  1. Thanks everyone for you sweet comments! Elizabeth really is awesome! And I do have a super sweet husband!
  2. So some of you know that I was hoping to have some photos done while I was in Mexico photographing a wedding. My husband was able to go along with me and I thought it would be fun to get some shots of the two of us while we were there. We have been married 12 years and we really don't have anything - our wedding photos were terrible. So...I hired Elizabeth Medina. She did a fabulous job - I am SO unphotogenic - and I really love what she got. We had a great time meeting her and her family and hanging out with them. I'll try to add a couple of pics here later, but here is the slideshow if you would like to see. The pics were taken at the Fairmont Mayakoba. Jill and Brian
  3. There are lots of great photographers on the forum. And yes - sometimes it can actually be less expensive to hire a U.S. photographer. The most important thing is to find a photographer whose style you like. You never know - they may be able to give you a good deal. I know that I have slow times of year - and most photographers do. If someone contacts me and I am out of their price range - I can usually refer them to someone who lives somewhere else - because slow periods vary from state to state. Good luck with your search!
  4. Caye Chapel is a pretty location. As far as other places on Ambergris go - You may want to check with Mata Chica - that is my favorite place on the north end...really cool. I have the name of two very helpful wedding planners if you would like me to pass them along to you...just email me at jill@jillhiggins.com. I will need to go look up their email addresses and for some reason it's taking a long time to load the pages here today.
  5. Uhhh....I think you can find the answer here... Font Conference - CollegeHumor video Sorry...couldn't resist. It cracks me up!
  6. Hi, I have photographed a few weddings in Belize - I LOVE it there. Victoria House is my favorite spot for a beach wedding, and they are fabulous to work with. Belize is great if you are looking for a non AI atmoshphere. Here is a link to the last wedding I photographed in Belize which happened to be at Victoria House. Jill Higgins Photography Blog I have also photographed a wedding at Moon Palace - I will try to find the slideshow - Moon Palace was nice too. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them.

  8. Hi everyone, I just returned from another fabulous wedding. Although the bride isn't a member of the forum, I thought I would share the photos since Mexico is such a popular place with brides here. We all stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba. The grounds are gorgeous. Lots of winding paths.... The lobby (big building on right) and ballroom (on left)... The casitas - they have them facing the river and facing the jungle. The standard rooms... As far as the interior goes, I don't think there is any difference between the casitas and the standard rooms. Maybe the bathrooms are a little larger in the casitas, but I'm not positive. They do have casitas on the ocean too - including a presidential casita! This is the event lawn. They were setting up for a corporate event when I got this shot... Lots of pools... The infinity pool at the beach...(there was also one ovelooking the river) More pools... Pool for little kids...(they also had a fun slide in one of the other pools for bigger kids) [oops...I had too many images...had to delete one] The beach... There are three restaurants. This is the one by the beach.. If you would like to see wedding photos, there are lots on my blog: Jill Higgins Photography Blog The ceremony was at the bigger Catholic church downtown and the reception was in the ballroom at the Fairmont Mayakoba.
  9. Welcome to the forum! I have photographed weddings there so feel free to ask questions if you have any. I can't recommend ajua weddings enough - they are FABULOUS to work with. I was in Playa del Carmen for a wedding last week - I'll be posting those images on my blog tomorrow if you want to see them. The ceremony was at the big Catholic church in town and the reception was at the resort (Fairmont Mayakoba).
  10. I haven't photographed a wedding in Jamaica so I can't tell you much about that. I have been to Cancun (and Playa del Carmen). Cancun is pretty easy to get to and inexpensive.
  11. I just got home from Mexico at 2 a.m. this morning. We had a great trip. Elizabeth and Lindsey (her daughter) were fabulous. They were so much fun to work with. I'll be sure to post some pics when they are ready.

  13. You are so sweet - thank you! I heart all of you!
  14. I am leaving Thursday to go photograph a wedding in Playa del Carmen at the Fairmont Mayakoba. If anyone needs anything - let me know. I will be happy to check anything out there or whatever... Email me though at jill at jillhiggins dot com b/c I might not be checking in on the boards while I am gone - but I will check email.
  15. Thanks for voting everyone - I know my clients will be excited to see that people are voting for them. Thanks for making them feel special!
  16. I am having a big contest on my blog for past clients to win a trip at a luxury hotel that I recently posted about on here. (Ocean Lodge on St. Simons Island, GA) If you have time - stop by and vote for your favorite image. I know there is at least one destination bride from this forum - (that would be Catherine) - I'll have to check and see if any of the others are from here. I can't remember right now. Click here to vote.... -
  17. Thanks for the lists! I'm excited - it looks like it will be Elizabeth Medina. Yeah!!! I'm SO nervous about being on the other side of the camera.
  18. Hey, You might like Mata Chica or Journey's End on Ambergris Caye. As far as rustic goes, I could think of some really awesome rustic places that are on the mainland if you were interested in something non beachy. You could have an awesome wedding in the jungle or near a Mayan ruin and then head to the beach after the wedding. Flights to Belize are usually inexpensive. It is easy to fly out of ATL, Houston, or Miami.
  19. I just found this site - sooo cute! Beach Wedding Favors, Beach Party Favor Ideas
  20. I don't really know about those types of places in Mexico - but I could help you out with some Belize ideas if you are not locked in on your location.
  21. Thanks y'all! Sol did say that her associates were not available either. I didn't realize that Elizabeth Medina lived in Mexico - I emailed her a little earlier and am waiting to hear from her. Thanks SO much - I will be going down the list.
  22. I found this on wikipedia - sounds like you're good. "Riviera Maya" is a tourism district following the coastal Highway 400 which parallels the Caribbean coastline of Quintana Roo, Mexico. This district historically started at at the city of Playa del Carmen and ended at the village of Tulum, although the towns of Puerto Morelos situated to the north and between Playa del Carmen and Cancun as well as the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto situated 40 km to the south of Tulum are both currently being promoted as part of the Riviera Maya tourist corridor. The Riviera Maya was originally called the Cancun - Tulum corridor, but in 1999 it was renamed as the Riviera Maya with the aid of Lic. Miguel Ramón Martín Azueta who at the time was the mayor of the municipality of Solidaridad. The municipality of Solidaridad includes the whole of the official Riviera Maya from Playa del Carmen in the north and south to Tulum and extending to some 40 km inland with the border with the state of Yucatan."
  23. Okay, I thought I would try a different approach. I made a post to photographers earlier but might be better to direct a similar post to brides. I will be in Mexico to photograph a wedding, and my husband is going with me. We are going to extend our stay and take a vacation since he will be deploying soon. I would love to have some pictures taken of us while we are there. I emailed Sol Tamargo and they will be in the states while we are there. Have any of you found any other great local photographers? We will be at Playa del Carmen. Or ... do you have a photographer who will be in town for your wedding that might be interested? We are looking for someone to do it on July 12th, 13th, or 14th Anyway, if you know of anyone - could you post their information and I could check them out and see if I like their work?
  24. I have always thought I must be the only girl on the planet who is just not that into diamonds. They are boring to me...like red roses on Valentines Day. I would have killed my husband if he had spent a fortune on an engagement ring. He got me an [inexpensive] engagement ring b/c I felt like I had to do so to truly be engaged - but I would be just as happy with a cool, artsy wedding band only. And for the record - I've been married for 12 years and I adore my husband and love being married. I always wonder if people are really serious when they say to someone, "Wow - your ring is huge - your fiance/husband must really love you."
