Flowers are an integral part of your Wedding Day look, but they don't have to make or break your budget. Like every other facet of your Wedding celebration -- you have the ability to adjust your decor according to your taste and desired price point range. Here are a few bouquet photos (taken by yours truly) to give you a little inspiration (this is Part 3, click here to check out Part 1, and click here to check out Part 2) ... --- About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. The hours leading up to your wedding can be extremely stressful, but at the same time, those precious moments of preparation before you say "I Do," are also uniquely exciting and beautiful. As a wedding photographer, I can honestly say, these hours of preparation leading up to the ceremony often yield some of my most favorite images of the day. Besides the fact that I think I get to work with some of the sweetest and most beautiful brides and grooms (yep, shameless plug!), I know that prepping my clients for the "Getting Ready" shots I plan to take helps immensely in giving me the opportunity to take photos I know they will love and appreciate when they look back at their Wedding Day. Here are a few tips I share with my couples on ways you can help your wedding photographer take beautiful "Getting Ready" photos on your big day: 1) Get ready in a space that has plentiful window light: Whether you choose to get ready in a hotel room or in the bridal suite at your venue, choose a space that has a good amount of window light -- trust me, your photographer will thank you! Light is the most important factor for capturing beautiful photos -- whether it come in the form of natural light (sunlight) or artificial light (flash or video light). I happen to prefer natural light when it comes to Getting Ready portraits because it gives my images a clean, bright softness that my clients have come to love. A room with natural light coming from a large window source will also be what your makeup artist prefers to use as well. So keep this in mind when you're deciding where to prep and get dressed on your Wedding Day. 2) Clean and tidy up the area where you plan to get ready before your photographer arrives: I know on the Wedding Day the rush of getting hair and makeup done as well as making sure everyone has their dresses and the right accessories can often result in a bit of a tornado effect in the preparation room. And that's totally OK and understandable. But asking some of your bridesmaids to help tidy up the space before your photographer arrives will help your photographer move around freely in the area and also capture clean portraits without any clutter in the background. 3) Set aside the details you'd like your photographer to photograph: If you're one of those brides who's spent months carefully crafting your wedding day look, you'll definitely want your photographer to capture your beautiful details. Give your photographer a helping hand by putting aside these details so when he/she arrives, the items are easy to access and can quickly be photographed. That means doing the following: hanging your wedding dress on a nice hanger (wire hangers do not photograph well, custom hangers are perfect as well as a clean wooden or velvet hanger) putting aside your wedding ceremony and reception shoes gathering your jewelry and garter having all the rings in a box -- engagement ring and both wedding rings a clean invitation and envelope as well as any save the dates your bridal bouquet along with at least 1 bridesmaid bouquet 4) Have the people who are helping you put your wedding gown on (bridesmaids, mom, aunts, grandmothers, siblings) be ready and completely dressed: When it's time for you to put your wedding gown on, anyone helping you get dressed should be completely ready and dressed from head to toe. You will be picture-perfect once your wedding dress is on, and those surrounding you, should look their best too. Anyone helping you get ready on the Wedding Day should be prepared to be part of your "Getting Ready" photos and if you plan on having a wedding album, you will want them to look picture perfect too! 5) Give your photographer a good amount of time for "Getting Ready" photos: This is the most important tip -- because without time, you're not giving your photographer a chance to create the images you want. I realize that timelines can't always be stretched or changed due to venue restrictions or timeframes, but when you do have control of setting your timeline, allow your photographer ample time to work without stress or time crunches. Ideally, I like to begin shooting at least 1.5 to 2 hours before the ceremony to capture "Getting Ready" portraits. This gives me ample time to photograph details (at least 45 minutes), about 15-20 minutes for the bride to get dressed and receive any touch-ups, 15-20 minutes for bride portraits and another 15-20 minutes for the bride to take photos with her bridesmaids. If the couple plans to do a "First Look," then I like to begin shooting 2.5 to 3 hours before the ceremony begins to allow for the big reveal as well as romantic portraits. If you give your photographer time, he/she has a much better chance to deliver the images that will not only tell the story of your day, but also images inspired with creativity that you will love for years to come. * All photos posted in this article are credited to MarieSam Sanchez Photography -- a husband and wife destination wedding photography team. - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. Flowers are such a delicate and beautiful touch to any celebration. For some brides, floral decor eats up a huge chunk of their Wedding Day budget, but for others flowers are a small piece to the overall decor design. A wedding bouquet is a wonderful compliment to your wedding look and celebration, but it's important to remember that your bouquet doesn't necessarily need to break the bank to be beautiful. If sky's the limit when it comes to your flowers, then go for it! But if you've set aside a tight budget for flowers, just know you do have options and simplicity is the key. Here are a few bouquet photos (taken by yours truly) to give you a little inspiration (this is Part 2, click here to check out Part 1, and make sure to come back for Part 3!) ... - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. Well I finally couldn’t wait any longer to start my planning thread even though I’m still 9 months out from our wedding J I’ve seen so many great ideas on this forum and everyone is so helpful giving ideas. How we met: My FI and I met at university. In our degree of New Media there aren’t exactly a lot of… “normal” guys. It’s mostly the type that live in their mothers basements playing video games and are too scared to talk to girls haha. (No offence if that’s your type… I just prefer a guy who…isn’t that). Well anyways Kyle and one of his best friends lived together and were in every single class together which also happened to be almost all the same classes as me. We talked a bit but I wouldn’t even go as far as saying we were friends after first year of University. Once we got to second year we met properly at a Halloween party where well.. Kyle thought it would be fun to dress up as an office ninja and attack me (batgirl). Its amazing I’m marrying this guy haha. We became really good friends that year and once third year hit and we were back