  1. I hadn't even thought about chairs. Thanks for the info! Questions on the reception terrace: How was the lighting at night? Is it pretty dim or bright? Do do you recommend more light? From the pictures on the resort, it looks like they have small lamps on the posts, so it may be on the dim side? I am big on lighting (love candles) and was planning on having candles on the tables but would also like to hang paper lanterns w/ LED lights from the roof. Not sure if that is even possible b/c I haven't asked Daniela about it yet. Has anyone inquired about this? Anyway, if you had the chance to sneak a peek at the terrace at night please let me know These are really cute 14" Round Patterned Paper Lanterns Something like this would be fun http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t15472 (pic on bottom) Colorful Paper Lanterns - SHOP BY COLOR How windy is it outside?
  2. LOL wow... are they planning on saving her head for the 1 year anniversary or something? Too funny : )
  3. Jackie, your pictures captured so many beautiful moments I absolutely love your hair, dress and flowers! So beachy and elegant!
  4. Hands down the most amazing hair dryer! My hair stylist uses it at her salon and it's just amazing: light, shiny, and smooth hair every time. I have long straight thick hair and not a whole lot of time and patience to style it everyday. So, when my old regular dryer broke I decided to splurge on this dryer and it is well worth it! A tiny bit of glossing serum through the hair and 5 minutes later, I feel like I just walked out of the salon! There are three heat settings at two speeds. I set it on medium heat and high speed and it was perfect. You don't feel like your scorching your hair with all the heat! No straightening or anything needed afterward! The FI thinks is funny that I'm writing a review for my "forum friends" but WOW! I am so in love with this lifesaver of a blowdryer that I just had to share The price is ridiculous but worth it (at least that's what I tell myself...). Ulta is an authorized seller (to get the 4 year warranty) so I ordered it online for 20% off w/ the promo code. Not sure how it works on hair of other textures and lengths though but I absolutely love it. If you're looking for a new dryer I hope you find this helpful! Here are details from Sephora: Sephora: T3 Bespoke Labs Evolution Dryer: Blow Dryers & Irons
  5. Welcome and best wishes on finding a resort! Let me know if I can help. It's the most difficult part of planning a wedding imo.
  6. Good post idea. I am scared of getting my makeup done by someone due to the fear of looking like a clown! I am thinking of either booking a session w/ a makeup artist here to pick out colors, products and learn how to apply it -- or I could take my chances! Maybe I'll bring specific colors I want for the artist in Mexico? Is anyone doing their own makeup? What are you ladies doing?
  7. Great pictures, Elizabeth! I love the one of the wedding party standing among the rocks looking so relaxed and happy. So timeless!
  8. I like Beck's idea of asking her to wear it to the rehearsal dinner or welcome party. That way, she can still wear the outfit. If you live closeby, maybe you can suggest a fun mother/daughter shopping trip to find a new outfit or maybe send her some pictures/links via email? There are so many beautiful colors and styles of clothing out there I am sure she'll find something!
  9. Have you visited Used wedding dresses. New, sample & used designer gowns. Buy & sell Best wishes on finding your dress!
  10. Wow, you ladies are pretty awesome w/ your workouts! I cancelled my gym membership a few months ago because I only went a couple times during the week and figured I could use the one at work or in the apt. Bad idea! Since then, I haven't gone at all! I miss those spin and yoga classes. My avoidance of the gym is in part due to the air conditioning. Not sure if that's weird, but I get cold easily and hate the air blasting even if I'm really hot. Fans for a breeze would be nice though! When I lived in Austin, I loved exercising outdoors in the dry heat! Now that I'm in DC the humidity is GROSS! I hate summertime so much now. Also, we recently got a Corgi puppy so that's pretty time consuming. Anyway, no more excuses-- I obviously have made up so many...lol! I am going to the gym today. Goal: Do a little something everyday and focus on the arms and booty! Reading your posts have motivated me!
