  1. I think it's over the top, in a great way, and it will look awesome on the beach!!! Seriously, when you pick a dress that you love (it sounds like you are still on the fence) it will not matter where you are wearing it. I bought my dress with the intention of wearing it to a traditional Catholic cathedral wedding, but we've changed our minds about the wedding, yet I am still keeping my dress, veil and all!
  2. I liked all three (maybe because my top choices were very similar to yours!), but I really thought #3 was fantastic on you. I think it flatters you and it's modern, and I love the ruffle bottom and sweetheart neckline.
  3. I would like to know the answer to this as well. I'm planning to have my hair done at the Colonial and was wondering what other brides have paid for an updo?
  4. Hi Hatfiehm, Every TA I spoke with recommended this resort among their top 3 for DW's. My mother had also travelled to the resort last year, she has been to alot of resorts, and this was one of the few she said she would return to. They do so many weddings that I figured it would take alot of the stress off me for planning and that was exactly what I was looking for.
  5. That's probably a smart idea. Not sure I want to be wearing my ring down south with all the sunscreen, sand, etc. Must go have a look on ebay for a fake version of my ring.
  6. Really?! That is awesome! I knew that there were at least 15 that were NOT the one, but I had trouble deciding between 2-3 choices. Ultimately only one made me really feel like a bride so that's the one I went with.
  7. Also, love the ankley from etsy and the brochure you made! So many things I would like to copy from your planning thread. Thanks for sharing.
  8. I also love those starfish earrings! Would love to know where you got them, they're awesome!!!!
  9. I tried on between 20 and 30. The dress I picked was nothing like I expected. I was planning a traditional wedding when I bought my dress so the types I tried on are nothing like I would have had I known I would be having a DW. I'm still planning on wearing my original dress.
  10. Oryx, are you from Ontario? I looked up "record of solemnization" and the only information out there pertains to ON. I'm wondering if perhaps it is called something different in the other provinces. I'm from Newfoundland, perhaps there is a different name on it here or something, lol.
  11. That is so terrible that so many of your group were sick. Did you put in a complaint directly with the hotel manager? I think it is important that they know just how many visitors were sick and just how sick they were! Yikes, that is not good for business!!!!
  12. You are absolutely right! When we look back in 20 years time we will remember that we had the wedding of our dreams with 50 of our closest family and friends Thanks Jamieirene!
  13. I won't give you advice because only you know your relationship and all the in and outs of it. You have to decide what is best for you. I know I would have reacted similarly. If my FI said "it's over and I'm moving out." Whether or not he was serious there are intentions behind those words so I completely understand your reaction. Good luck with everything!
  14. Those are so great for a DW! Unfortunately we don't have that store in Newfoundland, Canada, but what a great find.
  15. Rather than having flower centrepieces I saw someone on here who is bringing lumanaries. Which is really smart since you can have them made at home, they lay flat, and when you get there you can put them together with double sided tape. You just need candles. I might be doing that as well. That's of course only if you are interested in doing something besides flowers. I've heard of people buying those real touch flowers maybe that could save you some money but then you would have to travel with the flowers.
  16. Thanks so much for that info! What is a record of solemnization? Is that something they give you after you sign your wedding documents?
  17. Your dress if beautiful! Thanks for posting your planning thread lots of good ideas!
  18. Oh, this is an awesome idea!!!!! I love the magazine idea, that would be awesome for guests. All of my guests are family and they are all from the same small area of our province so with the exception of one or two they all know each other. I might still do it just for fun!!!!
  19. The Majestic Colonial thread is so lengthy I could not find the information I was looking for. I am having a symbolic ceremony. Do I need a wedding certificate or will a valid Canadian wedding license be sufficient? Also, if you want flowers for your cake do you pay extra or is some of that decoration included? Thanks everyone!
  20. Ooops, Don't Fade Away = Mischa Barton
  21. Mischa Barton = The Sixth Sense
  22. I completely understand how you are feeling, I'm sure many destination brides do. I know people think we are 'selfish' but I think it's selfish for people to be upset that you are not having the wedding they want. What was I supposed to do, plan a wedding to please everyone else? Actually, that was what I did for nearly ten months until FI and I decided we had enough called off the traditional wedding and planned the wedding of our dreams. We sent out an email and have a website explaining our decision. We even said within both that we knew this decision meant there would be many people who could not make it and for that we were sorry. As for the gift thing we haven't said anything, where we are from people only give gifts if they attend the wedding. We've been telling anyone who have asked, and are booked to go, that we would rather them put the amount they would have spent on a gift toward their trip.
  23. I hate the glass clinking too. I've seen many twists on the kissing game. Here in Newfoundland, Canada the "moose call" is popular, the song with the word love in it, guests kissing and the couple copying it, donations to a charity of the couples choice ( a loonie, toonie, five dollar bill or whatever) get you a kiss and the couple gives the proceeds to charity. I've seen various forms of the trivia game, also telling a funny story about the bride or groom. All much better than clinking in my opinion, lol.
  24. Thanks for letting me know that. Guess I will send an email to both and hope someone schedules me in for the time that I need. I have 5 or 6 women from my bridal party who want their hair done. I wonder how many they can do at a time.