at classes in the fall we decided to make it official and start dating J The Proposal: The proposal all fell into my FI’s lap as I basically did all the hard work for him without even know it it I should start with the fact that I was on pinterest and noticed a couple rings I liked and thought I’d test the waters and show Kyle. He said “cool, send me a picture of them”. I was flabbergasted as marriage had been a taboo topic with him up until that point. Needless to say I took full advantage of the situation and sent him about 10 different rings I liked. I think I overwhelmed him and he said, tell you what, you have one day at the mall and one day only to show me as many rings as you like, and after that you aren’t allowed to even mention rings to me. I accepted the challenge and showed him lots of rings. Amazingly he was more of a ring shopper than I was. He made me go to all the stores a second time when I thought I was done haha. Ansyways, both Kyle and I are outdoorsy/ active people. We normally book a snowshoeing weekend in the mountains in the winter and go hiking lots in the summer. Last summer we didn’t seem to have as much time to go hiking so we decided one night over dinner that we would book a weekend getaway to the mountains to go hiking. (Apparently this worked out perfectly to his plans). I found a great deal for a suite in Canmore, Alberta and I booked it. Our friends had recently been on a hike and told us about it and so we knew where we were going to go hiking. (this was probably all about a month before we were actually going). So then, my parents live in Europe and told me that they were going to come visit at the end of September (unexpectedly). Again, this worked out perfectly for Kyle. He said he was going to send my dad a video asking for my hand in marriage and now he was going to be able to do this in person! Perfect…except I almost cancelled our trip knowing my parents would be visiting and I’d want to spend time with them. Luckily they convinced me to go anyways haha. So our October hiking trip arrived and I packed us hot soup (since it was the fall) for our lunch at the top of the mountains, really only packed hiking clothes and one cute top for dinner that night. Off we went. We hiked up to the top, taking pictures along the way and just having a great hike. We were eating our soup and then I must have put my water bottle lid on so tight I was really struggling to open it when kyle said need help? And I was stubborn and said no way I can do it, and looked up and he was down on one knee with a ring in hand. I was absolutely shocked and I have no idea how I didn’t see it coming. Me being so nervous and excited in the moment I said “thank you” to him when he said “will you marry me”. (Being that I grew up in Europe, Kyle always jokes that there are translation issues between us and he thinks I didn’t understand haha but I did!) He had champagne ready on the mountain for us and then told me that once we got down the mountain back to the hotel we were going for a couples massage and then to Banff for dinner J It was so amazing (except I didn’t really have clothes for the occasion haha). We decided to not go hiking the next day so that we could get back to the city early to tell our families and friends the amazing news! Everyone seemed to expect it except for me. I wasn’t expecting it till the winter when we would go on our snowshoeing trip haha. It was an amazing weekend to say the least. The Travel Agent: Now for the tricky planning…. We knew instantly that we wanted to do a destination wedding since my sister had done that 3 years prior and it was amazing! I also didn’t want to worry about any family drama or worry about feeding 100 people. So we contacted a couple travel agents and started getting some quotes. Everything was coming back way too much money unfortunately. We decided to work with one specific travel agent who at the time seemed on the ball and knew what she was doing. We finally agreed upon a resort in Los Cabos, Mexico. The resort was called Peublo Bonito Pacifica. Things started to get crazy and the resort wouldn’t answer my emails or book our wedding and when they did every little tiny thing was a big extra cost. I had asked my travel agent if booking the flights before confirming a date with the hotel was risky and she said no that’s fine and booked us. Needless to say the travel agent was wrong and became very useless very fast. She would have “family emergencies” every time I needed to get ahold of her or say she was going to call me back and never call me back. She was very rude to me and I was so upset as all this meant we had lost $400! I said enough is enough I’m looking elsewhere and I’m done with you. (FYI do not work with Expedia Cruise Ship Centers – they are so rude and unprofessional, even her manager was incredibly rude to me). So I had gone to the bridal expos/fairs in Calgary and met a few destination wedding travel agents during my whole fiasco and so I decided to call them all and see what their processes were and get more quotes again (this was probably our 4th or 5th round of quotes). I found one travel agent who answered all my questions so fast and got me quotes even faster! She was great! I decided to book with her and put my mind at rest! She is with Tier One Travel and I’d recommend her to any Calgary brides. The resort: We decided to go with the Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico! The resort looks amazing and fun with so much to do and see. Not going to lie, we only got a quote for this resort because my Fiancé found @@calgarybride2015 's review and we were sold! I think my favorite part is that we can book a private location for the wedding and the reception. My sister’s wedding was on the beach and she had a fat man in speedo’s watching her wedding and getting in the photos. I was not keen on having this. We are going to do the free wedding (at this point I just need one more double room booked for 7 days and we will get this package). We are going to upgrade to the private beach and palapa and then pick and choose all of our extras (flowers, ribbons, music, food, etc.). This option seemed like the best bang for our buck! Save the date: I’m a graphic designer and a few years ago I used to make wedding invitations for a living. This was probably the part of our wedding I’ve been most excited for! My favorite color is a teal color (teal, turquoise, aqua), so I knew what my color scheme would be (since my FI hated the idea of pink). I loved the idea of going with a beach theme since it will be on the beach after all. I ended up mainly going with a starfish theme! Super cute! My original idea for the save the dates was literally to put the date down and the resort name. But my TA informed me I only had 3 months to get as many guests as I could signed up for our group rate. Plan: changed. I decided to turn my 1 luggage tag save the dates into 2 luggage tags. I designed them up. Printed them off at staples (and they also did a decent job cutting them). Tied them with ribbon, addressed all our envelopes and sent them off. Oh! Almost forgot, I also made cute little starfish return address labels. I think that’s it for today. Apparently this planning thread business takes a lot of work haha. I will update soon on engagement photos, bridesmaids dresses, booking process, wedding invitations, wedding website, etc.

