  1. I don't know what I would do without this site!! I mean even my own mother and FMIL aren't really that excited about the DW - and those are the 2 people that you would expect to be ALL OVER the planning, right? I've accepted the fact that neither of them are 100% thrilled with us having a DW because it's not traditional and because most of our family is going to miss out on this special day, but you'd think they'd at least show a little excitement - geez. I have a feeling that as the big day gets closer and they actually start thinking about the vacation and how much fun we'll all have, they'll eventually get more excited, but for right now it kinda sucks. And for all of you other brides who don't have anyone to share in your excitement - I am EXCITED for all of you!!!! All of our DW weddings are going to be WAY more fun than a traditional wedding whether we have people that share our excitement or not!!!

I think some of the other brides had some good suggestions, but no matter what you do, getting people to RSVP seems to be a common struggle. I know we asked for a "pre-RSVP" on our web site, but got NO responses. We've also tried just verbally asking people and we usually get a vague response and they say they have to figure out finances or vacation days, etc. I feel like people are waiting for an "official" invitation before booking or RSVP'ing. And even then I'm sure a lot of people are going to drag their feet. It's frustrating because 1) these were the same people who in the beginning were all for the DW and super excited about going and 2) it's just really difficult to plan anything. I have a feeling I'm going to be stuck doing a lot of things last minute because of not knowing how many guests we're going to end up having
  3. What amazing pics!! I know someone else already mentioned it, but I love the ones of the trains moving in the background - very cool!!
  4. I'm so sorry to hear about your accident But I just had to comment on how super sweet the BDW brides were for putting together the care package. Just goes to show how truly caring the members on this forum really are!! What a kind gesture to all of you that helped in putting that together :)

Because of all the positive things we've heard about it, we're seriously considering it for a future vacation and would love to get another person's opinion as well

I've been watching the countdown on FB, lol. I think it's awesome that you have a flexible schedule where you can do something like that, and just pack up and go! If you were stuck with a 9-5 job, it might be difficult to make this work And I have no doubt that you will win the family over - judging by previous posts it sounds like her mom already likes you And for the record, similar to others, I also just about peed my pants watching the youtube video, lmao!! How can you not fall in love with a guy that can make you laugh like that?!?

You have the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other, and it's a really scenic ride. And every time I've made the drive, our driver will stop along the way for us to use the restroom, grab a few more beers and take some pictures. And the sunset is amazing there as well. Plus you can watch the cliff divers - or even take a dive yourself (I've jumped from the cliffs there befoe and it was a blast!). And to top it off, they have some really good food as well. I say go for it!

I would recommend hiring a taxi/van/bus depending on how many people you have going with you. Typically this is something your resort can assist you with. I haven't been down there in awhile, but I believe you're pretty much on the same road the entire time - the road just winds along the coast and will take you from Montego Bay all the way to Negril - it's called Norman Manley Blvd. And yes, it should take about an hour and a half. You'll have a great time if you go
  10. Definitely like the idea about the double sided tape - thank you!! We actually use it in my office for some projects, so I know I can order it through our supplier - I should have thought of that! And all of the paper will come pre-cut except for one of the insert cards, where I need to cut off a 1/4 inch from the height - and that I'm having done by a friend who is a printer (he's doing the printing and any cutting for me). Just need to make sure I can line everything up straight when assembling them.
  11. So I have been shopping around and I'm seriously considering making my own invites. I really like the pocketfold style but they just seem much too expensive to have professionally done. So I have figured out that I can buy all the paper for less than $250 (for 115 invites) and I can handle the printing and assembly on my own. So here's my question....my invite will have a mat backing, so I'll need to glue the invite to the mat, and then the mat to the pocketfold (or vice versa). But I'm really concerned about making sure the invite and the mat backing are glued on straight so everything looks neat and professional. For those of you that have done your own invites, how hard was it to make sure the invite was glued on straight and wasn't crooked or sloppy looking? Do you have any helpful hints/tricks?

I work with a girl who has stayed at The Sands several times and LOVES it - as in it's her favorite place ever according to her, lol. She and her husband went down there several years ago, and just loved it SO much that they have went back at least once a year every year and they always stay at The Sands. Her pictures looked amazing - I'm sure your DW is going to me beautiful!!

So you know what my flowers look like, here they are so you can envision them on the cake! I think it will look magnificent! Christie - I agree that this cake is beautiful and perfect for a DW - but did you see the pictures the bride posted showing how her cake really turned out? Just don't want you to be disappointed But if you are sure that the resort can duplicate the cake, I think ti would be beautiful with the orchids in your color!
  15. Just thought I'd share another one, where not only does the one chick get hurt but then the student and teacher end up in a fight, lol. YouTube - When Pole Dancing Class goes wrong! Note to self - don't go here for pole dancing lessons!
  16. Congratulations and to the forum!! Personally I don't think you should worry about what's "appropriate". I think you should find a dress that is flattering and that YOU feel gorgeous in. This is your day and you should be able to wear whatever dress you want
  17. Welcome back! The pics are beautiful and it sounds like you had an amazing time. We are also getting married in Negril, but at a different resort. I still can't wait to read your review
  18. I'm still trying to decide on this as well. My original thought was to have them waiting in their room at the resort once they check in - I thought it would be a nice surprise. But I've read on here somewhere that some resorts will charge you a fee to have the bags placed in the room?! C'mon - how hard is it just to place a bag in someone's room? I'm going to try and see if our WC can do this without having to charge us a fee. If I can't do it that way, I may have to hand them out at a welcome dinner.
  19. Yay - another Chicago bride!! Congratulations and to the forum!! And ditto to what Christie said below, lol - Quote: Originally Posted by islandbride317 You're gonna LOVE being a part of this amazing forum!!! And that's where this phenomenal site comes in: BDW has proven to be invaluable in my planning, and it's comforting to know that there are other brides and grooms out there experiencing the same highs and lows during their planning process...a friend is always just on the other side of your computer screen!
  20. Sorry to hear that your planning is off to a rough start but with all the great info on this forum, I'm sure you'll find what you need to make it easier. Congratulations and welcome!!!
  21. Yes, I have dated someone 10 years younger than me And actually my FI is 7 years younger, lol. Would you ever stop using birth control but not tell your FI/husband?
  22. I would think they have their own music as it probably coordinates with their routine.
