  1. Congrats Julia! How exciting that you got engaged in Mexico! How did he do it? Does that have anything to do with why you are having the wedding there?
  2. How old does your cousin look? I'd think if he looks his age or slightly younger they may ask but if he looks older I don't see why they would... Maybe call the hotel under a "pseudonym" and ask. Do some detective work, lol.
  3. Awe, that looks like so much fun! Congrats

What a great idea about renting out the mansion for the wedding!!!
  6. Hi Tina, I'm from Dallas. We are going to Playa del Carmen in June to do site checks. What dates are you going?
  7. Interesting thread, lol. I'd say it's unanimous - definitely send separate thank you's!
  8. Hi and welcome! I am planning on getting married in PDC Summer of '09 (I know, it's a ways away, lol). My TA really suggests the Iberostar Resorts there. We are going in June to check them out.
  9. We're going in June (@ RM) to do this as well. We are just planning to meet w/ WC(s) and check out the locations and hopefully see a wedding or 2 if there are any.

  13. Good question. I agree with the word of mouth idea. Now hopefully it will spread w/o issues... You never know how ppl are though. If they hear it verbally they still might get offended. But whatever. I would just make sure and pass on that you are definitely not asking for gifts and their presence is enough and just say that you are spreading the word *just in case*. Good luck!
  14. In Playa del Carmen: Go check out the Blue Paradise Inn or Bar or Club or whatever it's called. ;P It's a great bar with lots of swings and is right on the beach. We went there for my bday a couple of years back. Also, if it is still there we went to a bar called The Tequila Barrel. It is owned by a friend of a friend who used to live here in Texas. Shopping is a lot of fun there also. I just love the town, it is very cute and the people are friendly. I'm going back to Playa in June for the 3rd time. We will be there from the 9th-13th for my Bday (June 10). Have fun!!!
  15. Very nice! I don't know if I would be so brave... it does look like fun though! I think there are enough Dallas girls on here... maybe we can get Leigh to come out here sometime (that is, after I muster up the courage... ;P )
  16. Haha, thanks for the advice - and for the laughs! I needed that
  17. We don't want to elope though. Mexico is a very special place to us both and we really want to share it with those closest to us. I understand that not everyone will be able to go. I think the idea is just a little harder for Martin's side of the fam to take since they are more traditional. My sister got married in Aspen, CO and my Dad got married in Mexico so my family has had some time to get used to these DW's - We will see though... At this point we're fine if it's just my family ;P I do think his parents will go though, and those are the ppl on his side that we most want to be there. So if that's all that makes it from that side it won't be too bad. I think (*crosses fingers*) a lot of ppl from my side will be there.
  18. Oooook, so Martin and I are not even engaged yet. However, his whole family knows that he is planning on asking me. His bro got engaged on Vday of this year and out of pure respect for him and his fiance (so as not to "rain on their parade) Martin told his brother before anyone else what he was planning. His bro said he appreciated him telling him that so everything seemed cool. Then Martin told his mom and I think they went ring shopping together. Everything's still cool, right? But then last night Martin and I went over to his mom's house and she had found out already about our plans to have a DW in Mexico. She kind of gave us a guilt trip telling us that his 80-something grandmother as well as several other members of his family would probably not be going because it's not "traditional" or "right". But overall she seemed somewhat supportive of us doing what we want. (Let me just insert here that I HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN ASKED YET and ppl are already talking about our wedding in front of me! Where's the surprise?!) So it turns out that Martin's bro told his mom about our plans. I guess Martin had let it slip to his bro's fiance on Saturday night and when they were over at his mom's on Sunday they told her and made it seem like we were going to run away to Mexico without anyone and get married. We had specifically told them that we don't plan on having the wedding until Summer of '09 to give everyone time to save. Anyways, Martin's brother went off on Martin telling him how SELFISH we are being by having a DW in Mexico. Martin and I were completely in tears last night. We obviously wanted to tell his family the news in our own way and that has been ruined. I think that his bro and his fiance are jealous of us - we just recently bought a townhome and a new car and now we are getting married too. I can understand their feelings, but he is being EXTREMELY immature about this whole thing and is now trying to sabotage our wedding. He has definitely crossed the line and now there's a big rift in the family dynamics and it just plain stinks! Anyways, I hope that made sense. It's hard to fit in all what happened but I just had to rant. Thanks for reading.
  19. Hi, I also live in Dallas and am going through Tiki Trips here in town. They are located in Uptown - Have you tried them? They specialize in Destination Weddings - Dena is the TA there. So far she has seemed very helpful. Tiki Trips - Unique Vacations to Exotic Destinations We just booked a vacation through her for June of this year to Playa del Carmen to go check out possible resorts for our wedding location. The rates were very fair.
  20. I got really sick about a month ago and started drinking a TON of water. It has since tapered off some but I am still trying to get in as much as possible. I do think it aids in weight loss or maintenance.
