We had tables with chairs but only enough for 1/2 the group so people had to stand and mingle. No kids except my 11 year old sister. Pics to come, currently being burned and sent to me! PS We had a fantastic night, and even though I wasn't excited leading up to it, I'm glad we did it.
  2. We got engaged Dec 2007 and our engagement party was July 2008. As long as it's before the wedding and the bridal shower I think you're safe!

They are NOT something i would pick, but but love the idea of having all the dresses in our family keep going into the chest That is a very sweet family tradition! I wish I knew what my grandmother did with her dress... My experience with my mom's dress was after I got engaged, we decided to is that it came from her first marriage (to my father) and when she pulled it out of the chest, the lace was all yellowed and crispy plus she was about 20lbs lighter than me when she was married so it didn;t do up...and it had long-sleeves so basically it was kind of a joke to be honest. I mentioned it to DH last night and he was like " what do you mean you want to sell it...don't you want to keep it for our daughter to see?"...he was so sentimental (totally unlike him) that I think I'm leaning towards that now....
  4. I wear the band first, E ring on top and I hope to get a matching band to place on top on our 1 year...do what works for you!
  5. Hey ladies!! Now that the wedding, TTD and AHR are done, I'm trying to decide what to do with my wedding dress....Part of me wants to have it cleaned and then sell it...part of me wants to donate it to a less fortunate bride...I've also heard of people redesigning their dress into a cocktail dress and having the train made into a christening gown....Tell me what you did/are doing and help me decide!
  6. My experience with Westjet was that the airline was very accommodating with the dress, trying to find a space for it so it didn't get crushed, plus we each had a carry-on. I think that airlines are getting pretty familiar with brides flying south with this extra...our flight had 3 brides total! Follow-up with your TA or the airline for more info to be sure, but I would be surprised if it counted.
  7. I had real hair clip-ins for my wedding and gave me the volume I needed. My hair is long, and looks thick until you touch it and realize it is actually pretty thin. So my BM/hairstylis bought them for me at wholesale and I used them the day of. She used "Dust it" by Schwartzkof (sp?) and she calls it "back-combing in a bottle" to help them stay in all night. They were fantastic! I used them on my own to do my hair for the AHR this weekend and my girlfriend help fix my hair and had no idea I had a panel in. I say go for the clip-ins and then you can re-use them and take them out and all that good stuff.
  8. Congrats Rebecca! Your DIY stuff was a huge inspiration and your talent was so obviouse....I'm so happy for you to take it to the next level with your business! Congrats again!

  10. My favorite drink comes from a restaurant in my city and the drink is called a Banana Baileys Colada. Now DH and I make them at home cause we love them soooo much! Pina Colada mix, a banana, Baileys, and Malibu Rum. Blend it and then drizzle a little granadine on top and voila! Fantabulous! mmmmmm!!!!!

  12. I feel like I finally hit the last leg of the race in the wedding planning process. I did all of the planning for the wedding myself, and the AHR was my mom's baby, with a little help from me. Details of the Wedding: Date : January 28th, 2009 Where: Grand Palladium Bavaro, Punta Cana, DR Number of Guests: 55 Months of planning: 13 Details of the AHR: Date: April 11th, 2009 Where: Nepean Sailing Club, Ottawa, ON Number of guests: 100 Months of Planning: 1.5 When we sent out our invites, we let everyone kno that we would be having an AHR upon our return. Then the number of guests for the wedding went from 20 to 55 and we were shocked! Needless to say, I wasn't that into planning a second wedding and put it in my moms hands b/c she really wanted this to happen. I told her I would help her, but the cost and the stress had to be all her, otherwise, we weren't interested in having one. Well here I am the day before and I am excited now! The style of the AHR is a cocktail reception starting at 7:30. We are providing some wine, punch, and hot hors d'oevres (sp?) and DH and I will be doing a quick speech to thank everyone who came to the wedding and to the AHR. We will also have our wedding video and slideshow playing. We have a DJ, and at 9pm the lights go down and the dancing begins. It will go until people leave or until 1am, whatever comes first. I made cupcakes from scratch (Thanks Martha Stewart!) and chocolates. We will be serving food later on in the form of sandwich /cheese platters. I will be wearing my dress, but none of my BMs will be there b/c they are scattered across the country, so the GMs are not wearing their clothes from the wedding. I'm looking forward to it, but also looking forward to it being over so we can focus on non-wedding related activities!! I'll let you know how it goes!!
  13. Yeah!! Congrats Ana! You look positively glowing ! Can't wait for the rest!
  14. Congratulations fellow Ottawa bride! I was also married in the DR and it was perfect! Who are you booking with? Happy planning!

