On the other hand I have no dress, and SVD's SHOULD be sent out by next week.

We will also be there the same time as a few of you as we have our date booked for May 7, 2011. I am thinking we are going to do a 3pm as to not run out of sunlight. We are bringing our own photographers as well but they told us to say that they were our relatives just to be safe so there wasn't any surprises once we got there. I have my dress, the bridesmaids dresses are ordered, we have the guys pants and shoes, just have to find their shirts. Our colors are tangerine and fuschia. Is anyone having something besides the CD playing during the ceremony? What about chair decorations? Are you renting those things down there or are you buying them and shipping them down? We haven't gotten our package prices for accomodations and airfare yet as our travel agent said the airfare wasn't available yet?! Yay another GBP bride! Welcome! There's actually 3 of us the first week in May now. Crazy! There are actually 2 brides that have pretty good reviews on the site that I found quite helpful. As for scouring the internet, I couldn't find much. I wish I could find some pictures or something just to get ideas (if any of you have plz share? *smiles*). We will be having the steel drum band (FI really wants them) playing, and we're hiring a photographer (from Sungold) to shoot our wedding. As for chair decorations, I'll be bringing my own down I'm pretty sure. They're so cheap to buy. I'm a little behind you though when it comes to other things... no garments purchased. I'm going dress shopping on July 17th We've gotten 2 prices quotes and we finally found a travel agent that we like and she should have our final quote to us by tomorrow or Monday at the latest. Flights ARE available. We'll probably be flying through Air Canada Vacations and are hoping to get a rate somewhere near our initial quote of 1200 per person.
  4. I have the Pearl and I love it. I wish I would've gotten the Curve though...
  5. Don't worry, you still have tons of time! Welcome, and good luck picking your resort (When you do, be sure to check out the May 2011 brides, we have a pretty large group )
  6. 4pm. Gives us enough time to relax and get ready during the day and not feel rushed, plus it's cooled down a bit. We're doing dinner at either 6:30 or 7:00 to allow for enough time for photos.
  7. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Even though I have all my grandparents, I have a very special connection with my grandpa (my mom's dad). He's actually going to be the one who's walking me down the aisle because he's more of a father figure to me than my dad ever was. When I was in my first year of university he suddenly had a stroke. I got the phone call and literally ran 2km to my BF's house to get his car and get over there. I spent the next few months by his side and almost failed every class I was in but didn't care. It was so sudden as well because he's an extremely young, healthy man, eats well, keeps busy, and had absolutely no health problems. Today - almost 6 years later - he's still in a wheelchair, half paralyzed, but alive, and I thank God everyday that I still have him in my life. He made it through an intense stroke that the doctor's gave him a less than 25% survival rate. Sorry for my rambling... I guess it just proves how important grandparents can be in our lives. I'm so sorry you won't have your Papa, but I'm sure he'll be looking down from heaven and smiling.

  9. Thank goodness your fiance found the site. I've found it so helpful (and addicting) Congrats on your engagement. Riveria Maya is beautiful.
  10. I vacationed at this resort last June with my FI (BF at the time) and some of our friends. We ADORED it. We saw one wedding happen while we were there and it was just beautiful. One of the best things about the resort is the connection to Xcaret Park. You HAVE to visit it, it's gorgeous.
  11. I'm glad that it all worked out in the end. Really, it may be for the better, right? <3

Shipping from the US gets soooo expensive.

Maybe I'm the cheapest bride ever, but we're going to go with the photographer at the resort. if the pictures suck, I'm sure that our guests will have taken some nice ones. And my fiances brother is a photographer, so I KNOW they will take nice pics. I just don't want to spend $2400 on a photographer, considering the pics aren't that important to me. I want a few nice ones, but thats it, and I will probably only get one framed. I'm not a big picture girl, the memories will be more important to me. And maybe I'm being too optimistic here, but we'll look so good all dressed up I can't imagine the pictures are going to be awful. But now that I"m seeing everyone else is getting profesional ones, its making me nervous. Planning a destination wedding is easy, but a bit stressful beacuse it doesn't seem like you have too much control over very much. And the wedding planner is super bad for getting back to me. It took me a month to finally set the date, and I sent her the forms with my credit card information a month ago and I still haven't been charged. Sorry for the rant! It's all about figuring out what's most important to you. For me, photography is right up there. I'd rather spend less on my dress and not have tons of flowers, so I have extra money there. My mom even asked me why I was willing to spend so much of my budget on photography, but I really want to have the whole day captured so I have that for the rest of my life. I've actually been really lucky with Beverly. At first it took her two weeks to get back to me, but after that inital e-mail it hasn't taken her more than 2 days to get back to me with every silly little question I have. I love that we have a day booked and we don't have to put down a deposit immediately.
  14. Gorgeous dress! A co-worker of mine who's getting married next year bought the exact same one.

  18. hurricane during wedding :: the most interesting photographs ever (weird, I know, haha)
  19. oh, and sorry, our estimated budget it 15,000. BUT we're splurging on a photographer and also to have a private reception... it would be VERY do-able to have under 10,000 at Gran Bahia and make it work
  20. Quote: Originally Posted by luckiestdestiny Thanks so much for your response. Is there a way that you could tell me an estimate of your budget for bahia and for how many people? Ours is a small wedding of probably 20 guests...and we have a rather small budget (my fiance is a medical student, next year he'll be graduating but as a resident doctor pay is still low for a few years and I am a master's student. We don't have relatives who are giving us a wedding, we are doing it ourselves). If you'd like to PM your e-mail address I can forward you all the information about wedding packages that I've gotten? The packages are really reasonable including most everything you need, (including a reception, food, etc). The cheapest is 1100 and the most expensive is 1500 if I'm not mistaken?
  21. This is such a tough situation to deal with... Honestly, I agree with the other girls that it's not your place to send the e-mail. If she doesn't like you already it's best not to fuel the fire and start your relationship off with your future in-laws on a sour note. Hopefully your FI can talk to them and find out what the real issue is. I mean, if they really don't want to come because they don't like you, then let it be. That's so sad and petty.

  23. I'm getting married at Gran Bahia Principe next May We choose it because we heard great reviews from people we know who had been there, and also because it's a relatively new resort (a tad less expensive) that doesn't do a lot of weddings, so it felt less like a "wedding factory". My travel agent also told us it was her favorite resort in Jamaica because it had a luxury feel, but was still lively and fun. Good luck with your picking All are beautiful places. There are a few great reviews of Gran Bahia Principe on this forum as well by a few ladies who've gotten married there.
  24. I'm so glad I found this! We're booked with these exact same photographers for May 2 / 2011 !! We wanted to go with Paula & Damian, but by going with their associates we are able to get a TTD out of it as well, which I really wanted. Is there any way I can see any of your pictures? I'd love to get some ideas of what we're in for.