"Make sure your flowers are nice MarieSam," my dear mom would constantly say to me as I was planning my destination wedding. Because my mom is pretty much the mother of all greenthumbs, I knew telling her I had planned to use a real-touch bouquet would send her into a tailspin. But despite my mom's disapproval at the thought of me using an artificial bouquet, I did it anyways because it was affordable and would be a beautiful keepsake that would last beyond the Wedding Day. So yes, I rocked my bouquet down the aisle and on my Wedding Day my mom even mentioned how pretty my flowers were and how realistic they looked. *Note to self: mother doesn't always know best A wedding bouquet is a beautiful compliment to your wedding look and celebration, but if there's anything I've learned from being a bride, it's that your bouquet doesn't need to break the bank. If you've got money to burn, then by all means, go all out and create a bouquet that would send my mom to the moon But if you're on a tight budget, just remember that simplicity can be a beautiful thing too! Here are a few bouquet photos (taken by yours truly) to give you a little inspiration (this is just Part 1, stay tuned for Part 2) ... - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. Welcome to my planning thread! My fiance and I are getting married on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Beach Palace Resort in Cancun, Mexico. I love reading everyone else's ideas, so thought I'd post my own in case anyone was interested! Our Engagement My fiance and I got engaged on a beautiful day in September 2014 at our favorite spot in our home city! Choosing the Wedding Location We decided it would be extremely expensive for my fiance and I to have a wedding in our home city. We attended a friend's Cancun destination wedding in June 2014, and fell in love with the idea of a destination wedding! There was a lot of debate as far as wedding location. Original location ideas included Costa Rica (nixed because of lack of direct flights), Jamaica (nixed because not as many direct flight options), and Cancun. Cancun ended up winning because: 1. There are PLENTY of direct flight options! and 2. There are SO many hotels you're able to choose from, and 3. Because of the plentiful number of hotels, prices tended to be cheaper. Choosing the Hotel This one was surprisingly easy for us. My friend that got married in June 2014 had her wedding at Azul Fives in Riviera Maya. Her e-ring ended up being stolen while she was down there, and she had other issues that contributed to her "not wanting to ever stay at an Azul/Karisma hotel ever again". Plus, we didn't want to do the same exact wedding as her! The other options we were looking into One thing we KNEW we wanted was to get married on a rooftop (THE VIEWS!!) versus a beach. While at aforementioned friend's wedding last summer, we saw how crazy the beach can get, and knew we wanted something more private. This led us to looking at hotels with rooftop terraces - and our initial choice was Sandos Cancun. However, we started talking to my friend about her wedding, and she recommended either Moon Palace or Beach Palace - saying those were her backup options after Azul. Once we looked at Beach Palace's reviews and pictures on TripAdvisor, we were hooked! Moon Palace was second place, but Beach Palace seemed nicer. We immediately contacted the Beach Palace Wedding representatives from the website, and were assigned a wedding coordinator who helped us reserve a date and the locations for our ceremony and reception. We also worked with our coordinator to set up a Group Room block, so that we could get standard room rates and certain group benefits. Save the Dates Once we coordinated the Group Room block, we worked on our save-the-dates at the end of December 2014. We ended up doing our save-the-dates using one of the Walgreens cardstock templates online in order to save some cash! Along with the save-the-dates, we also sent all of our guests an email with additional details regarding location, booking, etc. The email contained both a link to our group room block, and also a link to our theknot.com wedding website. Invitations Invitations are the WORST. Don't get me wrong, they're VERY cute. But they're also extremely expensive and time-consuming. We ended up inviting about 75 couples (150 people), and the invitations we ordered off Etsy were freaking ADORABLE, but almost $1,000! That's not even including the postage stamps you need in order to mail them! These were mailed at the end of February 2015 if my memory serves me right. RSVP's As our RSVP's came in, we started to get a pretty good idea of who was coming and who wasn't. We asked that our guests RSVP by April 1st (as our room block needed to be closed by April 28th in order to avoid penalties). We wanted to leave a buffer of a few weeks since generally some people are late with RSVP's - and boy are we glad we did! We had to follow up with a few people closer to the deadline in order to make sure they booked through our block by the deadline. Some people booked outside of our block, which cost us dearly in missing out on certain benefits - but overall I'm more happy that they're able to come! The Dress and the Suit! I ordered my wedding dress in mid-November 2014. I believe it came in from the manufacturer sometime in March. I had my first fitting April 28, 2015 to try it on in my size for the first time and see what needed to be done as far as taking it in and hemming. Second fitting was on May 17th, and at this fitting the dress had been taken in and hemmed. During this second fitting we discussed taking it in more and how I wanted a 3 point bustle. The third fitting was May 26th. At this fitting we discussed taking it in even more, and how a 5 point bustle is more appropriate. More to come on the dress - I just suggest getting it earlier rather than later in the process! I also bought veil weights from Etsy since I'm worried about the wind blowing my veil too much in all the pictures! Accessories are TOM's ivory lace wedges, Marlosha (Etsy) pink and gold teardrop earrings, and a Nadri gold and silver teardrop bracelet. My fiance is wearing a light brown linen suit he purchased at Suit Up! (just kidding, it's called Suit Supply). Brown shoes, a brown belt, and a white shirt will accompany. Bridesmaids are wearing a Laundry Hibiscus (i.e. pink/purple) tulip maxi dress, with either white or nude shoes. I bought them Kate Spade multi-colored cluster earrings in pink/purple. Gold chain bracelets with amethyst will accompany. Groomsmen are wearing Brooks Brothers white linen short-sleeved dress shirts (un-tucked), and stone colored pants. Brown belt and shoes will accompany. Planning the Wedding As the wedding planning is still in process, I will just share my vision for the event and things I've purchased/organized along the way! Welcome to Beach Palace My lovely mother is going to organize welcome bags for each room. The welcome bags will include sunscreen, ibuprofen, a flip flop bottle opener, a "Get to Know the Guests" sheet, and an itinerary of the wedding events. I'm still toying with the idea of purchasing waterproof key card/ID holders. I think they'd be nice for people to not have to worry about getting their tip money wet at the pool bar! I've heard the Beach Palace wedding coordinator ("WC") will deliver the bags to each guest room for $3/bag. Not sure if we will do this, or just try to catch up with our guests each day they arrive. Night Out We would LOVE to do a night out on the town of Cancun with our guests on Friday, June 26th - two nights before the wedding! Rehearsal Dinner We will have 34 adults and 2 kids, and have booked the rehearsal dinner for 6 to 8pm on Saturday, June 27th - the night before the wedding. This will be on the Infinity Terrace and we will be having the Italian Buffet dinner option. The buffet is $55/person since we didn't have any resort promotion for the dinner. We are not using any sound system or additional lighting for this event. Morning of the Wedding My mother and I are getting our hair (only) done at the Beach Palace Salon at 10:30am. I've heard bridal hair takes almost 3 hours at the BP salon, so I wanted to get mine done early! I don't really wear makeup so I'm doing my own. Afterwards, my girl friends are going to do their own hair and makeup in my room while drinking mimosas (yum). Photographer We're using Dream Arts photography - the Beach Palace recommended vendor. We are doing 3 hours from 4 to 7pm, with a 15 minute mini-movie. We're doing our own "getting ready" and reception dancing photos. Ceremony The ceremony will be on the Sky Terrace at 4pm. Purchased the Metallic Sands ceremony package for decorations! Hoping to have regular chairs rather then the "pods". We are doing ring exchange and vow exchange in a symbolic ceremony. We are getting legally married upon our return back to the U.S. We are putting our ceremony programs in a basket (maybe from Crate & Barrel?) on a table as you walk in, and gluing the programs to a stick to turn them into fans since it will be quite warm out! After much debate on whether we use the BP officiant, or one of our guests, we decided on the BP officiant after hearing good things. One thing we want to make sure to do is have someone take a group picture of us and all our guests near the altar on the Sky Terrace! Cocktail Hour The cocktail hour is on the Sky Bar South from 5pm to 6pm. During this time, the wedding party will be doing photos on both the Sky Terrace and also at the beach. We ordered the Mexican appetizers for the rest of the guests enjoying the cocktail hour. Reception Ufffffff...so much info to list here! To start off, it's on the Palenque Terrace starting at 6pm! Entrance - we will have a basket of flip flops on a table for guests to take as dancing shoes. I ordered Navy Blue assorted size flip flops for the men and Lavender assorted size flip flops for the women from Dollar Tree. The basket will be the $29 fold-able bamboo basket from Crate & Barrel for luggage packing ease. On the table, there will also be everyone's table number assignments. We purchased Wilton ivory fold-able place cards. My fiance is going to tape washer to the inside of the cards to weight them down and combat the wind. Tables - 6 tables, with 6 people each. Using the Metallic Sands decoration package so we don't have to worry about much! We're printing the table numbers ourselves, and ordered some natural sea-shell table card holders from Etsy to display. Favors - At each table setting, there will be Mexican loteria matchboxes that we ordered on Etsy. Our favors also kind of include the flip flops and the glow sticks mentioned below. Lighting - We ordered necklace glow sticks from Amazon. The best man will be handing these out to guests as it gets dark. We also ordered Zuniga 4 column lighting with 2 string lights (via Beach Palace). Music - We ordered 2 speakers from JSAV (the Basic Package) and will be playing our iPod during the reception. Food/Drinks - Went with the BBQ buffet as it seems to be something that would appeal to everyone. We ordered a chocolate chantilly frosted cake. Possibly ordering additional champagne.

