  1. Yes, you will be the ultimate bridezilla and will have less friends if you proceed with this idea. It sounds like you're paying for people to be your bridesmaids. Pick people who would do it even if you didn't pay for anything and you won't have to worry about people backing out.
  2. With the background story, I understand why you're upset, why does FI tell you these things? But FMIL's email doesn't sound like she doesn't want to include you in the family or celebrate, it sounds like she doesn't want to plan and host it, which could be for any number of reasons having nothing to do with you - she probably has no idea what it would entail or that you don't care if it's only a casserole get-together. I agree with Carly - host your own AHR for his family.
  3. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks - I'm wearing my hair down (dress looks much better with hair down). My florist says it's not that windy in May in Cabo, so hopefully she's right and it extends to June for you!
  4. I did a lot of research, a lot on this forum to pick the right vendors and decide what I wanted. As far as meal, decorations that's up to each person what's important to them. What are you having trouble with?
  5. I did my STD boarding passes myself. Got cover stock from paper source (Envelopes, Wedding, Invitations, Stationery, Ideas | Paper Source) and had kinkos print them for me because with the thicker paper, it wasn't coming out great on the laser printer. It was only like $20 to print at kinkos and they printed perfectly - though ask them to print one sample first so you can double check that the color ink matches what you picked. I'm not a fan of the rotary cutters but I know others on BDW love them. I used a guillotine paper cutter that worked great. I cut a lot of things for programs and invites, so it was well worth the $60 I spent on it.
  6. I am using her in 3 weeks for my ceremony, so I'll let you know how it goes. She came highly recommended and promptly answered my emails regarding song selections and timing.
  7. There's already a recent thread on this topic http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t29044
  8. I like to hear the non-cancelled stories - thanks for sharing and best of luck. Oh, and congrats!!
  9. I thought I'd start a new thread just for Cabo May/June brides to discuss their concerns and ideas for keeping their wedding in Cabo - I know a bunch of us posted on Almosaseif's thread, but I wanted that one to be for her - so sad that she had to cancel. My wedding is on May 30, 2009 at the Hilton Los Cabos and we leave for Mexico on May 24th. We are just playing the wating game right now, figuring that things should be much clearer in the next week. None of my guests are threatening to cancel or even bothering me - those I have spoke to have been pretty pragmatic and said let's just wait and see and fully expect to be in Cabo at the end of May. At this point we think you can get it anywhere, people are recovering just like with the regular flu and there's no greater chance of getting it in Cabo. It so annoys me that all the statements blanket Mexico when there are only certain areas that have it!! There are still no reported cases of it in Cabo as far as I can find and both my photographer and florist today told me everything is pretty much normal down there for them. My florist, for what it's worth, said she has many confirmed bookings for May and there are no problems. Anyways, just wanted to say we're remaining confident (while stressing inside) that we will be getting married May 30th in CABO in front of all our loved ones. We are not making a back-up plan yet - if it comes to that we'll throw something together with 2 weeks to go in vegas or something, but we don't think that will happen. For those of you getting married in the next 2 weeks, I feel for you and completely understand if you changed plans. For the rest of us, I say stay strong ladies and keep the Cabo dream weddings alive!!
  10. There are some beautiful resorts in vegas that aren't on the strip - you could plan something wonderful there, though I know it won't be the same. But you'll have beautiful weather and everyone you love there and maybe you'll hit a jackpot on your way back to your room! Just trying to make you smile - vegas is my back-up plan too. Hang in there.
  11. I'm so sorry to hear that you had to cancel - I feel so bad for you. My wedding is May 30th, so I have the luxury of waiting a couple more weeks and hoping things shake out. I hope you can come up with an alternative plan quickly or reschedule for a time when you still feel you can get your dream wedding. Again, I'm so sorry.

The media has blown this all out of proportion. Sure it should be casue for concern, take a few extra precations, hell take some Tamiflu with you. We will be there as long as we can get there - I think all of our guests are on board too and no one is worried enough to call the trip off. Back up plan - Vegas baby! Just remember - we will all be just as married 10 years from now as we would be if this all hadn't come about. And will have a great story to tell - Swine Flu ruined/almost ruined/postponed our wedding! Try to keep the humor alive.... It will all be ok... The joke going around is " my something blue" can be my baby blue surgical mask! Actually goes quite well with the decor ... Lauren - I'm with you all the way!! My guests have the same attitude and I even have the same back up plan (not that I've actually looked into it at all). Good luck to all of us!
  13. Mummergirl - my wedding is May 30th and I'm with you. We still have almost a month before we leave and unless this flu gets deadly again, we are hoping that in the next week things will calm down, we'll have a lot more info and can make an educated decision. If it's just the flu and not deadly except for those unforunate souls who got caught in the initial wave, you can catch the flu anywhere and it's already no longer contained. I was talking to a BM about a potential back-up to California or Vegas and she told me someone down the hall from her at work (she's in California) - her son got the swine flu somehow at school - there was a boy who recently came back from Cancun, but the Cancun boy did not have the swine flu. So you can get it anywhere. Unless your wedding is in Mexico city, I would hold tight (and would hope your guests don't panic) and see how things shape up by the end of the week. Luckily, my guests have been reassuring me! Good luck everyone.
