worried about low attendance for our wedding

Recommended Posts

My fiancé and I are going through this now. We invited 30 and 8 are coming. It's pretty disappointing as our close friends aren't going to be able to attend even though they said they would. My fiancé even travelled across Canada to be a part of their wedding but what can you do? Silly, I know they felt bad because they only confirmed they couldn't make it one month before the wedding. None of my family can make it due to health problems/finances either.

I know I will have fun on the day but I kind of wish our core people were there. Get ready for the disappointment but you will still have a great time I'm sure.

I was worried at first too, but my fiance put it nicely and said that our closest friends and family will try everything they can to come and if its just me and him, we'll still have an amazing time! thats why i love this guy

We have had a pretty good turn out so I can't complain, but some important people are not coming. And some people are angry We are doing destination and expect people to pay so much to travel and some people just can't afford it. Bottom line it's what my fiancé and I want, we are both travellers and always dreamed of going away. We did pick an affordable resort in hopes people could make it and I think that helped. Everyone who can't come are missing out on all the fun !!

I was concerned at first with our guest attendance. We invited 60 ppl and as of yesterday 16 have booked. At total I'm guessing that we will have 25 ppl (including our 9 attendants). The way I have dealt with the disappointment is adding things to the wedding that I may not have added with a large group (ex. Welcome cocktail, excursions for the group). At the end of the day the ppl that care the most will move mountains to celebrate this special day with you!

I haven't set my date yet, but this is something that my fiance and I have worried about.  I know I'll be disappointed if certain people don't go; however, my fiance cheered me up and said that at the end of the day all he wants to do is marry me and all I want to do is marry him so I think as long as we're doing just everything is fine.  At the end of the day all you need is love.

we invited around 95 people including children and expected around 40 had about 40 pay deposits.  our full payment is due at the end of the month and we've had about 7 cancellations =(  No point in worrying until the final numbers are in (at least that is what I keep telling myself)

We both come from large families and invited about 140 people. So far we have over 60 booked and are thinking we will be close to 80. We are incredibly blessed and happy that so many can attend....but our wallets are definitely feeling the pinch! We have had to decide to not do OOT bags and other extras as the cost and packing would just be way to much and the added costs of have over 25 people is crazy!! Our cheapo DW has turned out to be more than we originally thought!! But we still can't wait for our big day and to celebrate with so many people who love us that much!

This really bothered us for a few months. So much so that it actually made me not look forward to our wedding, and we were starting to think about an AHR, etc. I didn't want to talk about the wedding to people (minus this forum haha) and I found myself even resenting people that weren't coming that had promised they would. I'm still a bit sad about some people, but I am trying to get over it. I do feel like some relationships/friendships have shifted because of it though

Now though we're 5 months away, and I am happy to say that the excitement is slowly coming back as I start on OOT bags and decorations. I'm focusing on the people that are coming, and as so many mentioned before, feeling very blessed that they have chosen to come with us. We invited about 120 people and we think we'll have about 40 as our final count. I think the wedding will be a blast, and I'm trying to do as much as I can to make sure everyone that comes along to Cancun with us has the best time ever so we all come back home tanned, happy and hungover (haha) and rub it in everyone else's faces that decided not to come! :P

That's the best attitude you can have! I've said it before a number of times on this site. It is what it is. There isn't anything you can do about it. You need to just roll with it and move forward. We had everyone think that they were going to change our minds if most backed out and that we would switch to doing a wedding here at home instead, just to save them money and we didn't even have a big group to begin with. We even lost the best man and maid of honour and they got married at a  destination wedding!! We had everyone in the beginning that was going and everyone was looking forward to it, but as soon as a few backed out, then the rest were worred that if we lost the group rate they would have to pay more. We had the last laugh in the end because we booked just about 2 months ahead and saved $300 each off the cost of what the group rate was. I don't know yet if we get to renew our vows next year what will happen and if we'll have anyone go with us from the ones that are saying yes now. But at this point I really don't care. If it happens that we celebrate on our own, then so be it.

    • Hi Everyone, So, I was cleaning out my closet and realized that I never sold off my extra wedding OOT bag stuff from our wonderful DW.   46 Daily Spanish for Dummies 30 Pool colored OOT fabric bags - approximately 13in x 13in. They lay flat.  I used them for our wedding and they were perfect for everything we needed to fit in each bag. There’s a slight shade variation in the group; I’m guessing some were cut from a different bolt of fabric.  They are also a little wrinkled from storage and will probably be wrinkled from shipping. I have three additional ones, but they somehow got something on them (likely toddler related). If needed, I can try to wash it out and send those as well.
    • I’m getting married in six months to my foreign girlfriend. I was advised by a friend that one of the things I need to do before saying I do is to get a prenuptial agreement. Basically it’s supposed to protect my assets and properties in case my relationship with my future wife goes down the drain. I don’t know though if this is an acceptable practice when marrying Kiev ladies. I don’t want to do it if it would be insulting on her end. I need advice on this. Please help me.
    • So we are currently looking for an all inclusive resort for the wedding. We have 60 guests and found all the Dreams resorts as options and all of them gave us a quote and discounted price since it’s off season etc. Resorts in Punta Canta gave us a reasonable price, Dominicus gave us a really good deal then La Romana Resort and Spa gave us their regular price and so hard to negotiate. Will someone tell us how special is this resort that they won’t give us a good discount when all my guests are staying in their resort for 5-8 days. We are bringing $$$ in their resort and not give us a discount?  What is so special with this resort?  Can somebody recommend a beautiful resort?
