  1. Thanks everyone! Today I'm feeling a little run down, but overall things are going pretty well! I have a brow wax @ 2pm, need to go to Half Price Books, pick up an Rx, pick up B1/Thiamine (when you take this it releases an odor that only bugs can smell, will protect you from all insects including mosquitoes and ticks - since I was bitten by a tick in MX 2 years ago and still suffering the consequences I'm being smart this time! LOL), grab Martin a brown belt, finish the last min packing (ya know, those things you have to hold off for until the very end and pray you don't forget? haha!), and... uhm... what else? Pick up some face sunscreen... seems like there's something else? But really not TOO much left! We head out from our house around 10am tomorrow. I'll have the internet there so will probably be checking in (you know I can't stay away from BDW! lol). Quote: Originally Posted by BachataBride I am so excited for you Jamie!!!!! WOOHOO!!! I can't wait to hear how he likes it - if he's anything like DH with watches he's going to LOVE it!!! If I'm not online before Tuesday (doubtful!), have an AMAZING trip!!! And make sure you fill us all in when you get back!!!! Bon Voyage!!!!! The box has NOT yet arrived, and UPS just came by!! Which means.... it will probably not be here in time I'll just have to write Martin a card that says what it is i guess. BOO! Quote: Originally Posted by yamille You are not alone. I'm a mess and need to start packing. We are doing laundry and last minute decided to make ceremony programs- it was a last mintue thing but took up way too much time. We are almost there I can't believe it!!! Woohoo, you're almost there too! We're almost packed but I have to give my Grandma total credit for that! lol Thank God for her!!!! Laundry is still being cycled through, but overall I'm taking mostly brand new clothes so was super easy to pack for once! Quote: Originally Posted by -Kate- I can't believe it's finally here!! I think I'm the last of the older members who are still around to get married! I feel like the little sister - the last one to be married off! haha Quote: Originally Posted by MsShelley Yeah Jamie, I am so excited for you, relax you have everything done, lol!!! Thanks Shelley! LMAO ... i have several massages scheduled at the resort and i can't wait to go get them, as well as some strong drinks (like that margarita you're enjoying, lol). you're almost there, sweetie! time to become a MRS!!!! Thank goodness I've not been super snappy - just a little sensitive and over-emotional Quote: Originally Posted by mummergirl btw, how's your tanning rash? i was thinking of you because i did two tanning sessions this weekend and like an idiot i totally scorched myself, lol! It's doing great! Actually I broke down and bought L'Oreal's self body & face tanner at the recommendation of my MOH and it is AWESOME! If you have time, I'd totally recommend going and grabbing it. You have to let it sit for at least 12 hrs but it gives a great, natural color! Some of the itchy bumps are still there but you cannot see them... until I go lay out in the sun - then they rear their ugly faces again I found out my sis has the same rxn to tanning beds (though we have totally different skin - I got my Mom's freckles and fair skin while she can tan easily... lucky!!! ) OH that reminds me - I need to run by Palm Beach today and cancel my membership!!
  2. Hey chica! If it makes you feel any better I am perpetually sick because I have Chronic Lyme disease. I'm not feeling so hot today myself, and we fly out tomorrow have a bit of a fever, scratchy throat and tons of congestion.. plus the usual Lyme symptoms (bone pain, fatigue, memory fog, etc. etc.!) I'm just praying that I feel ok on the BIG DAY! Start taking the following stat (just my suggestion!): *1 tsp Colloidal Silver (make sure it's a good brand!!) 2 or 3x a day for about a week or until you feel good. This is a natural antibiotic but will also help kill viruses (on top of infections). Great all natural remedy!!! If you have junk in your sinuses, you can add 1 tsp mixed with water into a nettipot also. *Start Ecchinachea *Start Vit C Supplements * B Vitamin for increased energy - make sure it's dissolved sublingually, B12 is the best for this If you're congested keep on the allergy/decongestant and add in something like Musinex to get all that junk out. Also drink TONS of water - I mean TONS! LOL Try to stay away from refined sugar too. And if you can, eat lots of fresh fruit & veggies. Sounds like obvious advice but that's because it really does have some merit! lol I'm so sorry you're feeling this way But, I kinda know how you feel! hang in there
  3. 1 week, ladies - 1 WEEK!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!! LOL Ok, so tell me if this is normal - I am getting so super emotional over literally the smallest things. Like my Grandma came over today to help us do laundry and pack (SO sweet!!) and she found my headband and I nearly started crying! LOL (wtf? haha) I keep tearing up over the smallest things! I think I'm gonna have to really push it and watch Father of the Bride one last time before we leave - HAHAHA (Love that movie!) So, OMG - we leave on Tuesday!!!! Exactly 7 days from now Martin and I will have just met for our "First Glance"! how exciting!!! So, everything is just about finished!!! Tomorrow I have an eyebrow wax and need to pick up a good beach book (though I do have this one full of Mexican tales that I'm looking forward to) from Half Price books. I love going there because they have the "pay by the minute massages" and they're SO good! We'll probably try to sneak in a couple of massages while we're there I'm literally sitting on the only "slice" of our bed that is not covered with wedding/packing stuff - haha! I am just SO damn emotional! did y'all feel this way 1 week before, 2 days before you left?? Everything is coming together smoothly.. Yes, my BMs are freaking OUT about the small things (like where to get their nail polish, etc.) but other than that it's all great! I'm now sipping on a very strong margarita trying to picture waves out in front of me... ooooh, ahhhhh... We meet up with Nicole (our WC from Las Caletas) on Wednesday at the Lighthouse in The Marina for drinks and to go over last min. things - so pumped for that! YEAH! OK! Just had to get out a bit of my exuberance to some ppl who might actually understand FYI I've been trying to work on a planning thread but I just don't have pics of everything! Guess I'll try and just post what I have - or do like someone else did and post it when we return? Dunno, we'll see what I have time for AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. We even registered for things like candles at Target just because we truly use them all the time and love 'em! We also upgraded our kitchen appliances and pots/pans, plus asked for nice knives. And I finally broke down and just picked out a china pattern. It's cute and funky and I like it (went in thinking NO WAY will I register for that! lol). We also registered for some nice towels... even a BluRay player! lol pretty much anything is fair game! Definitely register though so you don't end up with a bunch of stuff taking up room that you don't want or like. Hope that helps!

