  1. I also just took a big risk and ordered 3 bikinis from VS. I'm hoping they look good. The scary thing is that alot of them are on backorder and I'm receiving my order in 3 seperate shipments, with my last order due a couple of weeks before we leave for Mexico. I'm praying it will look good and that the earlier pieces that come in will give me a better indication of VS fit overall.
  2. We are doing traditional vows but we also wrote our own. We checked out this website (warning alot of it is cheesy) Welcome | 365vows.com and pulled out the things we wanted to express. Instead of both of us repeating the same thing, he will say one verse, I will say the second and we will alternate back and forth. We are also doing the hand and sand ceremony.
  3. I like both of them. But I'm kinda partial to dress #2. That being said, lately I've been loving the look/style of those dresses and been thinking of trying one on for the fun of it. But, now that I read the price difference, I don't know if I like #2 $1700 more. But I really think you should go with your gut and what makes you feel the most beautiful. Good luck!
  4. I really want to have hot pink or pink (just not pale) chair sashes for the ceremony. I think it will add a pop of colour. I've already requested them and they are in my contract. Now that my wedding is getting closer, I'm second guessing my decision. Do you think they will take away from the natural beauty of Las Caletas. I'm not having a chuppa, just the included arch. I would not have the chair sashes for the dinner chairs.
  5. Welcom, fellow DW bride I used to live in Ottawa and so miss it. As for resort suggestions, check out tripadvisor.com for reviews on resorts in general. Once you've found a couple of resorts that you like start searching for reviews that cover weddings at that resort. Sometimes a resort will be great to visit but not so good on the marriage department.
  6. I can't believe people actually did this? Out of pure curiousity, I wonder if it actually worked and what the health repurcussions were. Because you know, nothing beats a tapeworm after a long hard day

  8. I heard both good and bad stories about Skyservice. Sometimes the attendants are awesome, allow you to lay your dress flat in the overhead that holds the pillows so no one puts their stuff on your dress, to attendants that have told brides to roll up the dress and stuff it under the seat. There is no way I am stuffing my dress under the tiny seat!! Can you imagine telling the attendant she had to do that to her dress. The nerve!! I hope they are in a good mood on April 18th!!! I'm going to try and have my FH's suit not count as a carry on as well. Why should the privilege only extend to the bride? The groom is just as important. Some people have even gotten away with bringing their bridesmaid dresses or MOB dresses on and not count as an extra. But once again, it depends on the agents discretion. What I'm going to do to maximize the amount I can bring without getting dinged with extra charges for weight allowances is buy a big bag and call it my purse, which is also not considered a carry on.
  9. That really sucks, I'm sorry you are going through this. I completly understand where you are coming from. Of our 23 guests, only 5 of them are from FI's family (his parents, brother and one aunt and uncle). Several other of his family members who routinely go on vacation and can afford to attend decided not to. One aunt told us if we were getting married in Cuba in February she would be there but she could not be bothered to go to Mexico in April instead. My travel agent specialises in destination weddings and she told me that when problems arise with guests and family members backing out 95% of the time it is the groom's side. It is sooo frustrating. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when I was considering placing deposits my travel agent told me that if anyone backed out, the deposits would be transferred to our account since we put the money down. Is this not the case with you? If not, I would send them a bill for the money they owe you and your FI.
  10. My cousin walked down the aisle to that song. I thought it was so fitting.
  11. As for the whole spank thing, I'm not gonna bother sweating like mad. The way I see it, I will be in a bikini all week in front of my guests, without the help of spank.
  12. When you have cups sewn in, do you buy a bra you want (i.e a great push up) and the seamstress uses that to sew into the dress?
  13. Exited Ottawa Do you have a travel agent? Mine is awesome and she specializes in destination weddings. She's been in the travel industry for over 22 years. She fought tooth and nail with me to get the best deal for me and my guests. Let me know if you want her contact info.
  14. Not sure I should advertise of another wedding forum but here goes... There is a site: weddingbells.ca that has a forum. Under the inspiring ideas section, at the very top is a sticky post designated for wedding up do's. There is over 20 pages of ideas.
