your ticket first, and then tell me what to do!
  12. Hey Girls.... Just thought I would ask... have you ever gotten so mad at your FI that you just took of the ring the threw it LOL? And then five minutes later you want it back ????
  13. I agree with this post. We also had a similar situations, but not as with 'strangers'. Just people we did not care nor want to invite. SO... I'm very blunt with some people (invited guests) and tell them as it is.. "I don't care if they come. The resort is huge, I'm sure they can find something to do when you are attending our wedding celebrations." You got to love the looks on their faces.. "oh... I didn't know that they couldn't come"... well shit - did I invite them????
  14. Guys will be guys.. .and nothing can change that. Mine told me to just 'run things by him' lol .. whatever that means. In the begnining he seemed that he doesn't care - just wants whatever makes me happy. I complained to him that it's our day and I value his input. So now, when I show him some details, he adds his opinion. For example, the invites: we had two colours for the cover - I couldn't decide, well, we were on opposite side of the colours. FI said: get our kid to decide. Awesome - no argument (but glad kid went MY way LOL). Then I presented colours for decor... AND THIS LEFT ME SPEECHLESS for days... I showed him Aqua decor and fuschia/orange. He said the PINK one is the nicest. This coming from a guy who will not even wear a pink tie!!!!!!!!!!!! We don't have the registry going (we have everything), but I know he wouldn't really want to go. Not because it's "for me", but because he hates that kind of shopping with me. He just mokes me all the time: "Maybe this one, or maybe this one". Finally ending with "Will you already make up your mind!" HAHA...
  15. Sept. 15th, 2011.... Toiinlove - that was my original date !!!!! Unfortunately the tour operotors do not offere flights on days to allow me to have the date!!!!
  16. I told the people that most matter to me to be there; parents/siblings etc. They have already booked. The rest will get invitations, and I will leave it up to them to do whatever they want. Just like you, I don't want to pressure them into booking, so we have stated on our website that we have a made a group booking, the conditions of booking, but also stipulated that we want the best financial option for them, so they are free to research on their own. Of course, it's a bonus if they book with us as we get a free package for every 16 booked, but like you said - no pressures. As long as you sit down and talk with them - explain - then leave it in their hands. ....
  17. I'm not getting married at Iberostar, but we went there a couple years ago. Keep in mind we went just to the Rose Hall (not suites)... but - we travelled at the end of October and booked the trip in July. For an upgraded ocean view room we paid aroubd 975 inclusive of tax. This is how a friend of mine explained it (she works for groups at one of the operators). The price may go down, or may go up. This depends on the inventory status. For example, if they plane is half empty at the time you're going, they will lower their rates to fill it up. BUT if they are almost full, they will ramp up the price to get the most $ out of it. I would contact several agencies (they really dont need to specialize in weddings as long as they are capable of looking after groups - you, after all will end up dealing with the wedding coordinator on your own. It's just a matter of booking the wedding with the hotel). Once you get price comparisons - make sure to ask them to get quotes from different operators. Some will be askig you to pay a fee for them to check different operators, then you just say: ok - I'll just go someplace else. It does not cost them to get a quote. Ensure you ask about price drop guarantee for your group. This is the 'bonus' from some operators: if the price drops before the wedding (depends on the operator but it usually is around 60 days or more prior to departure), they will allow you one time price change.
  18. so I did request a quote from them when I started searching for prices. I'm very for first impression, and I wasn't impressed with the telephone converstation. They sent me a quote; a few buck more than what we are actually locked in with another agent now. THE BIG DIFFERENCE IS that they would not pass on the price drop guarantee from the operator (the resort we're going to is only offered by one operator). The agent we're with now, is doing this for us. So even if the price does not go down... we had that option. BUT if the price does go down, we can have it. They are just a travel agency who have done wedding bookings - not coordination of the wedding.
  19. Ladies, sorry to sound 'stupid' but are you telling me these flowers are fake????????
  20. ooohhh. so happy I came across this thread. I found the website mentioned a few days ago, and I can't stop admiring the flowers. Even with the price tag of approx $200 (my and MOH bouquet, plus three guys)... this is still about $150 cheaper than getting what you want at the resort. The only problem I'm having is deciding which one i like best
  21. Thanks everyone... I also do believe that your vacation is what you make of it, and like Dmitri said, sometimes the places with most wonderful reviews turn out to be disappointing.... Everyone has different expectations - mine are as long as there food, alcohol, and a beautiful beach - things will be peachy