If you offer a gift to your bridesmaids (which is what this would be) but you will be financially hurt if they don't "repay" you by standing in your wedding, then you can't afford to give that gift. Imagine giving someone an i-phone (or other gift of similar cost as what you are giving your BMs) for their birthday and including a contract inside the birthday card that says they agree to answer when you call, they have a 20 minute window to return text messages, they must attend your birthday party when it comes, and they have to get you a comprable gift when the time comes. You wouldn't do that. (I'm guessing.) If you aren't considering this financial contribution as a gift, and more as a business deal, then you can probably hire rent-a-bridesmaids that would appreciate the discounted vacation, a free wedding reception, and whatever else you are providing and will agree to your contract requests. I think you need to ask yourself why it is important to you that they be there. I am asking my BMs because I want them to know what they mean to me, and I am looking at it as a position of honor, not a duty I am hiring them to perform. I have no expectations of my BMs. I know my friends, and I know that they will want to (in fact they will be excited to) help with making my wedding go smoothly. However, if they didn't lift one finger to help me, and they ended up not being able to make it, they would still know that I loved them enough to ask them to take a position of honor in my wedding. The gifts I am giving my BMs are not "payment" for showing up and being in my pictures. They are another representation of my appreciation for their friendship. Conversely, the costs they pay as being part of my wedding are representative of their love for me. If I pay for my BMs dresses, that is my gift to them, whether they use it or not. Has anyone ever given you a gift that you didn't use? (Like that ugly sweater Aunt Edna gave you last Christmas.) You are in no way obligated to use a gift. Like I said above, if you can't afford to take the hit on an unused gift, then you can't afford to give that gift. This may be an unpopular opinion, but this theory also applies to your situation with your friend's wedding. If you couldn't afford to buy the BM dress and shoes and whatever else you paid for, then you couldn't afford it. That was your gift to her. Hopefully she appreciated it, but not everyone appreciates every gift we give them. You can't control that, and if it upsets you, then you shouldn't give the gift in the first place. (I am of course assuming that she didn't hold a gun to your head and force you to pay for those items.) (Also, yes, I probably would have been annoyed at the situation, but I wouldn't hold it against her for 5 years.) Finally, you are not obligated to ask anyone to be in your wedding. (Best friends since kindergarten or not.) If you think that she (or any of your other BMs) won't be a reliable BM, then why honor her with such a position? I am honestly not trying to "lay into" you. I am hoping that this way of looking at the situation will shed some new light on the subject for you. Of course, ultimately, it is your decision. We all come to this forum to ask for advice. We don't always take the advice that is given. I'm sure each of us has even read something someone offered as advice and thought, "no way, I wouldn't do it that way." And that's the beauty of the forum. There's lots of great (and maybe some not so great) ideas floating around and we get to pick and choose which ones we want to use for our own weddings. Thanks for posting this Christy. I am a huge gift giver, I just love picking out special things for people. Your post gave me a new outlook on things like this! Great advice
  7. Gongrats, Yamille! Busy busy time for you! (I understand though!) You look gorgeous, love your outfit
  8. Good luck! Our wedding is still on for May 24th! None of our guests freaked out - I am so proud of everyone!! Even my 70-something year old Grandparents! It's ON! "Operation P.V. Rain or Swine!" (we got our "Rain or Swine" koozies in btw, they look awesome!) We head out for P.V. on Tuesday!