Words are powerful and for every relationship there is a great quote particularly fitting for that couple. Here are a few beautiful quotes about love to help inspire your Wedding celebration and perhaps even your Wedding vows. "In all the world, there is no heart for me like yours. In all the world, there is no love for you like mine." -- Maya Angelou "Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same." -- Emily Brontë "I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you. I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me. I love you for the part of me that you bring out." -- Roy Croft "Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable." -- Bruce Lee "You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams." -- Dr. Seuss "Your love comforts me like sunshine after the rain." -- William Shakespeare "So it's not gonna be easy. It's going to be really hard; we're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me ... every day." -- Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook "If I had a flower for every time I thought of you ... I could walk through my garden forever." -- Alfred Tennyson - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. I think one of the most fun aspects of planning your wedding is adding little personalized touches that make your celebration special and unique. For crafty brides this means going the do-it-yourself route also fondly known as being a DIY bride. Unfortunately, not everyone has got Martha Stewart skills running through their veins, but Etsy -- the mothership of all things DIY -- pretty much solves that problem Signage is a unique way to customize your wedding in simple yet fun way. Be it signs at the ceremony, or a fun sign at the reception -- handpainted or printed signs can add a colorful and festive touch to any celebration. And whether you chose to do it yourself or attain the services of a creative person on Etsy -- it can be a easy and affordable way to give your Wedding Day a little personal flair, and it's usually always epic photo material! Click here to view some fun Wedding signs that can be used on your Wedding Day! 7 Websites to Help You Plan the Wedding of Your Dreams
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
My reliance on the internet when it comes to handling every day life is astounding, but while planning my destination wedding it was even more apparent just how much I needed the internet to help guide me through the wedding planning process. Although every bride's journey and experience is different, I thought I should share a few of my favorite sites when it comes to planning The Wedding Day! -- Best Destination Wedding Forum: Well obviously this is number one. I don't really remember how I came upon this jewel of a site, but what I do know is that once I became a member, I was hooked. I logged into the BDW forum daily -- actually several times a day -- and collectively with all the great tips from other fellow brides, grooms and and vendors, I was able to craft what I consider my dream wedding. Fortunately, since then, BDW has grown and expanded to offer brides other insightful sections, such as: Wedding Tips, Resort Reviews and Vendor Reviews. I cannot stress enough how lucky you are to have found this site as you begin your journey as a destination wedding bride! -- Loverly: Inspiration and tips galore. I love this website because it offers so much, including wedding planning tools, free wedding websites and plenty of advice and tips. -- Style Me Pretty: What can I say? This website is just full of beautiful pictures that will leave you daydreaming about your I Do's. Chockful of visual inspiration, once you log on, you'll likely find yourself scrolling non-stop because everything is just so ... pretty -- Ruffled: It's pretty much the mother of all wedding blogs filled with real-life wedding inspiration and lots of stylish/trendy ideas. You can peruse through the DIY Projects section for tons of inspiration or even post a few weddings items for sale. This site has everything when it comes to weddings! -- Wedding Wire: It's a great resource for planning everything for your Wedding Day, but it's most known for it's massive venue/vendor guide. From venues to vendors, Wedding Wire listings are super helpful in offering up reviews and suggestions when planning your dream celebration. -- Destination I Do: Dedicated to destination weddings and honeymoons, this site is catered for brides and grooms like you. Hello dear brides First of all I want to thank many brides who helped me and supported me on my planning: Murmel, Girlinthecity,Calgarybride (Kim), repax !!! I gotta say to all of you "thanks so much" My name is Lina, our wedding was on April 10th, 2015 and I will do my very best to summarized our wedding planning and wedding day. It is really hard to shrink an entire year of ideas, planning and things in one post, but we will do my best A bit about me and my husband: I am originally born in Colombia and he is American-Irish. We met in 2011 after each of us ended a long relationship, he was previously engaged and I was in a relationship that was long enough and going endless. We met at work in our corporate jobs and the best man in my life was there,...my best friend. My hubby and myself lived together since 2013 Engagement: It was a regular day for me March 1, 2014. We did not celebrate Valentine's day because we had bad snow. Tim left me a note to scratch all plans and invited me to a winery for dinner to celebrate our postpone valentines...I smelled something was going on but I did not want to think or expect anything. I had plans to run errands that Saturday and all was changed. When we got to the winery, he had all set in a booked suite with roses arrangements and champagne Tim invited me to walk on the golf course and after a while told me he needed to tell me something! on his knees he proposed his love to me!! it was so emotional and I was so happy and the begging to the best day of my life! Visited in May these resorts: Dreams Tulum, Dreams Puerto Aventuras, Playacar, Moon Palace, Azul Beach, Azul Sensatori, Generations Riviera Maya, Grand Porto Real (Playa del Carmen) Most wanted: Dreams Tulum, Playacar and Sensatori. Which we selected: Azul Sensatori for the great reviews of Karisma chain and the location to go to Cancun and Playa. My first choice was Dreams Tulum but it was about 2 hours from the airport. I wish I knew before we booked: More options to do a off resort wedding and still gather a group in a resort (I did not know my options) Company used: Destination weddings...I recommend! Miami planning feedback: No comment. Now the planning started: Wedding colors: Coral and aqua blue (aka Tiffany blue) Save the date: We did the regular magnet stamps: invitations: we did passports in English and Spanish and two designs. If you want to see the inside please ask me and will show you it was lots of work because the template did not include anything for Sensatori and I had to search, proof read and translate for the Spanish passports. Tip: manage your budget and invitations is a way to cut costs. Do not go too fancy! Dress(es): This was such a crazy time for me!! It brought me tears and loss of sleep at night. I live in NJ and visited many stores here and in NY. I was like too demanding or basically I did not like anything. I ended spending more than I wanted because I ended with 3 dresses, but I was a happy bride on my wedding day. I had one dress that I never worn, another that I used for our catholic ceremony and another one for Mexico. PLUS 2 more dresses for the reception. I ended using only one ...yes crazy!! Note: I am selling my dresses (reception, wedding and bridal). you will see pics as I keep showing my planning. Tip: DO not let the bridal store convince you on the dress you are not 