  14. I just wanted to share a more positive outlook/experience. My wedding is May 30th and none of my guests (45 people) are panicked or thinking of cancelling. The feeling is everything will be sorted out soon and it has been way overblown, people just need to be careful. At the end of the day it is the flu, no one is going through Mexico City, and there are no reported cases in Cabo. You can catch the flu from anywhere. Anyways, just trying to urge others not to panic... though I completely understand!! Hang in there everyone. For those brides that are getting married this week, though, I feel so bad you have to deal with this - I wish you the very best!!
  15. I went for my first fitting last week and I've never been "felt up" so much in my life as when the seamstress was trying to figure out how to boost me and the dress. Unfortunately, if you want a "boost," the only thing that will do that is something with some sort of underwire, I don't think just cups will do it. The mystere line of bras has a great seamless full bra bustier that boosts you not matter what your size, lays nice and doesn't show under dress. My sister used one for her wedding and it worked great. For myself, I'm either using my sister's bra or seeing if the boning the seamstress is adding to the dress along with double cups works (one cup laying normally and another folded in half at the bottom). Good luck!

I seriously cant believe this I feel for you - the timing couldn't be worse than for those with a wedding in the next 2 weeks. However, a travel warning doesn't mean people can't go, it's just to make people aware. Not to minimize those who have died from this in Mexico, but at the end of the day, people have to remember it's the flu, not the ebola virus and it appears to respond to tamiflu and another flu drug the US has in ample reserve. So even if someone catches it, whether in the US or Mexico, it seems to be treatable as long as you are aware and go to the doctor. Plus, it's already spread to Texas, NY and California - would people cancel trips to those areas too? People just have to be smart about it. Good luck, I hope in the next few days, the news is better that they have a handle on things and your guests don't panic.
  17. Ayita - great idea to combine everything on this topic. I had found the threads months ago advising to bring your receipts and to also put notes in your suitcases in spanish saying items were not for resale, were for a wedding. So many good tips - thanks for thinking of this.
  18. It is AMAZING to me that not only is each state in Mexico different, but that each resort is so incredibly different (and sometimes the coordinators too). We absolutely have to provide our birth certificates (we're getting married in Cabo) and everything I've ever seen about Mexico requires them. I'm so glad that this worked out for you and that you can be legally married as you planned! I hope you hvae no more heart attacks and everyone else goes perfectly.
  19. Hi everyone - thanks to Loni's recommendation, I checked out Baja Raiders and booked them for our fishing trip during our wedding week. They responded to my email immediately and later followed up with a call to confirm reservation. Judy sounded american and was super nice. They required a credit card to hold the reservation but do not charge a deposit unless you are a no show. They also sent a confirming email right after we spoke. I thought their prices were reasonable as compared to others. This is their website: Cabo Boats - Cabo San Lucas Sport Fishing Charters Thanks again for the recommendation Loni!!
  20. We are just like mummer girl. We have a half hour set aside between cocktail hour and dinner for first dances and cake cutting and wedding party intros so we can get pictures of everything before photog leaves - plus I think it's a nice little break between cocktail hour, when we have lots of apps, and dinner. We will have our DJ there, though, to do MC duties.
  21. Thanks Marisse - I will! 39 days until our wedding - I can't believe it! I'll definitely be posting of review of everything in June - hopefully all raves : )
  22. I've thrown a wedding shower every time I was a MOH (3 times) and several times when I wasn't, with a group of people. My MOH (sis) and she threw my bridal shower. That being said, that doesn't mean you have to bear the cost yourself, especially for one so large - I hope the sister in law and who ever is helping you plan is also helping with costs. Often all the bridesmaids chip in together for the shower or the families help a little too (especially if both sides are included in one shower) - I don't think there's a hard and fast rule. The only one I ever read is that the mother of the bride is not supposed to throw the shower.
  23. I am currently using L'oreal's self tanning body wipes and face lotion, which is working really well. It's subtle, so you apply it every day until you reach your desired tan and then apply 1-2 times a week to maintain, so you avoid the possibility of turning orange.
  24. I'm getting married at the end of May and my fiance is golfing. He just made tee times for a group of 4 through our hotel (Hilton) which has a golf concierge and there was a 10% discount. Check your hotel to see if they have the same deal. For planning purposes - he had no trouble getting the tee times he wanted (6 weeks in advance) and he's golfing Cabo Real and the Pamilla Golf Club. Of course if you have a larger group, you may want to book earlier, but I think they have pretty strict cancellation policies - I'll have to check with FI - it's the only thing he's in charge of! We'll let you know what we think of the golf courses when we return, but he was told these are two of the best to play from someone who has golfed there many times. Oh - and golf seems pretty expensive in Cabo (both these places are around $220 a round I think). There was another course my fiance was told to play, but that one was $350 a round! Thankfully, he nixed it.
