  1. Thanks so much for the link - that suit looks really nice! What is everyone's thoughts on silk? If it's hot, will a tan silk suit breath or just show sweat marks?
  2. I agree with Trance - you have to decide what's more important to you and if they are equally important to you (having parents there/getting married on beach), you might want to reconsider your budget and how you can pay the entire difference for your parents of attending a stateside wedding and what it would cost to go to St. Lucia. I know I don't have all the facts, but given that your parents still have 9 kids at home, it's hard to blame them for the tight reins on their finances - imagine if they had to eventually pay to attend a destination wedding for each of their kids!
  3. I wanted to share this link for disposable underwater cameras by polaroid for $3.95. I think it's a great item to include for a destination wedding since everyone will end up by the pool at some point and can have fun with the cameras. I thought the price was great, given some of the basic disposable wedding cameras can sell for $5. They came in individual boxes and look great, though I can't vouch for how they work yet, but I figured it's a polaroid brand camera, so hopefully they work great too! Waterproof Single Use Polaroid Camera - Preloaded with film.
  4. This is a great thread - I haven't even thought about vows yet, so this really helps!!
  5. Don't redo your programs - that's not your fault and you don't need something to add to your stress with only 3 weeks to go. You are better off! Just focus on the people that are coming and how wonderful it will be to have them there and remember, it's her loss for missing this special trip and time with you.
  6. Congrats and Welcome! You'll find this forum incredibly helpful.
  7. I think having an associate shoot it with an edit from the main guy (for a lower price) is a good option - but that is horrible what you're wedding coordinator did! If you have the time, it won't hurt to shop around for others recommended in the forum too to see if they are available. As for the family drama - I sympathize!! As others said, you can't make everyone happy and it's not your responsibility to pay for ANYONE, so this is particularly unfair. Good luck!!
  8. Congrats - I'm getting married at the Hilton in May! There's no walkway provided by the Hilton on the sand that I know of. If you want a hard surface to walk on, you can rent one from your florist, but those are pricey. I found satin flip flops online, but I'm tall, so I was looking for no heel. I seem to recall more options with wedge flip flops that would work as well.
  9. I am getting married at the end of May and my photographer suggested we start the ceremony at 5 pm for the best light. I think that will give us at least 2 hours of dancing, too, so I'm happy with that start time.
  10. When I ordered my dress, which is an off-white, I asked the designer (who happened to be there for a trunk show) about clashing whites with the groom. I was worried about his white shirt and the designer stated that you are never going to be able to match whites perfectly, not to worry about it and that this should not be a concern. As another poster stated, they are all just different shades of the same color family. So, my half a cent is you'll be gorgeous and it won't look funny at all. Good luck!
  11. Hi Jess - I also considered the Westin, but chose to have my wedding at the Hilton. I haven't been to either, just based upon my research on tripadvisor, etc., I went with the Hilton. I think room rates are fairly comparable. I don't think you can go wrong with the Westin either though.
  12. Hi - I found these playing cards online in the shape of flip flops that I think are adorable and cheap (.59 cents each plus shipping) for OOT bags. Thought I'd share if anyone was interested. Flip Flop Shaped Playing Cards (1 ct) Luau Party Supplies, Decorations, Leis
  13. I am budgeting $25 max per bag and buying stuff for 30 bags. I bought handwoven tote bags for just under $5 each (including shipping) and will bring down monogram labels to attach instead of doing an iron-on or monogrammed bag. I just got my shipment of totes from Welcome to Ailana Kai (a website I found thanks to searching this forum) and I love them!!
  14. Hi and welcome to forum - you will find tons of help here. I chose the Hilton Los Cabos for my wedding and so far I'm very happy with my choice.
  15. Ana - I am confused by it as well. I don't have any basis for thinking that prices are skyrocketing, but I certainly haven't noticed them going down or offering much in the way of incentives when negotiating with vendors. Perhaps they're trying to protect themselves from less bookings by charging more. I think it's just the wedding industry generally - everything is a rip-off, in good times and bad!
  16. Congrats and welcome. You will find lots of helpful info here.
  17. Congratulations and Welcome!
  18. Hi - if you get married at a hotel or AI, usually they will quote you a fee for the legal ceremony if you request one. I was quoted $600 for civil ceremony with judge and $150 for blood tests, so $750 total. I don't need a translator though - using a friend.
  19. Hi - thanks for starting this thread Connie. I would also be interested in people's thoughts on food at the Hilton, including thoughts on appetizers and alcohol packages. It seems like their 2009 options have decreased significantly from 2008.
  20. Count me in as a Cabo bride. May 30, 2009 at the Hilton Los Cabos.
  21. I'm getting married in May 2009 and have the same concerns about flight prices. Most are coming from Chicago. Those with miles and some family members have chosen to book now, but most are waiting as I think prices should go down. It seems to me the days of "the earlier you buy, the cheaper the ticket," are gone. I also regularly check on Tuesdays and Wednesday and for the past month the fares from LA and Chicago to Cabo have remained the same.
  22. I don't know anyone on your list, but I decided on my photographer, Juan Carlos Tapia last week and can tell you what was important to me. I looked at websites and prior wedding albums done by photographers and picked the one that to me made me feel as if I had attended by looking at the pictures. It was important that I get a dvd of all photos in the price and that the phtographer was responsive to my questions. Part of it is a matter of taste, since not everyone likes the same photos and, of course, there is the cost. I ended up going with someone more expensive because I just loved his photos - plus he has many positive reviews here. I also liked Tomas Barron in my research for Cabo photographers. Good luck!
  23. Welcome fellow Hilton Bride - I'm getting married there too!