100%, they need to sell and you need to be in love with your dress. If you buy too early you will have second thoughts!!! I guarantee you thins one! A bridal store will tell you 8-6 months before the wedding...it is NOT true, I had stores contacting me 3 months and 2 months prior to the wedding. Bridal Shower dress: His family had a shower for me because my sister lives in Mexico. Ceremony: We had two ceremonies. One was the catholic here in NJ for our family only and the second in Mexico with families and friends. Bridesmaids dress: I had 6 (2 were his sisters) each paid for their dress and I chose one affordable at David's Tip: Try to avoid drama by not choosing his family members in your wedding party (if you do not feel like you want...just dont do it) Gifts for the bridesmaids: a Kimono robe (all blue and I was white), flip flops made by myself with the initial of their name on the button, a tank top with rhinestones made by myself "bridal entourage", a pair of barefoot sandals did not make myself, a set of jewelry to use on the wedding day and a necklace with each of their initials that said "I could not say I do without you" Flower Girl: some toys and the following to our niece. Mother of the groom and bride: basically the same as the bridesmaids and the handkerchief (the pic below is not mine just the message is what I chose), to my mom it was in Spanish because she does not speak English Father of the groom (my dad is deceased ): bottle of scotch (super expensive) Groomsmen: each had a customize gift from beau-coup.com and some alcohol (we shipped to them before we departed) Best Man: custom made sterling silver cuff-links with the shape of boxing gloves, because he loves boxing. Maid of Honor: the dress (I paid for it) and the same as each bridesmaid. more planning... Photographer: Sarani weddings (not Sarani Studio) yes she is more expensive. We have not received our pics yet, but will do soon! and will update with my professional photos. booked Sarani in May 2014 and did not look much because we loved her work when we visited her. Sarani is such a sweetheart and very professional, I am so happy we booked her and even though we dont have photos yet, I know we will be happy!! We also had video with Sarani. We paid the vendor fee and that included one vendor per day, not per person. Sarani came with 3 more people (shooter and assistant) all were 4. DJ: I booked in June 2014 DJ Doremixx with Ivan the main DJ and owner, I had paid deposits and basically planned all with Hugo and Ivan. Ivan was going to be my DJ, but in January 2015 I was advised by Karisma that I was not allowed to bring him or any other vendor because "policy" had changed. That was not true because I kept seeing Doremixx playing in 2015 at Karisma resorts, I never knew that the deal was but I was unable to bring Doremixx, I put tons of work and emails on that, even spoke with a Karisma director in Miami, I was not getting a "no" as an answer and basically lasted for a month. Ivan Gomez and Hugo Gomez (his brother) were communicating with me all the time and they were supportive. I had tears over a DJ because to me music is very important, I contacted many brides for help and it was so big to me. I am Latina and big into dancing salsa, merengue, etc..so I had all planned with Ivan about the type of music I wanted for the wedding day!!! We even considered to move the reception and ceremony over to Arenika, which is a beach club near Sensatori which is within walking distance and gorgeous, I contacted Weddings on the beach and Natalia was amazingly helpful!! unfortunaltely this brought lots of confusion to me and when we decided to move the wedding out of Sensatori we called Arenika and the place was booked. It was just no meant to be. We ended with the vendor at Sensatori, we got the DJ with MC and his name was Fernando. It was "all right", people had a good time, but I would have expected better, I know that you might think I was pre-set in my mind about the DJ and honesly I was not, that DJ is just ok! their equipment is SO OLD!!! but still I think of my wedding day as a magical day so I do not regret! Learned experience: you wont always win while planning, things wont be perfect but be happy and compromise! TTD: Yes, we hired Studio by the Ferry! Makeup and hair: I hired Michael and Martina from Beso Brides. No, they did not come inside the resort. After the headache of the DJ I did not want another. I booked a room in Puerto Morelos for $80 per night after taxes. I met with them there and it was the best I did, no regrets and I was okay leaving the resort, every bride is different and that was not a big thing to me. I wanted airbrush and at the resort I was not sure with their expertise. Martina and Michael prices were much more reasonable, I was on time back at the resort with my 3 bridesmaids and mothers. Bouquet flowers and button: Flowers for my bouquet: I knew I could not do touch or fake flowers and because I love expensive good looking things, I compromised with cheap flowers and I do not regret. I realized that nowadays ANY wedding gets so expensive, Karisma weddings are NOT cheap and all adds up quickly. BIGGEST CHALLENGE OF MY PLANNING: come up with welcome bags and reception decor!!! Welcome bags: I started reading and reading and making orders and money started being spent!! After 3 orders I realized I did not have a theme and all was all over the place with colors and designs. I wanted to read more and found several templates BUT each of them were for that specific bride. I needed to do something only for me that would call my name and his name all the time. I am good with designs and my brother also, so we sat down and decided that we would create an entire wedding theme with our colors and one exclusive design. Maybe the idea of the items were all over in every page and board I read, but the designs were only mine and I did my only designs. for my decor I wanted something more "beach relaxed", colorful and bright, I knew I did not want silvers or golds. Tip: decide what type of decor defines your personality and location. Do not start spending without a clear idea of what you want because it will go to waste!! My brother and I created and designed the entire logo, theme and all for our wedding decor and stationary. We printed, cut and finished all ourselves. It was lots of stress and work BUT it was worth the effort. Our designs came out really nice!!! I would LOVE to do this for another bride who wants to have a unique theme and logo like I did. I do not have templates, we used a design software for this. In Mexico: The Azul Sensatori wedding department is absolutely amazing with their work!!! They do this top notch and they are SO PROFESSIONAL!!! they amazed me and everyone! Welcome dinner: We did it at Spoons the night before the wedding, the dinner for the group is inside the restaurant, but made it very private where everyone knows this, they give you wedding menus and decorate nicely, no need of stress here. We had some Mexican souvenirs for the tables which ended working perfectly, because they had Mexican night as the theme night LOL. The bride is ready to walk down the isle: Ceremony: I selected Memorable moments, Vitange collection but had to go white because they had blue or orange that did not match my decor. I requested to have roses dyed with aqua blue and coral roses Wedding party: Over the rainbow was the song and the seating song while guests waited was "three little birds" Here comes the bride and ceremony: I walked with "I choose you" by Sara Each chair had a fan and a bubbles (we also customized this) then pronounced: Mrs and Ms. MORE TO COME SOON!!! COCKTAIL HOUR, RECEPTION AND CATAMARAN (I will post now because I don't want to lose all the work I did for hours) I have tons of pics to share for ideas!!

