Welcome and congratulations Jen! I'm also getting married at ROR but in November. It took me a bit of time at first to learn how to search, but there is so much info on this forum about ROR and previous ROR brides. As a very helpful member suggested when I first joined, spend a night with a glass of wine just reading to your heart's content. I guarantee you will find almost all the info you are looking for. Happy planning!

I think you've received some great advice already, I just wanted to confirm that checking many travel agents and finding one that not only gives you great pricing but also great service is key. I probably sound like a broken record as I have bitched about this before, but I booked with a travel agent I didn't like because she gave us a bit better price, and cost was a major factor for my guests. But I'm paying for this now as I'm really unhappy with the service I've received, but once the deposits are placed I really didn't have any recourse. I hope you can learn from my mistake! Find a travel agent that specializes in destination weddings and save your sanity - for me doing the research, getting the pricing and making the booking were the hardest part of the whole process. Good luck!!!

Wow this is news to me - I just assumed that all AI packages included airport transfers! I know my package with Sunquest includes this, but I'm wondering about the bus that is provided. What kind of bus is it? Does it have air conditioning? (FI is really worried about this!) 2 - 2 1/2 hours on a bus is a pretty long time, so if the bus is really bad I'm thinking it might be worth it to spend the money on private transfers. For any brides that had the transfers included in their package, can you shed any light on this for me? Is it worth spending money on something we are already getting for free? I am trying to look for places I can cut some costs, and am not convinced this would be a good place to spend the extra $$. I got a quote from Lee's Tours for our group and it's not exactly cheap, even though I'm sure they are great from everything I've read from other brides who have used them. Any info anyone has on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help ladies!!!

Thanks so much for your input, I think your hair looked amazing! I will probably do the same and put it up loosely, and if it looks a bit messy then so be it.

Calling all November 2009 Brides!
KristieF replied to beachbride2009's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
Welcome mexicana bride! We're date twins I can't believe it's less than 4 months away now. I'm getting so excited! -
My wedding is less than 4 months away, and I am in the same boat - what hairstyle to choose My main concern is how much wind will there be on the beach? My original plan was it have half up half down, but I don't want it to look like a big disaster after being out in the wind for a bit! Can any previous brides help out here - my ceremony is at the beach gazebo at 4PM, will wind be a major factor? Did it affect your hair? My hair is such a problem on a regular day, I don't want bad pictures as a permanent reminder about my hair issues!

Is anyone else getting married on blind faith?
KristieF replied to Nisi39's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
Another blind faith bride here! I've been to Jamaica before, but it was over 15 years ago and not the same city and FI has never been to Jamaica. Some of the other locations I looked at were too expensive and most of our guests have already been to Mexico (the other location I was interested in), so I was hoping to mix it up a bit and try somewhere new. I spent A LOT of time on tripadvisor before making the final decision though, a site visit just wasn't in our budget because of our timeline and considering that having a DW was supposed to save us money! -
Is anyone else confused about the ROR photo packages
KristieF replied to M9w3h6's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Hi ladies! Here is Michael's email address: [email protected] and the website is best images I think the prices for packages are at the bottom in the download section. Hope this helps! I haven't decided on which package I'm taking yet either, I think it's going to be more than I originally wanted to spend, but I feel like pictures are one of the few places you get what you pay for and it's worth spending extra money. -

OMG - this is almost my exact situation, but I'll see your 9 years and raise you my 15 We also got engaged in January and he really wanted April, but there was no way I was waiting until 2010 to get married! So November it is, for the same reasons you gave. -
This DVD is amazing!!! I bought it to tone up for my wedding also, I've only attempted it once so far because I was in so much pain afterwards I needed days to recover! But now that I'm passed the inital shock I'm going to try and keep it up, because it definitely seems to work. No pain no gain, right ladies

Hi Tanya - congratulations and welcome to the forum! I'm getting married at the Riu Ocho Rios 11/11/09 but I've heard the Riu Montego Bay is very nice also. I think it was price and the reviews on tripadvisor.com that finally made my decision for me. Good luck with your planning, you will find some really helpful information and people here!

I LOVE this idea - thank you so much for sharing!!! I'm not much of a DIY person, but this is one project I definitely have to attempt. -
Hi fellow Calgarians! I'm fairly new to BDW but I'd totally be in for happy hour too, just let me know when and where...

Hors d'oeuvres necessary for 4 pm ceremony??
KristieF replied to jamaica2009bride's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Glad I read this post! I hadn't even considered HD after our 4PM ceremony, but now it sounds like a must do. Now I just need to find the extra $$ from somewhere... -
Steel drum band music - Jamaican Brides
KristieF replied to jk1101's topic in Wedding Music & Entertainment
I also thought a steel drum band would be nice for the ceremony, but my FMIL hates this idea - she thinks it would be better at the reception. To me it's more like nice background music as opposed to party/dancing music like I want for the beach reception. Am I way off base here -
This post is amazing - thanks so much for the tips!!! I was also starting to feel overwhelmed and a bit cheap after seeing and reading about how much others were spending on their weddings. I don't want to go into debt just for one day! I did spend more on my dress than I originally wanted to, but hopefully I can make up for this with some of these tips going forward. Thanks ladies

Beach Reception Vs. Seagrape Reception- RIU Ocho Rios
KristieF replied to Marie's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I'm a bit confused about what to do for our reception also. We are having the semi-private dinner at Mammee Bay, and then I have booked the private beach reception which apparently is held at Seagrape. I've seen pictures of it in other threads, but I'm just not sure if this is the best option. I would switch to private poolside reception, but this has already been booked and I'm not crazy about the disco for a smaller group - we will be a group of 20 people. Will this work for the Seagrape? Where is the bonfire held if you choose to have one? I would want to have some decorations at the reception site but it's basically just an open air bar? I'm so torn about this, maybe I should try to request the private beach gazebo reception instead? But again, will this work with only 20 people? If anyone has any comments to share or pictures of the Seagrape decorated I would love to hear/see them because this reception thing is stressing me out!!! Everyone here seems to have such great ideas, thanks so much for sharing them - you have made me think of things that never would have occurred to me on my own! BDW is a godsend!!!! You ladies rock
