My mom and FMIL are set on a shower! And since we are having an AHR, I don't think it would be tacky. There will be only about 35 people at the DW, but we're at 215 for the guest list for the AHR so I think I can get away with a shower

I agree with the other posters. My FI and I are in the same position as you. Neither of us drink (and haven't for some time), and a good amount of our friends also don't. But all of your family, and some of our other friends do drink. We decided to go with the open bar, but that's completely your preference. We are having a formal reception, as though we had a traditional wedding, since we are getting married in the off-season for where I live and were able to get a tremendous deal. Whatever you choose, it's your day!

Will you be having a wedding website? If so, you can always attach your registry on the site (most will let you do this - I know weddingwire which I use definitely does. You can always include your wedding website on the invites.

We are doing the same thing - DW (55 ppl invited) and AHR (215 ppl invited) after. We sent STDs to the ppl we are inviting to the DW a year in advance with info for our website on it where it lets them know that we are having an AHR - this way people who can't afford the DW will know they can still celebrate with us. We will then send out invites to them in a few months for the DW Then, we will be sending out normal invitations to everyone for the AHR - we're actually looking around on sites for them now! If you are looking for traditional invites, it's not a bad idea to start looking now since sites will actually send out free samples on invitations to you so you can get a better handle on what you want. Good luck! On both the STDs as well as the invites, we will have the wedding website listed. I think that will be a huge help in keeping ppl informed as well as communicating info.
