Manitoba / Winnipeg girls - Post Social information here!
tris replied to Joss's topic in Wedding Music & Entertainment
Yay I found a thread for us Manitoban girls and our socials! ! It's assumed among my group of friends & family that we have a social and I honestly think it's doubly awesome because we won't get to have everyone with us in Jamaica for our wedding. So we get to celebrate and have a *few* drinks with everyone back here. Our wedding social is September 18th at the Dakota Community Center. We would've had it closer to the wedding but one of my best friends (not to mention BM) is leaving for Australia and it's really important to me that she be there. Either way, I'm a "plan-a-holic" so I'm super excited to have ANOTHER thing to plan on top of wedding. Right now we've got a nice pile starting of social prizes, tickets done, and keeping our eyes open for great deals -

Is there anything else you girls know that I am missing...lol Oh - an we applied for our long form birth certificates which you need to get married in Jamaica and they only took like a month to come in. We did it early as we thought it would take forever...seems like its a good time to do it now if you havent already! Thanks for reminding me! That seems like one of those things people forget -

Before I decided on Jamaica, not Mexico (because of legalities, it's so much less paperwork, etc to get married in Jamaica), Dreams Tulum was our first choice. I even was in contact with the wedding planner there and she's great. I've read many reviews from girls here who have gotten married there and it was just beautiful. I haven't looked in to all of the resorts you have listed, but that's my two cents . It may be helpful for you to e-mail your "wedding plan" to your top few resorts and see what kind of response you get from the planners? Happy picking!

I forgot to post, but if any of you ladies are having trouble with colours, check out this great site: The Perfect Palette Even if you have your colours picked out, it's still really neat. -

Turquoise and Latte. I'm also using a Pomegrante color as my accents (flowers, etc). I love these colours together. -

My wedding is May 2011 and our colours are Turquoise & Latte. I'd love to buy approx 30 sashes off of someone -
Wedding Day: How important is the day of the week?
tris replied to Bride2Be21's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
We're getting married on a Monday. I love that it doesn't really matter with a DW. We're flying out on a Wednesday to save costs, and we'll marry on the following Monday then leave 2 days later. Exactly like we wanted it. Plus, I assume a Monday won't be as popular with other brides and we're hoping to be the only wedding that day. -
Welcome to the forum! I started planning approx a year before, right after we got engaged.

I have 3 ladies and FI has only 2 guys. His GM is just going to have to walk down the isle with 2 ladies . Either way, that really sucks that he has no one. But I guess you guys can just be surrounded by your BM's in the pictures, right? I mean, no one said that they always have to be standing on just your side? -
I'm a May bride in Jamaica too ! (May 2nd, Gran Bahia Principe) Congrats on finalizing the day! It feels so good, doesn't it?

We will both be 26 when we get married. Live YOUR life, have fun, and as long as you feel he is THE ONE, I say go for it and congrats! FI and I have been together since we were 16 as well. We will be 25/26 when we get married, and will have been together for over 9 years. <3 Although I may have always thought we'd get married, I'm glad we waited, matured and decided that we were still right for one another.

Kate - Sungold is actually based down in Jamaica so we won't be able to meet with them before hand. It kind of sucks, but means we don't have to worry about bringing someone down with us. It's $2400 for everything, and we get a disc of all our images after We are planning on doing OOT bags, but we haven't really started yet. I'm thinking near the end of summer there will be A LOT of deals for summerish stuff to take advantage of. I'm also a graphic designer so I'm doing a lot of the print stuff myself, which saves us a lot of money. Mekanabr - Yah, one of the big reason we went with them was because they allowed outside photographers! It's a huge deal to me and I don't want to leave it to someone THEY choose and then overcharges us for poor pictures. I have an idea about my dress but that's about it. I've tried 2 on with my sister just for fun and loved one... I'll probably end up going back to it, but we'll see. Oh and for time, we're getting married at 4. Late enough for it to cool down a bit and early enough so supper doesn't run too late. -

We've got a lot of things started, which is good. We actually just booked our photographer today! YAY! We're going with Sungold and we're really excited. Photography is one of the things I'm willing to splurge on and we'll be paying $2400 for 8 hours, all our own images, plus a trash the dress the next day. We're using one of their associates though, we'd love to use them but their rate is an additional $1000. Last night we finally settled on colours as well. We're going with Aqua & Latte with a Pomegrante (Pinky-Red) colour as accents. It's what I initially was going for and Kai finally agreed. Yay! Otherwise, right now we're finishing up our guest list and starting to collect addresses. -
Congrats! I got engaged after 8 years & we were originally planning a Mayan Riveria wedding but switched over to Jamaica because of less legalities and paperwork Happy Planning and welcome! -Tris

Oh wow, you're so much further along than I am! We got a group rate from itravel2000 but it was only good for 3 days. Either way, it gave us an idea of around what it would cost (approx $1200 from Winnipeg). We're sending out our Save The Date's in probably August. From my research for DD's Save the Dates are supposed to be sent out 6-8 months before and formal invites 2-4 months. August would be 9 months before, but I'd rather give them some time. I didn't know there was curtains put up. Hmm... Maybe we will reconsider. Wedding colors are picked out by me, too bad my fiance doesn't agree... not to mention isn't offering any other options, so we've kind of hit a dead end. I'm a graphic designer so you'd think he'd trust me? Haha. What are yours? No dress yet. Sometime later this month probably Right now we're spending a lot of time planning our wedding social in September. It's kind of a Manitoba tradition and it works well considering not all of our friends will be able to attend the wedding. PLUS one of my bridesmaids is moving to Australia a few days after
