Welcome! This is a great source of information!!!
  2. That really stinks! Keep your head up and remember things happen for a reason. Also, try craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums, you might find some good leads there!
  3. We are going to have my FI's brother-in-law take pictures as a way to save money and he is really good at it as well. Does anyone have a wedding picture list that they gave to their photographer about what type of pictures they wanted taken? I am just thinking that if I dont' have a list before hand of pictures like _ bride & mother, bride, mother & sister's, etc.. that I'll end up forgetting to tell him the day of and miss out on pictures. Thanks
  4. We are looking at getting married at the Barcelo Palace, - Mayan Riviera, we know generally what type of package we want and how many people might be coming. What we don't know is how to choose a TA. We live in VT and we went to one TA and she gave us a price that I could have found myself online or possibly even cheaper. I thought a TA would get me an even better deal than that. So, my question is, are people going with TA's from their home state, are they going with one with a lot of experience with the area/resort they want to get married at, and are they going with TA's from formus like this one, even though they have never met them? I guess I am jsut confused about figuring this piece out! We want to get the best deal possible for us and our friends and family, without getting scammed! thanks in advance for the help!
  5. Sorry to hear about this, it really sucks. I don't know if this is possible but could you talk to your TA about selling off those tickets? perhaps you locked in at a good rate and someone would be willing to pay you back the deposit and pay off the rest of the ticket?!
  6. we're going to have the same problem..only have 40ish we want to go to the wedding, but a lot more to the AHR..
  7. Oh, I really like TammyB's idea of having the families present the rings! Thanks for mentioning that!
  8. Could she come with you and be in the ceremony but then go home with one of your good friends? That way you get the best of both worlds?
  9. Looking for some help, we think we have narrowed it down to either Dreams Tulum or Barcelo Maya Palace. We are going to have in the neigborhood of 45 people, and several kids from 2-8, so need to have some kids stuff..Just want to hear what people have to say, I'm sure there will be some biased, but we're looking for any and all info. we can get!!!! Thanks
  10. I think that would be a great song to walk too. And like Amanda said above, how nice that your Fiance has some input!
  11. I have a question about STD cards and invitations. We have about 40-50 people we want to invite to our DW but at the same time want people to know we are engaged and getting married and when we get back from the DW we are having a reception. I am trying to think of how you tactually do that. What I have thought is send out a STD card with "we are getting married in Mexico on such a such date with a VT Reception when we get back - more information to come!" and then send out invitations with specific details to those we want to come to the DW and general reception invitiations to those we'd want to have come to the reception. I don't know if I am just making this harder than it needs to be but at the same time I don't want to hurt feelings by having to tell someone we hadn't planned on them coming and we can't afford it.
  12. Welcome! This is a great place to find out a lot of great information! We are looking at getting married in the Mayan Riviera as well but we are looking at the Barcelo - Palace. We know others who have been and loved it! I know that doesn't help answer your question but perhaps you'll check it out and love it. Happy planning!
  13. Congrats and good luck planning!
  14. Are the centerpieces people are posting stuff that they will be bringing with them or options that the resorts supply? Thanks!
  15. I am warming up to the idea of a Civil Cermony at home. It saves you the money of having to get the blood tests done (well at least in Mexico), and you don't have to arrive 3-4 days in advance of your actually wedding day to and I am sure there are some other savings as well. I guess I am just going to look at it like having two weddings and one just happens to make it so friends and families get a vacation.
  16. How far ahead off time did you book your date at the Palace??
  17. Hi! Well, not even "officially" engaged yet...but sometime very soon..trying to plan ahead as much as possible..We're sort of putting the cart before the horse... Looking at May of 2009 in Mexico, possibly Barcelo Maya, but havn't made any definate decisions....All sorts of questions....