  11. Thanks for all of your input. We found a pattern that we really like so we went ahead and registered Bed Bath & Beyond Product
  12. I'm planning using Wedding Paper Divas too. Their designs are cute and the invites are so reasonably priced I sent my STDs as soon as I had the date, location, travel agent info and the website up. I am not sure when to send the invite or the date by which they should RSVP. 2 months before the wedding? 1 month? 3 months before? I think my invites will be very basic w/ just the ceremony info. Like many of you ladies, I plan on using the website or email for RSVPs. Is this tacky? For the family members who don't use email, I'll know from my parents anyway. For confirmed guests, I plan on mailing confirmed guests a more detailed letter w/ info on the welcome party, sights to see, luggage tags, etc. Ideally, it would be nice to know who plans on attending asap for planning purposes. We both have big families so our budget for decorations, cake, etc. It can be either really low or high!
  13. I'm so glad you and Terry are okay! Thank you for sharing this important info.
  14. For dresses, try Hannelore's in Old Town Alexandria. I was there a few weeks ago and they have a bunch of dresses for 50% off. It's been a while since the sample sale but still many options!
  15. Hi ladies, I have a bridesmaid dress that I'd like to sell. Do you know of any good sites similar to preownedweddingdresses.com but for bridesmaids? I thought about Amazon and ebay, but it seems like such a hassle and Craigslist seems like a long shot... In case anyone is interested: Aria Bridesmaid Dress Style 160 Size O Petite Strapless Knee-length A-line Duchess Satin Celadon Originally $160 Resell $85 Desc160KA The dress has been dry cleaned. The only problem is that one of the small green thread loops for the sash fell off. It should be easy to fix though. I wore the sash without the loop and it was fine b/c the other side has a loop. Otherwise, the dress is like new. Thanks!
  16. Great post topic! Check out this site Wedding Songs A few ideas: Processional - Family and Wedding Party Days Like this (Van Morrison) Perhaps? Processional - Bride When You Say Nothing at All - Allison Krauss & Union Station (Instrumental version somewhere out there) *Sweet and romantic! I love how the lyrics of this song captures the emotions of the bride and groom at first sight when the bride is walking down the aisle. It's amazing How you can speak Right to my heart Without saying a word, You can light up the dark Try as I may I could never explain What I hear when You don't say a thing The smile on your face Lets me know That you need me There's a truth In your eyes Saying you'll never leave me The touch of your hand says You'll catch me Whenever I fall You say it best When you say Nothing at all I'm going to cry... I can't wait to marry my honey! Okay enough mushyness for now! A guitar version: When You Say Nothing At All - Video Recessional Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours - Stevie Wonder I love how upbeat this song is and just seals the deal! Accidentally in Love - Counting Crows Another fun song about love! The FI and I love this song because we were good friends who fell in love without realizing it (although everyone else knew)! Finally, I know many of us are beach brides, but for the forrest/garden autumn brides out there, I think this song is so pretty: "The End of August" by Yanni. Yes, Yanni. His songs on my iPod were from a friend, I swear If you can look past that ridiculous hair, it's a beautiful song! Hope this helps and good luck!
  17. April, you and your family are in my thoughts. I am so sorry to hear about your father. Your memorial ideas sounds beautiful. I am so glad that you and the FI are getting married in the way that makes you the happiest. In the end, you and your husband-to-be will remember and cherish your wedding day more than anyone. For those who are truly upset because they can't afford to go or find the time, there are so many other moments and events in life to be shared! You guys sound like such nice people and have been more than accomodating to everyone. It seems some people forget that the wedding is a special day for the couple, and their inconveniences, such as rescheduling a few meetings and flights, are minor compared to the importance of the momentous day. Hopefully, we can help to make this an exciting and fun process for you because we all are excited about *your* special day! Hang in there
  18. The FI is an amazing cook though! He makes the meals and I do the dishes. Perfect!
  19. I am not sure if I want to register for fine china. They are certainly beautiful and I am a believer that ambiance is a major contributor to a meal, but I just don't think we'd use them -- at least in the near future anyway. It seems like there are other items that may be more useful right now but I always hear that fine china is more of an investment. The FI and I like Lenox's "Columbus Circle" and Vera Wang's "Ivory Trellis." Thoughts? PS I love kitchenware esp the Martha Stewart line! However, I don't really cook and only bake occasionally! So, in addition to the traditional kitchen items found in a registry, I will probably need to register a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and restaurant gift certificates!
