  1. So, Martin and I finally went ring shopping today! Very exciting. We went to Zales and found a ring we both really like. Here is a pic of it if I can get it to work: The website says they also have it in Princess Cut, which I may have to check out but so far I think this is the one. It's on sale - normally it's $2,500 but right now it's only $1,300. Since we're still in school this works out perfectly for us! And they have a lifetime upgrade, just in case we ever decide to go with a better clarity or bigger size. I really like it though, and I think it fits me nicely - pretty and elegant. Oh yeah, we're going to go with a small, simple white gold band to show it off. *Swoon* It's all finally coming together!!! (Now he just has to ask me, lol!) ;P

  3. I have one for the tummy. It works well but you can't wear it under anything with a low rise in the front or back. Also I would like it better if it came down a little further. I always find myself tugging at it. It definitely sucks you in though!

  5. Everything will work out. And keep in mind, this is fun stuff!! Best wishes

  7. Oh, cool. I was just wondering how the weddings are there. Our travel agent really recommended it so we're going to check it out in June. Let me know how your wedding goes!

  10. We are going in June just to check out the possibilities. We were already planning a vacation so this is just something else to do while we're down there. Plus I really want to see the hotels in person. My TA is setting up appointments for us while we are down there in PDC. Very excited!
  11. I'm also trying to keep guest costs down as much as possible while still having a decent wedding. Do you have a TA? Ours seems to be getting us pretty good deals and it looks like our guests will be spending under $1k ea. for 4 nights +air + A.I. (probably more like $800-$900) and if we get enough people flying out of DFW she may be able to get us a group rate as well as all or part of our trip free! Right now we are looking at the Iberostar Tucan which may or may not be our first choice (we are planning a site visit in June) but it will be affordable for the guests, and then our TA suggested that towards the end of our stay we go to one of the nicer resorts for a few days on our Honeymoon. Sounds good to me!

Then $600 for the extra 24 people on top of that first 20. $40 for the judge's transportation, $180 for our blood tests, $35 for our apostille seal $104 for extra flowers (MOH's bouquet & GM's bout, corsage for mom, bout for dad) $54 for 3 extra botles of champagne and then probably around $250-300 in tips I think that's it other than our favours and that kind of stuff. Hi Melissa - Thanks for the breakdown. Where are you getting married?
  13. Our TA recommended the Iberostar Tucan in Playa del Carmen. We are planning a "site visit" trip down there in June to check it out as well as a few others...
  14. Btw, luckily my hairdresser is a friend and she is going to pay to fly herself to our wedding to do my hair and makeup as her gift to us! And my uncle is an AMAZING photographer so I'm going to ask him to do our photos. I'm hoping this will save us some mula. After reading those other threads, I'm beginning to get nervous! I think we will have to push it off til Summer of '09...
  15. Great thanks. Btw, I estimate we will have anywhere from 15-30 people. It's hard to know since we haven't even told anyone yet! We were originally looking at a little boutique wedding hotel (Playa Fiesta) in PV which would have run us around $10-15k (Yikes!!!). But then our travel agent told us some great things about Playa del Carmen and their wedding packages, particularly the Iberostar resorts. If we could keep it under 5k that would be great!
  16. Sorry to be nosy, but I'm trying to get a general idea of how much we need to expect the wedding to be (including ceremony, reception, flowers, cake, etc.). Not including your vacation fees, how much do you guys plan on spending? Our travel agent told us to set aside around $3k at the most... Thanks in advance for your help!
  17. Hi Sophie, I plan on getting married in the Summer of either '08 or '09. We went down last August to Playa del Carmen and the weather was fine. It did rain a bit here and there but all in all we still had a terrific trip! Maybe plan a location underneath an awning or overhang of some sort...? (just in case!) Sorry to hear about the in-law mess! That's the WORST!!!!! I feel your pain though. I'm sure a Summer wedding will be great. I'd say the earlier in the Summer you can do it, the better. Good luck! Jaime
  18. Hi Weez, I haven't been to El Dorado but I have been to Royal Porto twice! I absolutely loved it and would probably get married there if it was cheaper. The rooms are amazing - spacious suites w/jacuzzi hot tub come standard! And the grounds are absolutely beautiful. I loved the funky mariachi and bird sculptures down by the pool/garden area. Good restaurants too. I have never actually seen a wedding take place there so I can't really put my two cents in on that, but overall the hotel is really nice and it's right next to downtown Playa. The only downside is from what I've heard the beaches might not be quite as nice as some of the other resorts. If you have any more questions on the Royal just let me know! Jaime
  19. Hi, I'm Jaime. We are not sure yet when we'll be getting married (we're not even engaged yet, but that date is quickly approaching...), but we're pretty set on the Riviera Maya area - most likely sometime during the Summer, either '08 or '09. Right now our travel agent is steering us towards the Iberostar Tucan resort because she has done several weddings there and thinks the price is really good for the purpose of getting more people to go. (Around $800-900/person total) We are planning a trip down there to go visit that as well as other places in the area. The Iberostar Tucan looks like it may be a bit too casual for what we are looking for though. We have stayed at the Royal Porto Real twice and really love that resort but it may be too expensive to ask people to stay at. I would love to hear any feedback you may have on the Iberostar Tucan or any other hotels in the area! Thanks! Jaime