So in order to burn that one lb of fat, you have to have an energy deficit of 3500 calories. Healthy weight loss is 1-2lbs of fat a week and you if you are exercising and eating enough to fuel your metabolism, but not eating too much of the bad stuff, you should be able to see results within a week....a deficit of 500-1000 cals a day from a combo of exercise and diet. If you aren't seeing the results you're hoping for, try eliminating as much of the processed foods from your diet (eat clean) and go back to basics. Whole grains, veggies, fruits, lean meats like fish and chicken and lot of water. Limit or eliminate your caffein intake too. Otherwise, stay with it b/c if you being honest with yourself by not cheating and you are making health choices, you are on the right path...Good luck!

  17. We stayed two weeks at the same resort - first week with 50 people, 2nd week with 10 stragglers. Originally we were going to switch resort, but finances dictated otherwise. So out honeymoon wasn't terribly romantic, although we had our moments. Mostly days spent with the fam, evenings spent alone for dinner, watching live music etc. We are planning a 'real' honeymoon for our anniversary next January.
  18. Whooo! Good news update! So the third option that I thought it could have been, turned out to be the winner. I have this condition that makes it seem that I have an UTI or a "contaminated sample" when they test my urine. Basically, I have the UTI bacteria in my bladder all the time, but I am totally symptom free - so basically, I have never had the pleasure (pain) of those darn UTI's that all the girls are talking about - I know its a blessing! Anyways, a few years back, we discovered it after my MD put me on two rounds of antibiotics and it didn't resolve, so she followed up with a urologist, we did some testing, banda bing, banda bang....condition discovered. So on Friday, she asks me how my bladder infections are going? I remind her that I am still asymptomatic and so nothing to report...she looks at me kind of strange and goes on with the next question. I was wondering if she didn't look back far enough in my file to see the history of the testing etc. Well I talked to the nurse this morning, she asks if I feel any symptoms of a UTI and I feel a huge relief b/c at least now I know its nothing. Turns out the test came back "contaminated" and the MD wanted me to come in to re-test and I explained to the nurse the history and that I don't have symptoms and that I would rather not come in to re-test considering the history but to call me back if they need me to. Huge relief! I think I was just worried that we were going to have a surprise baby blessing, b/c there is something in the water at work and three people have announced they are expecting in the last month. Plus, being a newleywed, everyone wants to know when we will start having kids and joking about me being pregnant....so I think that DH and I couldn't help but wonder if that was the reason for the call. We want to have children, but not yet, so that would have been quite the surprise. Anyways, thanks for all the support girls! I think this forum is amazing for all the calming words when you need support! Fantastic ladies you all are!
  19. Thanks ladies! I'm just really impatient, so having to wait overnight is awful....I really hope I don't have to wait to go in to see the MD to find out what's going on. I'll probably be on the phone bright and early tomorrow morning to find out what the call is all about. The nurse just had such a grave tone in the message...I'll be sure to update when I find out. Thanks again ladies!
  20. My DH and I seem to be quite a bit different from the rest of you ladies....my hubby and I loop each other in on almost every purchase out of the ordinary...ie. other than groceries, bills etc. We have one joint account that we use for everything, and b/c we spent 2008 saving for the wedding and we bought our first home, there wasn't much left over for splurging. We are now in the habit that if one of us plans to spend money on shopping, going away, etc we pass it by each other. We come to an agreement on what we can afford/are willing to spend and then the money is spent. We keep each other accountable as well...no impulse shopping for me, no surprise TV purchases for him. It may sound like we are overly involved in what we spend, but on the other hand we never fight about money b/c there are absolutely no surprises. I should point out that my DH is a financial service rep at a bank and I check our accounts daily as well as pay our bills so both of us our very involved in the finances. I'm not sure if putting some of the responsibility back on your FI would open his eyes to the reality of his spending, but sharing the responsibilty of paying the bills may be a start....
  21. Mmmm Cadbury mini eggs at Easter are my absolute faves!
  22. I walked down the aisle to the musical trio upgrade provided by the resort - two guitars and a cheese-grater played with a pink afro-pick! Yes, didn't realize that until I saw the pics after the wedding....the music was really upbeat, and not what I expected, but my guests loved them!
  23. Yep Canadian brides love TTD and BD sessions too! I did both and my FSIL is planning a TTD after her Toronto wedding summer 2010. Its growing!
