  1. That's annoying. But like others have said, Jamaica is much easier to get to and is cheaper, plus people were probably already planning to attend yours. You've definitely got a leg up on her! (I love how I'm pushing the competition, oops!)
  2. I wouldn't get the alterations done at DB. I would take it to a local person. I lucked out...my alterations were included in the price of the dress.
  3. I don't think you're wrong in not wanting her to be at your wedding. The one thing I could see FI having a problem with is that you "forgot" to send the invitation, meaning he wasn't expecting to have to deal with drama in his family about her not be invited. I would be annoyed about being blind-sided like that.
  4. Oh, that's just bad. I could totally see my SIL doing this. She can be so mean to my mother. I don't blame you for being pissed.
  5. I would recommend contacting Awesome Caribbean Weddings. I haven't used them myself, but have heard wonderful things about them. Their website is Awesome Caribbean Weddings - Your Wedding in St. Lucia, St. Lucia wedding planners for unique Caribbean weddings As for affordability, the villa we rented (we split the cost with our guests) came with cooks, so we had a lot of homemade meals which saved a ton of money. (We chose to do a villa because we wanted to have a place for just us and our guests. We also had a 2nd villa a few minutes away.) For the wedding, we got married on Pigeon Island, had the reception dinner (cocktail hour paid per drink, 8 different canapes, soup or salad, and a choice of 3 entrees) at Jacques Waterfront Dining for about $3500, then went back to the villa for cake and dancing. We had 34 people. Probably the biggest budget blower in St. Lucia is the taxis. It's definitely expensive to get around, but renting a car wasn't an option for us because I wasn't going to tackle left-hand side driving! Check out Coco Palm and Harmony Suites for affordable hotels. They're so close to everything. My parents stayed at Harmony for a few days and really enjoyed it. I hope I'm being more helpful than confusing! And if you really want AI, don't let me discourage you from that!
  6. This is why it's not good to go messing with a bunch of drugs.
  7. OK, I've decided that Andi, Erika, Yael, and Stacey just follow each other around on this forum! Not much to update in my life. I feel like I'm going through a job crisis. I can't figure out what I want to do that will keep me happy for more than 2 years! What I do know is that I am not happy right now and life is too short to feel this way! I cannot believe how many babies are going to be born soon on BDW! Congrats to all the soon-to-be mommies!
  8. Hi Callie! Welcome to the St. Lucia brides thread! Here are some AI's on the island: Windjammer Sandals (adults only) Rendezvous (adults only) Almond Morgan Bay Almond Smugglers Cove Coconut Bay (pretty secluded, but I've stayed there) Rex Resorts I've stayed at both AI and non-AI on St. Lucia, and personally, I liked non-AI better (there are so many awesome restaurants on the island). Many non-AI places come with wedding coordinators, so I wouldn't totally count them out. I lucked out because our private villa came with one who was just phenomenal. But anyway, I'm not here to change your mind! I would recommend avoiding the Soufriere area since you're on a tight budget because it tends to be more expensive. Will you have children at your wedding? Just to let you know, you're choosing a great place to start your outside-of-US travels. St. Lucia is a very friendly island and I felt totally safe there. You're going to LOVE it!
  9. This is almost exactly how we felt about our AHR. We had it 8 days after we came home (I know, insane), but we were so happy to just have it and be done with it. I didn't wear my dress again either.
  10. That's great news! Good luck on your 2nd interview!
  11. Aw, so sweet JM! I remember reading posts in the past about your frustrations with the women you were dating. It's so great to see you so in love and happy!
  12. That's crazy! Although I must say it brings back memories of high school. Bomb threats were called in all the time there.
  13. I don't have any advice on the amount you need, but I can tell you that having a ribbon made for a funny time while cutting the cake. We obviously couldn't cut through the ribbon and I couldn't get the knife under the piece of cake we cut to pull it out! Everyone was like, you can't cut a cake? It took like a full minute which felt like an eternity. Too funny! Anyway, just thought I'd give you a heads up!
  14. That's great! Don't you love when things work out the way they're supposed to? Have fun at the party on Saturday! (And makes lots of money on Friday and Sunday!)
  15. Wow, what is wrong with people? I don't remember him either, I'll have to look him up. On second thought, why give his name more hits on Google? Pig!
  16. Hello Elizabeth. Unfortunately both suggestions you've received so far are from brides getting married within 10 days of you! My photographer, Kristi Klemens of KLK Photography, was phenomenal! I am so happy with my pictures and our friends and family keep making comments on how she truly captured our personalities. She was great to have around for a few days in St. Lucia. We also hired her fiance, Paul Bennett of Blue Sky Videos, for videography and we just loved him and his work as well. I have posted our slideshows and a video on the forum, so check them out! Here are their websites: KLK PHOTOGRAPHY Blue Sky Videos- Southern California Wedding Videography They'll travel pretty much anywhere. Let her know that I referred you and she'll probably work out a discount for you. Good luck!

  19. We rented a covered pavillion at a park for our AHR and it worked out great. We decided to have a pig roast, so we hired a local deli to cater the event. It was perfect. So glad we didn't soak a lot of money into a fancy reception.
