  1. Congrats and welcome to the forum, this place has tons of great tips and information!!
  2. I am having my wedding at the Riu Santa Fe in Jan. We are planning on renting the disco out from 8-11 for a small receptions. The Disco opens at 11 to the public. Basically we plan on burning all of the songs we want on a cd for the DJ. Erika said the cost is $500 and that includes bartenders and a DJ. I also asked her if we could bring our own DJ and she said not at this time, but we'll see when we get there, as we have one traveling with us. I guess I'm not too picky as far as what it looks like, we may decorate on some of the tables. I just wanted some sort of private party for our guests.
  3. Thank you so much for this site!!!! I have been looking forever for bamboo sticks and the only places I have been able to find them online they come in 8 foot lengths, which ends up to be outragous to ship. Thanks again.
  4. The pictures look fabulous. I just love the way the colors of the water and the sky are so vibrant in some of the pictures.
  5. For our ceremony, I plan to have "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" playing while people are being seated and the Groom, MOH and BM walk in. I am walking down the aisle to "I Could Not Ask For More" if there is time during sand ceremony I would have "Better Together" playing and we will be exiting to "Beautiful Day" Although these aren't traditional "wedding" songs, they fit us as a couple.
  6. We are also getting married at 4 pm, I am not sure what the Riu-MB has available, but I am getting married at the Riu Santa Fe and after the wedding we plan to take group pictures and then invite guests to have casual cocktails at the Sports Bar on site while we take family and couples pictures. We are having dinner at 7 and have rented the disco out from 8-11 for dancing. I made a wedding timeline to share with guests, so they know where to be at what time since our wedding stuff is happening in a few different locations on resort.
  7. Welcome to the forum. You will find great information on here!
  8. If you still have the J Crew Ava dress for sale I would be interested in that. PM me and let me know. Thanks!
  9. Congrats and welcome to the forum. I am also a fellow Riu bride, but in Cabo!
  10. Our guests are traveling from a few different destinations. But most are traveling from Minneapolis to Cabo. For the 7 night trip to an all inclusive with airfare included the cost was $1300 per person.
  11. I am going barefoot for the ceremony and then wearing decorated flip flops for dinner and reception.
  12. For those of you that had the Mariachi band at your wedding. Did they play before, during and after the wedding ceremony for you? For those that had them during the wedding, do you think it was worth it or would you have preferred to prepare your own songs on an I-pod or cd? Because it is relatively expensive for Mariachi's ($500-800) I want to be sure it is worth it. I was also considered just having them play during dinner, but I don't even know if people would notice.
  13. This picture should be clearer, sorry about the first one.
  14. I just finished boutonnieres. Please let me know if there is anything I should add or change about them. Thanks!
  15. I plan on bringing my own chair bows as well. I just bought 6" wide organza ribbon and am planning on using that. You can find many colors on e-bay or if you just do a search on google or yahoo. They also have this in 6" or 12" in tulle. I thought this would be much simplier than trying to sew satin. It is also very economical compared to renting them at your destination.
  16. I don't think that this will be weird. I have seen many weddings at home that have an uneven number of attendants. This is also the beauty of having a destination wedding-anything goes! When there is an uneven number of attendants, you could have one groomsman escort 2 bridesmaids down the aisle or have the groomsmen standing along with groom as the bridesmaids and you enter. I think the most important thing is that you have people who are truely special to both of you representing you on your wedding.
  17. Everything looks great, I think it is awesome you are able to get the dresses and excursions for your bridesmaids.
  18. We have been encountering the same issue, with some of our guests wanting to use their timeshares. We were up front with them and also posted it on our website, saying that because it is an all-inclusive resort, the resort charges any guests prefering to stay at another resort a $100 day fee on the day of the wedding. I think it would also depend on how many people are planning on staying off the resort.
  19. Congrats Abbie! I am glad to hear that you had a good experience at the hotel because we will be staying there in Jan.
  20. Wow, they really have some cute things on this site. Thanks for sharing.
  21. We are getting married as soon as our "wait" period is over, which is 2 full business days. We decided to do it this way because we felt we could truly relax after the ceremony is over. Another thing to consider is if your guests are staying a different number of days than you are, which days they will be there.
  22. I think it looks great. Your guests will really appreciate the information, I like how you included facts about the airport as well, because many people can get overwhelmed when they enter the Cancun airport and see the slough of timeshare people and baggage handlers. Nice job!
  23. A great product for wrinkles would be Clinique's Repairwear line. They have a day and a night cream, the day cream has an SPF of 15, which is very important in helping to fight the signs of ageing. Each product is $49 and all of their products are allergy tested and fragrance-free, which eliminates a lot of the chances that her skin will breakout or react to the product.
  24. We did our website 10 months in advance. I would say that you could make one anytime, I would definitely include it in your STD or invites. This will definitely help with all of the questions. I think its great for guests who have never traveled to your location as well, because you can give them a heads up on what to expect.