While the modern tradition of a Bride and Groom sharing a First Look before their ceremony continues to grow, it seems First Looks aren't just for the couple anymore. These days, the Bride sharing a special reveal moment with her parents is becoming just as popular. Once the bride has completed her finishing touches -- dress, shoes, jewelry and one final sweep of the hair and makeup, she then takes a special moment to meet her parents for the first time dressed as a bride. These photos are often filled with tons of emotion from the parents, after all, it signifies the starting point of giving their baby girl away. So if you plan to do a Parents' First Look, here are a few important things to keep in mind to make sure things go off without a hitch: Make sure you leave enough time in your Wedding Day preparations to do a First Look with your parents. Give yourself at least 15 minutes, because if tears are shed, you'll want time to do touch-ups. Pick a location that will give you privacy for this special moment. To save time, consider the room where you are getting ready for the day so you don't have to worry about traveling anywhere. Make sure you give your photographer a head's up that you'd like to do a Parents' First Look. Your photographer will appreciate being able to plan for this moment ahead of time to ensure he/she is standing in the best location with the best light for the big reveal. Parents' First Looks aren't just limited to the Bride. They can be done with the Groom and his parents as well. Mom and Dad would love to see their son before he walks down the aisle, it may also be a good time for Mom to pin the boutonnière on her son as well. Just remember all the pointers above! Did you do a Parents' First Look? What was your experience like? - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. Can't decide when to have your wedding photographer begin shooting on the Wedding Day? Here are four reasons why your photographer should start shooting during the "Getting Ready" portion of your Big Day. -- Document the Details: If you're like most brides, you've spent tons of time carefully picking out the little details that will make your wedding look picture perfect. The bouquet, the shoes, the hair/makeup look, the veil, the jewelry, the garter, even the undergarments under that perfect dress. When you have your photographer present during the 'Getting Ready' portion of your Wedding Day, he/she will be able to capture all the beautiful details that make you a vision to behold. Collect all your details and give your photographer enough time to photograph these things one by one. -- Capture the Excitement and Anticipation: There is honestly nothing like the electricity in the air when the bride and groom are getting ready on their Wedding Day. Emotions range from excitement, nervousness, anticipation and tons of emotion. And because you're so "in the moment," you often forget the little things that happen in between the rush of getting ready -- like the tears, the laughter and the incredibly touching moments that make the day so special. Having your photographer there to capture it all is a great way to relive and remember all the emotions. Some of my favorite moments as a photographer take place during this time of day because feelings are running so high. After all, it is truly your last few moments thinking as a singular person -- after the Wedding Day mostly everything becomes "we." -- See What Your Sweetheart Was Up To: It's pretty fun to be able to see what your soon-to-be-spouse was up to on the Wedding Day. Yes, you could very easily call them up or send a barrage of text messages back and forth. But there's nothing quite like seeing your sweetheart's Wedding Day shenanigans in photos! -- Remember Your Wedding Day Story as a Whole: If there's any advice I give to my brides when it comes to the Wedding Day, it's to enjoy every moment on your Big Day because it will go by in a blink. All those months and hours of wedding prep culminate into one day. And trust me when I say, that day will pass faster than you want it to. With adrenaline and excitement running so high, the events of the day will fly by and before you know it, the celebration of your life is over. I cannot emphasize enough how much you will love having photos that capture the highlights of your day from beginning to end. It's a complete look at your Wedding Day story, and I promise you, you will cherish those photos for a long time! - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. "Don't just do a regular First Dance, that's so booooorrrrrriiinggggg!" Yes that's what my own mother told me as we were planning our Wedding. She urged, no actually pretty much begged, that we do something fun to surprise our guests. Well, little did she know we had already been planning to do a surprise dance, but in order for it to be a true surprise, I had to keep it a secret from her too. So instead, I did my best to make her believe a surprise dance was just too time consuming to plan and I just didn't have time for it. Let me tell you -- mama was disappointed LOL. But lo and behold, because we flew into Mexico a week before our wedding, we were able to spend a few nights choreographing and practicing our first dance surprise in our room when everyone was asleep (we stayed in a villa property that housed 30 members of our family). My husband and teenage daughter even spent about an hour in the pool teaching me how to Dougie (hahahaha, I'm serious!). And guess what, when the time came to do our first dance, I remember seeing my mom at the corner of my eye kinda roll her eyes and pout in her seat because according to her, we were just "so booooorrrriinnnnggggg." But when our slow dance music cut into some booty shaking music and we broke out into our routine, all of our guests went wild -- including mama, she was probably cheering the loudest. Yes, we gave them a show and it was pretty darn awesome to see everyone cheering and giving us a standing ovation. I say all this because if you're contemplating the idea of doing a surprise First Dance -- JUST DO IT. It will honestly be the best gift you can give your guests and well, the photos and video will be priceless for decades to come! Click here to see some surprise first dance inspiration on YouTube! Wedding Vows -- they are the words that will seal the deal on your Big Day, and the words your sweetheart will have etched in his/her heart when he/she thinks about the day you shared I Dos. So it's only fitting that your wedding vows be written in a special place aside from just a simple scrap of paper you found in the hotel room the night before your Wedding Day Right? A few months ago I came across a ton of little wedding vow books on Etsy and absolutely fell in love with the idea of having a set of His & Hers Wedding Vow books. What a perfect gift for an engagement party or bridal shower! And best of all, what a wonderful way to preserve your vows after the Big Day has passed. Click here to view some incredibly cute Wedding Vow book options in every style, size and color to fit your taste! * Wedding Finds is a BDW feature that will highlight special little finds or ideas that may help you along during your wedding planning journey. Part 2: Ways to Save When Planning Your Destination Wedding
