All my sister's did this at their weddings. It was a lot of fun for everyone and very funny at points. -
One bag per couple with doubles and a separte bag for any singles and the kiddies

I wouldn't assign people from separate "cliques" at the same table in too obvious of a way. I understand you want everyone to mingle, but you don't want a silent reception or upset guests that act like children when they don't get to sit where they want. -