  15. 1. How old are you? 30 2. At what age did you/will you get married? 30 3. Do you have children? Not yet 4. Did you think you would marry the person you are with now? When I first met him, within an hour of talking with him I actually thought to myself "he's going to make some woman very lucky one day, he will be a great husband". I had no idea that the woman would be me. 5. Were you ever engaged or married to someone other than the person you are with now? No 6. Do you want a garden wedding, beach wedding, or the traditional church wedding? Beach wedding, I want to see the ocean and hear the waves, feel the sand between my toes and be surrounded by palm trees and my closest friends and family. 7. Where did you/will you get married? Las Caletas, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico 8. First dance - classic waltz, slow and sexy, or fast and spicy? Slow and sexy 9. How many guests did you/will you have? About 25 10. Do you want/did you have an extravagant wedding or a simple wedding? Simple, yet still encompass some of the tradional aspects of a larger wedding at home. 11. Vows - traditional or something you make up on your own? Traditional, our own vows as well as the sand and hand ceremony. 12. How many layers of cake did you/will you have? 2 layers, with fresh flowers and a starfish on top 13. Is/was your wedding/reception at a hotel? No, it is at Las Caletas, a location you can only get to by boat. We will have a private ceremony and reception on the beach. 14. When did you/will you get married - sunrise, mid-day, sunset? Near sunset, want to have light left for pics. 15. Did you/will you have your reception outdoors or indoors? Outdoors 16. Plan every detail down to the napkins or let someone else decide? I guess I would fall somewhere in between. I've done some planning in regards to decor but have not covered every single detail. From pictures of previous weddings at Las Caletas, the wedding coordinators definately know what they are doing. Besides, I don't think I could possibly remember or think of each detail. 17. How did/will the bride enter? Down a staircase onto the beach with my father. At the end of the stairs my mom will meet us so both my parents can give me away. 18. Song to walk down the aisle to: Fly by Sarah Groves and my BM's will walk to Nothing else Matters by Lucie Silvas. 19. Song to make your exit: Somewhere over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo 20. Will you/did you have a solemn ceremony or a light one? I'm hoping its light and not considered solemn. 21. At what age did you think you would get married? Around this age, I always hoped to be married at 30years old but it was never a pressing issue, it just happened this way. 22. Who to invite - practically everyone or a select few? A select few. 23. Wedding menu - fine dining or simply delicious? Simply delicous. It is buffet style so surely there will be something to please everyone. 24. Champagne or red wine? Tropical drinks, wine, beer, whatever your heart desires... 25. Honeymoon right after the wedding, awhile after the wedding, or no honeymoon? Right after the wedding, at the same resort. 26. Was your/will your honeymoon be at a place special to you both or somewhere brand new to you both? A new place place, I've never seen the pacific ocean before and have never been to Puerto Vallarta. I was drawn to the ocean surrounded by mountains and jungle. 27. Who will pay for the bills? For the wedding? Some help from my parents but for the most part all by ourselves. We are not even having a wedding shower, stag and doe or expecting gifts from our guests. 28. Living together: Not before marriage or absolutely before marriage? Before marriage, I would never commit my life to someone without knowing if we could live together peacefully. 29. Anything else about marriage you'd like to say? As much as I'm looking forward to our wedding, I'm a bit scared. It is a huge commitment. But I think I'm prepared because I know marriage is not a fairytale and is something you need to work on to make work. I love my FH so much and he is such a great person that I know I've made the right decision.
  16. The documents you require will depend on the country you are getting married in. I would look up the wedding requirements on the internet of which country you are getting married at. I wish I could help more but we are doing the legal aspect of the wedding here in Canada, which only requires a marriage license and an officiant.
  17. OMG...that's too funny. I'm sooo sorry hun. I know you should want to honour your FH's feelings about what he wants to wear on his wedding day but to be honest I think if it were me I'd beg and plead for him to not wear the kilt. I would go as far as saying I don't find kilts on men attractive at all and does he really want to turn me off on our wedding day.
  18. I understand what you mean about getting emotional. We completed our ceremony and wrote our own vows last weekend. I sat down to read the ceremony outload to my FH and several times I had to stop or I was going to burst into tears. I'm hoping I'll be able to hold it together during the actual ceremony. I'm thinking I'll bring a notecard because I may forget the vows being nervous. We wrote the vows so that we each say a part back and forth. I think that may help calm us.
  19. When I was picking my resort, I did tons of research on tripadvisor and debbiesdominican and I not only focused on general travel reviews but how the weddings turned out. Although the Majestic Colonial is very popular and gets high ratings I would suggest avoiding it. I was originally looking into this resort but came across so many reviews were couples had several problems with their weddings and the prices are way overpriced. Also, recently a girl claims to have had her engagement ring stolen from the safe deposit box.
  20. Starchild How long does it take to get to Quimixto? Ideally I would only like to be gone from the resort and our guests for a half a day? Is this possible?
  21. Wow, those sites look amazing. I'll have to check out Quimixto for sure. Trash the dress with horses would be so beautiful.
  22. MY girls are wearing hot pink dresses and this is their bouquet. It is also mine but I'm having mine larger and more bridal.
  23. I love the Alfred Angelo one...not much of a fan of the first dress.
  24. I'm also a Las Caletas bride who is staying at Dreams. I know what you mean about family and friends watching the ttd shoot. To minimize this, we are going to do the shoot at sunrise. I heard the lighting is best in the morning and late day versus the middle of the day. I'm sure there will be a few people around but not that many will be around so early in the morning. The weird thing for us is that my brother is doing the shoot. He has professional cameras and does retail photography. He's never shot people before. However, a photographer is not in our budget other than the basic package at Las Caletas so I'd rather my brother do the shoot than not at all. I never considered leaving Dreams but now that you brought the idea up I'm definatly interested in what the other options may be.
