  1. Hi, You are very wise to know to look for more photos! I'm sure she can give you access to more. Have you tried emailing her and asking? Any photographer should give you access to several complete weddings and not just their "best of" shots. Anyway...don't worry about asking her - I'm sure she won't mind. Good luck!
  2. There is a difference, but a lot of photographers don't seem to know what the difference is. So...you will see a lot of photographers calling themselves photojournalists when they are not. Photojournalism is capturing events as they naturally happen without interrupting or creating anything. A photojournalist would not direct a client where to stand or how to position themselves at all. If a photojournalist wanted to take a dress shot or a ring shot - they wouldn't move it to a prettier or more artistic setting - they would shoot it where they saw it. When you think of photojournalism, think of a newspaper photographer - they need everthing to be absolutely truthful/accurate - and not contrived in any way. Some wedding and portrait photgraphers are strict photojournalists as well. A lifestyle photographer is documenting a lifestyle or event. They may move things around to re-position people or things. This is the approach that I take. Honestly, I think I can sometimes better tell the story of the day (or the family or whatever) by moving things around. I also enjoy getting artistic shots of the couple. I hope that makes sense!
  3. Which Playa del Carmen resorts are you considering?
  4. Awww...I heart Catherine!!! I must warn you though - she was not completely truthful! lol She didn't even have an ounce of bridezilla in her - so don't believe that part - she was so concerned about everyone else. Somehow, she even knew I was a vegetarian and had a delicious vegetarian meal for me!! Oh - but this isn't a review about Catherine is it? lol Catherine's vendors rocked the house and her cake toppers were so cute I just went and snagged a couple of shots for you to see. Even the back of Will's jersey had fabulous detail! Thank you for your sweet words!
  5. Thanks. Tami - I can't wait to see your photos!! It won't be long now.
  6. Ditto Catherine! Although Catherine had her wedding elsewhere - I think I have a picture of the gazebo overlooking the water where the weddings take place. I thought someone might want to see it sometime. If you want to see it, pm me and I can try to dig up the file. Catherine's breakfast at the big gazebo overlooking the water was really nice!!
  7. If you go to Catherine and Will's wedding: http://www.pictage.com/297758 you can see lots of pics. Catherine did a great job. When you log in, look in the details folder. You can see the starfish at the place settings and the board set up that directed people to their tables.

    yikes!

Hi, I have photographed weddings at Moon Palace in Cancun and Grand Occidental Xcaret in Playa del Carmen. The bride from Moon Palace was married at the resort. The bride from Grand Occidental was married in town. Both weddings were fun and the brides were fabulous - but the wedding in town was so exciting...the energy was incredible. If you go to my blog and click on "Categories" then "Weddings" - the first wedding that pops up will be the Playa del Carmen wedding. Jill Higgins Photography Blog The Cancun wedding is on my old blog. If you go here: <img src = "http://www.jillhiggins/bloglogo.jpg"> Scroll down to March 6th and look for Lenita and Andre's wedding in Mexico. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about either place. Best wishes!
  9. Hey, Sorry...I had some problems with my blog the other day - but everything is back up and running.
  10. Okay - I know this is not what you asked and my answer may not make me popular - but would you consider a way to make the task more manageable? I would hate to see you take the chance of offending your closest family and friends. It is possible that if you are not willing to take 2-3 minutes to write a note to them, they will feel slighted. What if you wrote something really simple like... "Thank you so much for being a part of a our special day and for your generous gift. We are looking forward to using the money to help buy __________." If you did 15 cards at a time, that should only take about 30 minutes at the most. You could set aside one day a week to do that, and it would only take you five weeks to have them all done.
  11. Thanks so much everyone. Edna - yes that was a coin she was putting in her shoe. Julie - the swim up bar was cool, but believe me...the water was FREEZING! Amy - That is what I was thinking the whole time - how could someone know how to plan a wedding that would be that fun!
  12. Well...there were a couple of problems. First, they will not allow you to take pics of anyone in a wedding gown at the ruins. Trust me - they will have a security guard follow you to be sure that you don't. So...Catherine and Will put on "street clothes" before we went in and had a small bag with them with her dress inside. Also - the other photographer and I went in ahead of them so we would just look like geeky tourists. Second - there are two points where you can get down to the beach. The walkway/steps that takes you down to the beach where we thought we could get the shots was closed. It looks like the stairs need to be repaired. This also happens to be the spot on the beach where you have the view of the ruins in the background. So...we thought we tried the othere side but 1) you just don't have the good view and 2) a guard stopped us. With that said, there is another option. You can go down the road past the entrance to Tulum. We walked, but you can take a taxi to the roadblock, then you have to walk the rest of the way. You can go to Paradiso (or something like that). The beach is beautiful there. But you can also go to the bar and they can find someone that will take you around to that spot on the beach by boat. Good luck!!
  13. THanks - they were so much fun. We went down the road - past the entrance to Tulum to Paradiso Beach. It was really pretty and quiet there.

    new

You've got to be kidding - that sounds like sooo much fun!
  17. Your photographer would probably appreciate a meal if he/she is working for five hours. I know I always get to my wedding location early - usually an hour in advance "just in case" something delays me. Then you have to consider the travel time too. So even though they may be only working for you for five hours - it could have been a long time since their last meal. Another thing to consider is that it may be too late for them to reasonably get a meal afterwards by the time they pack up and get somewhere.
  18. Hi Heidi, I am so sorry to hear that you are going through such a tough time. You are in my prayers.