  9. I don't even know if our plane to PVR and back has 1st class ~ would be a super nice bonus though!! We are riding AA with FI's Dad who has Elite status with them though. I'll be extra sweet to the gate attendant, thanks for that tip
  10. Hi Jennifer, I'm wearing a white "Bride" tank top and jeans with flip flops. I'll probably also take a light weight pink zip up hoodie in case it gets chilly.
  11. lol Jacylinda. YUP!!!! And we leave in 4 DAYS!!!!! Eeeeeek!!! :)
  12. I haven't been able to figure out how to change my mood in a long time! If you figure it out, let me know!
  13. Yes, hopefully I won't because the airline will be SO NICE that they'll let me hang it up
  14. Thanks for the advice everyone. Unfortunately my Dad got it for us and somehow roped it into our mortgage (ughhhh, I know - smart, right?!). He said he got a really good deal. it's an LG so it's a great model. Starting to miss the tv At least we have our smaller LCD in the bedroom! I guess we'll take it to a repair shop and see what's up after we get back from the HM.
  15. I'd also like to add that I have completely paid for my hairdresser/makeup artist's (who is also a family friend) trip. She's known for being a bit flaky (totally ADD!) but I just took the chance because she could not have afforded otherwise. She could have totally backed out on me after the Swine Flu, but in the end she did not! And we ended up much closer No way would I have ever made her sign a contract! And she's doing my hair/makeup! I cherish her friendship much more than the money I would have lost - it would have hurt but we could've talked about it and at least saved our relationship! Don't do it! That is my bottom line advice. Take the risk if you can, if you can't then do not offer it. Also talk with each of them separately and find out if they really can afford it. And remember, things do change - people lose their jobs, strange illnesses (*cough* swine flu *cough*) arise, etc. etc. etc.!
  16. No, I don't think we're sure 100% that it was from the storm. Honestly I know little to nothing about how TVs work... but FI said it looks to be something like the circuit board? or something like that? He thinks it can be fixed, but it's going to be a biatch to take off the wall and get it somewhere, then have to pay the extra money to have it fixed. But, shit happens. We'll probably just wait until we get home from out HM to deal with it...
  17. I'm so sorry you had to postpone your wedding, but how amazing was that!? I love it!!! Seriously, looks like a total bonus wedding ~ how much fun! And I of course LOVE all the little piggies everywhere! hahaha And how sweet and thoughtful of your hubby to treat you to a "mini-honeymoon"!!! awwwwww! CONGRATS and best of luck to you!
  18. Awww I'm so into looking at wedding pics right now since mine is SO CLOSE now! Love it - so sweet, YAY!!!! CONGRATS, MRS!
  19. Oooh, Tara - I am just now really looking at these. LOVE THEM!!! Our photographer for our E-photos had one of those funky cameras - seemed cool! Love your pics! They're getting me so excited for my own upcoming wedding @ LC!!!
  20. Ok girls - Martin picked up our new HD FLIP Video Camcorder today!!!!!! Woohoo!!!! It has 8GB, 120 mins, internal memory storage. It really is a great size. I shot a couple of quick movies to make sure it would work and looks good! It's great since my Uncle basically split the cost with us - it doesn't feel like a "guilty" splurge, but more like a very FUN wedding gift! I'm so excited and cannot WAIT to try it out both in Mexico AND Jamaica!!! How VERY COOL! Plus, Martin got me this super cool HP laptop that is great for things like making movies, etc. (though I've never tried out those features YET!). This is gonna be fun! Thanks for everyone's help
  21. Awwwwwwwwwwww, that last post got me looking at your pics, Tara. *sniff, sniff* I'm starting to get more emotional with each passing day! I can't believe we're about to embark on the dream trip of our lives - sharing and proclaiming our vows in front of our closest family and friends. I'm totally going to need a hankie on my Wedding Day! hahah
  22. I like how Maureen phrased it. I would not do the contract, and I would personally feel offended by said contract. I understand you feel that you're giving a lot - you're probably used to people flaking on you. Gosh, I feel you on that!! I think once you lay down (via email or over cocktails) what exactly is expected of them both money and responsibility wise, then offer them a few days to think it over that would be great. I know one of my BMs ended up acting super weird so I finally called her out and it turned out she had just made too quick of a judgement and she really could not afford it but didn't want to hurt my feelings. SO I gave her the option of "backing out" and she took it. Then I had another BM never place a deposit and a couple of months ago I confronted her and found out she too is in debt and could not afford it. Was I upset? Well, yes. But in the end, the two girls who placed their deposits early on were the two that will be my MOH and BM, and I am honestly so happy and satisfied with that. I think it's great advice to wait until you see who places a deposit before you ask. I read that on here somewhere. I kind of wish I'd waited to do that, but in the end I really wouldn't change a thing. I've really found out who my true friends & family are!!! (and not just those going - some that just can't go are still very supportive!) Oh, and btw - for the 2 girls who did book, I ended up paying for 1 night's stay + deposit for MOH and I bought my BM's dress (around $200). I'm also getting them massages on the beach the day of as well as hand made pairs of foot jewels