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
When people ask me why I decided to get married in Akumal, all I have to do is show them a photo of the beach I got married on and that pretty much wraps up that conversation. One of the best things about having a destination wedding is being able to share your little slice of paradise with your guests. So when it comes to finding ways to save while you're planning your destination wedding, it can be summed up in three little words: KEEP IT SIMPLE. Yes, I'm talking to you extreme detail bride. You who wants to match your flower colors to the exact hue of your reception decor and centerpieces ... and shoes for that matter. (Full disclosure: I was that bride. Yep, me the extreme detail oriented bride ) All that said, here are a few ways you can cut down on the costs of planning a destination wedding. Use all or some of these ideas, but most of all, choose what works best for you. And if you have any other suggestions to give, please share them!!! -- Cut Back on Decor: I cannot emphasize enough the need to remember that your destination location is going to be epic. A sight worthy of traveling hundreds/thousands of miles for. A beautiful location worthy of a vacation, but so amazing it warrants being the place you say your I Dos. If you're getting married outdoors -- especially on the beach -- you don't need to deck out each corner with decor. Save those pennies by letting the scenery speak for itself. -- Keep Your Flowers Simple: This ties in with the tip above. Choose flowers that are local to the area so they are bountiful and easily accessible, helping to cut down on costs. You may also want to consider using artificial flowers for bouquets and boutonnieres that you can purchase at home and bring with you. Then, double purpose those bouquets by popping them into vases on your reception tables to serve as centerpieces. Flowers are beautiful ways to add color to your ceremony and reception, but you don't need much to impress. Remember, keep it simple! -- Serve a Simple Wedding Cake: If food is your thing, feed your guests well! But after serving them a delicious meal, think about keeping your Wedding Cake simple. Wedding cakes can be elaborate and fancy, but more details usually means a higher expense. If you want a beautiful cake for photos, consider a small decorated cake for you and your hubby to cut for photos. But then serve guests with a simply frosted cake without all the fancy details. Cake is delicious with or without the pretty decor -- trust me, I have the thighs to prove it Check back soon for the next installment of Ways to Save! - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. Part 1: Ways to Save When Planning Your Destination Wedding
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
Let's face it. Weddings are expensive! And when you factor in the costs of travel/lodging destination weddings can be REALLY expensive. But having been married for close to six years now after having an epic destination wedding in Akumal, Mexico, I can tell you that had I opted for a local wedding here in Southern California, the wedding bill probably would have been triple what was spent in Mexico. And I wouldn't have glorious beach photos to go with it All that said, here are a few ways you can cut down on the costs of planning a destination wedding. Use all or some of these ideas, but most of all, choose what works best for you. And if you have any other suggestions to give, please share them in the comments section!!! -- Consider Time of Year: If you aren't dead set on a particular wedding date, consider the fluctuating costs of airfare/lodging based on the time of year. With a little research, you'll soon find that picking the right time of year (the low travel season) can save you hundreds, if not thousands, on travel and accommodations. -- Research Resort/Wedding Deals: With destination weddings becoming more and more popular, resorts in popular areas are offering a lot more promotions and discounts/deals to draw in potential brides and grooms. Reach out to a travel agent and see if they have the scoop on any awesome travel promotions. The official travel agency for the BDW wedding forum, Wright Travel Agency, is constantly in the loop when it comes to incredible deals for destination wedding couples. And guess what, when you turn to their expertise and book your travel plans through Wright Travel, it doesn't cost you anything extra, but you will certainly rack up on the savings! (Click here for a list of travel promotions and deals posted in the BDW forum). -- Cut the DJ, Use an iPod: If having a great DJ isn't on your "Must Have" list, then think about using an iPod programmed with your favorite songs instead. Yes it will take some time to load up an awesome playlist and you'll need to confirm with your reception venue that they have the equipment to play your iPod, but if you're willing to do the work ahead of time, it can really cut back on the costs. Check back soon for the next installment of Ways to Save! - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. Do you believe in wedding superstitions? If so, then you're probably scampering for something blue to make sure your marriage is blessed with lots of good luck. Here are a few blue-inspired ideas that will have you strolling down the aisle with all the luck you'll need on the Big Day! 1. Blue Flowers: Sprinkle some blue hues in your bouquet. It gives you the perfect touch of color to ensure a life of happiness with your sweetheart. 2. Blue Jewelry: If you think blue jewels or stones on your necklace or bracelet are a bit too much, consider an anklet or maybe a beautiful ring. Jewelry is the perfect way to meet your blue quota on the Wedding Day! 3. Blue Shoes: My personal fave! As a photographer, I love seeing that pop of blue shoes peeking out from the bottom of a bride's dress. And with so many online shoe retailers, you can scour the internet for the perfect pair of blue hues for your feet. 4. Blue Bouquet Charm: These charms are a cute little accent for your Wedding bouquet. And it's a perfect little keepsake that you can keep locked up in a jewelry box or perhaps use as a charm on a bracelet or necklace for years to come. 5. Blue Garter or Undergarments: Be discreet with your something blue and opt for a little blue on your bridal garter or perhaps on your bra or panties. It's a fun way to get that blue touch but also a sexy little surprise for your new husband to discover on your Wedding night! - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. You will soon be able to get married at sea on Norwegian Cruise Line starting this fall. The legal ceremonies at sea, which will be performed by the ship’s captain, are available on Norwegian Breakaway, Getaway, and Escape, according to company President and COO Andy Stuart. The company had initially offered legal wedding ceremonies only while the ship is docked in its embarkation port or in various destinations. All NCL weddings include a wedding planner and on-site coordinator. Legal same-sex ceremonies are also available at destinations where they are legally recognized. With starting prices at $2,199, the new wedding package includes the ceremony, bouquet and boutonniere, cake, champagne toast, bistro dinner