  1. Well, I'm a lurker and will probably stay at this level forerver, lol. Honestly, I just often feel like since I'm in the beginning stages of planning who am I to offer suggestions etc. when there has to be someone with more info than me around, ha ha. Not being able to download attachments and such is a pain in the rear end but other than that I'm not sure what benefits you get from reaching the 150 post count!
  2. My first choices, Photophil, his nephew, and Jamie Demitry who also works with them now, are not available. I've emailed Julie Eskins but haven't heard back from her. I've also filled out the contact form on PhotoSounvenir's webpage but haven't heard back. Does anyone have a direct email for them? I really like their style of photos. Also, if anyone has any info about their pricing and could pass that info along it would be greatly appreciated.
  3. I wasn't planning on doing a sand ceremony but after reading this I am starting to feel like I should. The words are so beautiful and it really holds alot of meaning. It's kind of like the unity candle really, same message, but more practical for the beach!!!!
  4. Thank you so much for answering my questions! That's too bad about the steakhouse!!!! Maybe we will just take our ipod down to the beach and ask everyone to follow us and dance down there in the dark or something, lol. I have been looking at that boat option, La Baracaza (I probably just butchered the spelling, lol). It might be one way to combine a private reception and allow us the dancing we want. Maybe even have it on a different evening so I can get the included steakhouse dinner but then a more elaborate reception. Again, thanks for the info! I've been browsing the forum and have been gathering lots of info. It's such a great resource.
  5. Hey Ladies! Love that there are so many Canadian women on here. I am planing a DW in the DR for late August 2011. Most of our guests are coming from Newfoundland!
  6. There hasn't been a reply to this thread in a while. But first I was hesitant about doing the legal stuff here in Canada first however I heard someone explain it to me this way. We are getting married in the Domincan Republic and at our particular resort most couples who end up doing the civic ceremony end up having the judge come earlier in the day to sign the papers and then the wedding coordinator does the ceremony anyway. Or the judge comes, but he speaks spanish and the wedding coordinator translates and thus is still doing the ceremony. So, I figure at least this way I save money, and I can write my own ceremony. However, we are not telling ANYONE about the legal stuff before hand. When people ask about having everything translated we are just saying "yes, we are getting all that taken care of" and if they are keeners who know all about this stuff, I will lie and say yes we have everything sent to WEDO in the states and then to the embassy. I am not against fibbing if it keeps people happy, ha ha ha!
  7. Hi, Lots of great tips for my symbolic ceremony. I was wondering if you might be able to past the message from Pastor York into a message, for some reason I am unable to download it. Beautiful ideas here!
  8. Hi All! I'm a newbie!!! Getting married the week of August 26-Sept.02 I will be having the free steakhouse meal for the group. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for how to make the first dances happen? Do you think for a large tip the staff would turn down their music and let us play our ipod/docking station for a few songs and speeches? lol We want to keep the prices VERY LOW. If anyone has a suggestion for a small reception following dinner, i.e a place where we could do a few speeches and have a few dances, that wouldn't cost much I would love to hear about it. We do not want a whole evening reception. We plan to drink and party with the whole resort and I'm sure the disco and other bars will serve that purpose. Also, how is the volume for the sound system on the beach? Will my guests be able to hear what is happening with all the wind and waves? And, I'm sure this sounds trivial but will someone come get me in my room when it's time to head to the beach and get married? Or do I have to hide behind a bush or something? Thanks everyone for any suggestions you have to offer.
