RIU resorts-outside photographer policy
Jamaica0619 replied to FutureMRS.'s topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I guess to add one last confirmation...I was told the same about RMB - the photographer either had to be a guest of the resort/wedding or I had to purchase a day pass for her. -

LilPaisley's Riu MoBay Wedding Review 2/28/09
Jamaica0619 replied to Lilpaisley's topic in Destination Wedding Reviews
Congratulations! It looks like you had an absolutely beautiful wedding! Thank you for the review. I never thought about getting married at the west end of the beach, but I am definitely considering it. It looks like it would be more private than at the beach gazebo. And, that section of beach is really beautiful. -
Back from RMB and a Mrs!

Leaving tomorrow!!!!
Jamaica0619 replied to jamaica2009bride's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Have a wonderful time and a wonderful wedding day!!!! -
I personally would go with Punta Cana Wedding Photographer (#2) just based on the photos posted on the website. I prefer a more photojournalistic style - unique camera angles, different framing and more candid-type pictures (even if they are posed). It appears that the second one uses that approach more. The pictures on the other site seemed to be those that are more "typical". But that is my personal preference, in part you will ahve to decide the style you want for your pictures. There is nothing wrong with the second photographer.

Well, we got our taxes back tonight and we are getting a nice refund! It will help with all the wedding stuff. Except I used an accountant since we sold/bought a home. What a waste - $275 each (since we are still filing single - get married this year). I should have done them myself! I have done mine every year, and I should have stuck with that plan.

Waiting period to get married?
Jamaica0619 replied to mellibean's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I am probably not going to clarify this issue any better, but it might reinforce the fact that you don't get a straight answer. The WC at RMB said that we should be there a full two days before the wedding (e.g., our wedding is on Friday, we should arrive on Tuesday). However, during the same meeting she said that she had a couple arrive the night before the wedding and that she had to meet with them and arrange everything in less than 24 hours and was able to pull it off. -
Anyone else's mom freaking out over TTD?
Jamaica0619 replied to Kristy!'s topic in Just venting or funnies
My mom thought I was a little crazy but figured whatever I want to do...until I showed her a thread in the Jamaica subform that shows a TTD at Dunn's River Falls. She could not get over how nice the pictures look. Also, she finally understood that trash just means it gets wet (really wet) and a little dirty. Also, I explained that it will clean fine... Actually, when I mentioned it to my photographer to see if she could do a TTD session with us the day after the wedding (we are flying a local photogapher down to Jamaica), she explained that she loves to do these sessions and that she calls them "Love the Dress" sessions...it sounds more romantic and much nicer. -
Congrats! Welcome to the forum and happy planning. You will find a lot of great information on here.

Mascara: Waterproof or no? What do you use?
Jamaica0619 replied to Debs's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
I use Smashbox Bionic mascara - not waterproof day-to-day. It just enhances my lashes, which is perfect for me. I plan to get a waterproof mascara for the wedding but will buy it just a couple weeks before hand. -
I used the following example as a base, but modified it so that it was more suitable: Monica Hilton and Matt Leblanc will begin their lives together on October 25, 2012 at Sunset Beach Resort of Nassau, Bahamas Please join us in a celebration of our marriage at an open house Friday, November 9, 2012 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. 277 West Bay Avenue Pleasant View, Utah 84414 It is from the following website Invitation Wording Samples by InvitationConsultants.com - Destination Wedding - Tropical

I have personally seen it done two ways. You could have the MOH hold (usually she places it on one of her fingers) the soon-to-be DH ring while the BM holds yours. Or the BM can hold on to both rings (usually in his pants pocket. We are having a ring bearer, but a combination of a 4 year old and sand and expensive rings does not work well in my mind, so I plan to give them to the BM to hold.

I have nearly convinced my FI to do a TTD session. I am not worried about my dress, becuase I really don't intend to wear it again. I'll have another dress for the AHR. Also, from what I have read on this forum, the wedding dresses tend to clean fine, and are as good as new, if not cleaner than before the TTD session. However, as my FI wants to wear his clothes to the AHR he is worried how they will come out. The pants and shirt are a 55% Linen/45% Rayon mix that are supposed to be dry cleaned only. Can anyone let me know how easily the guys clothes cleaned up after the TTD session. I am hoping to do something at Dunn's River Falls - the pictures I have seen are amazing. If this is posted somewhere else, please point me to it. I couldn't find anything.

Show off your shoes....
Jamaica0619 replied to twinkletoes's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I am wearing the following for the wedding in Jamaica. I wanted to find something with a bit of a heel that I could wear in the sand. And, my BMs are in red. I am going to get a differet pair for the AHR since I will be wearing a cocktail length dress. -
Others may have even more insight into this. But, when I was doing research into where to have the wedding I ran into this. I found it to be particulalry true in locations where Christianity is the dominant religion.

Since the guys are taking care of thier own attire and the travel for themselves, we are getting them nice watches - my FI is a watch-guy so it is fitting from him and great for the guys. The girls were easier becuase I'm covering the cost of thier dresses, jewelery, shoes and the spa (hair and nails) the day of the wedding. So, I am not getting them a "gift" per se, but covering all expenses except travel.

We won't have to file jointly until next year, but I am nervous myself. I spoke to the accountant this year - we bought a house this year in both our names but are still single, so I didn't want to deal with the taxes - and he highly suggested we come back in September of this year and he can do a prelimiary estimate. If it looks like we will owe, we can pre-pay some of it to avoid additional penalties and so we do not owe as much when we actually file.

We have wills, but not healthcare power of attorney or living wills - we probably should take care of that now that we will be getting married. From experience, I would highly recommend having all three in place and have them drawn up by a lawyer. A lawyer will make sure all issues are address, will help you to avoid any legal loopholes, and will be able to provide you unbiased advice. You hate to think about it, but if the time comes when these documents need to come into play, just becuase you have expressed your desires to each other, others may not concur with those decision and can cause you a lot of grief (at what might already be a very difficult time) trying to follow through on your wishes if they are not spelled out in a legal document.