for two, three bottles of wine, chocolate-covered strawberries, canapés delivered to stateroom, priority tendering and debarkation, and one hour of photography services, according to TravelPulse.com. Packages for onboard symbolic ceremonies conducted during days at sea are priced from $1,799 and includes the ceremony, bouquet of 12 ivory roses and matching boutonniere, pre-recorded music, six-inch cake, bottle of sparkling wine, champagne toast, an 8x10 photograph in engraved frame, keepsake certificate, and canapés and chocolate-covered strawberries delivered to stateroom, the website added. We tossed around the idea back and forth -- do we do a money dance at our wedding or not? Ironically it was my parents and my aunts and uncles who strongly said, "Yes, it's a tradition!" My family urged me that it was a custom at Filipino weddings. Of course, my hubby-to-be didn't balk at the thought of being pinned with bills by our guests. You get decorated with bills just for dancing with your guests? Heck yeah, he was all for it LOL. But there was always a feeling of guilt when we thought about the money that our guests were already spending (travel, lodging, vacation expenses, etc.) just to be a part of our special celebration. (By the way, I've dubbed these guilty feelings as "Destination Wedding Expense Guilt" aka DWEG syndrome -- it exists I tell you in the minds of brides and grooms, the struggle is real!) In the end, we decided to go ahead and do the money dance. But guess what? When it came down to the night of our wedding reception, we didn't do it. Why? Not because we let DWEG get to us, but rather, we were having so much fun just enjoying the night, we nixed a lot of wedding traditions -- no bouquet toss, no garter toss and no money dance. Instead we danced, drank and celebrated the night away. And ... IT. WAS. AWESOME! I say all this because sometimes we stress over every little detail that comes with the Wedding Day. And in the end, I promise you, none of it really even matters. What is ultimately important is that you celebrate the day and fill it with love, laughter and moments you'll always remember. Love your Wedding Day and enjoy it to the fullest -- this is the only tradition that truly matters Are you planning to do a Money Dance at your wedding? - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. 5 Wedding Cake Alternatives You & Your Guests Will Love
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in Planning
I cannot tell a lie, one of my favorite parts of being a bride was the cake tasting. Full disclosure: I am a certified cake addict, so yeahhhh, there's that. Is a Wedding Cake just not in your budget? Or perhaps cake just doesn't make your world go round like it does for me? No worries Here are some dessert ideas that you'll guests will love just as much as you do: 1) The Donut Cake: Donuts aren't just for early mornings anymore. With donut shops offering flavors galore, your guests will enjoy every delicious crumb of an assortment of donut delights. And don't forget the bride & groom donut cake topper! 2) The Cookie Cake: Pile your favorite cookies high and maybe offer some milk to go with that. Oreos are easy to stack up and best of all, they're super affordable so you'll be saving a ton of money with this cake alternative. And honestly, who doesn't love the sweet cream in the middle of of an Oreo? 3) The Cupcake Tower: Can't decide on the flavor of your cake? Indulge in some variety with a cupcake tower. With this nifty alternative, you'll still have the wedding cake taste and feel but with a whole lot of variety, and you can also offer these up as to-go gifts for your guests! 4) Mini Pies: There are cake people, and there are pie people. If pie is the apple of your eye, how about a variety of pies displayed beautifully on your dessert table? Your guests will love a sweet slice of pie to end the night. Or if you'd like to splurge a little, how about a mini pie for each person? 5) Cake Pop Cake: Cake pops will allow your guests to take their treat on the move and never miss a beat on the dance floor. Wouldn't cake pops designed with your wedding colors in mind look amazing? Or how about an array of different colored cake pops to make your dessert table sing with color? - - - About me: I am a former BDW Bride AKA as MarieSam and was addicted to this forum as I planned my own wedding in 2009. 249 till Punta Cana, 254 til the wedding day I’m going to start my Planning thread now...a tad bit early but I figure it will keep me on track...and help me pick up on things I’m forgetting! How we met: We went to same university, took the same classes but never met until years later when we both went back to school for the same program at collage. We both had long term significant others when we started school however just before the last of the 2nd term started we both happened to be single for the first time in a long time. He asked me out for Coffee and the rest is History! That was April 2006. Some Weird and not so Weird Facts About us: We are the same age...I’m exactly 1 month older We are both from Newfoundland Canada, but from total opposite ends of the Island (I’m North and he’s South) We are huge Blue Jays Fans We have lived together for 8 of our 9 years together. We love looking for beach glass in the summer We love camping, Fishing, Ice Fishing, We both had the same Wayne Gretzky Barbie Doll (action figure if you ask my FI) when we were little. Our Song is “Hot Legs” by Rod Stewart, and it’s a long story as to why We have the same Favorite color – Bright cobalt Blue We both love peanut butter on our French toast. We have two cats...sisters from the same litter “Chewy” the black one and “Ditto” the white one. The Proposal: We have always considered April Fools our Anniversary and so on our 7th anniversary I woke him up super early and gave him his card. My card had a super mushy and heartfelt letter inside, because we had gone through our first and only (so far...fingers crossed...lol) “Rough Patch” just a few months previous and I had wanted to tell him how I felt. He got all emotional (which he does not do) and started blabbering on about how lucky we are and how we are going to staying together forever and have babies and get old. He told me we wanted to marry me. Now I went to work like I normally would...and I just assumed he was talking shit because I had woke him up REALLY early and hit him with that letter before his coffee! Haha! That afternoon he picked me up from work that afternoon but instead of going home we went to a jewellery store and he told me to pick out a ring because he meant every word he had said in the morning. So not a typical planned proposal story...but it’s our story and I love it. The Plan: So my FI is not keen on weddings in general, he has severe phobia of talking in front of people...so for him the smaller the wedding the better. My FI was also what you call an “Accident”, His parents came home from a holiday with a surprise...ha...so his brothers and sisters are my Parents age and his mom and dad are more like my grandparents age...so Needless to say even though we are both Newfoundlanders we had totally different up bringing! His dream wedding would be just him and I and maybe our parents at city hall...that’s it! But me on the other hand I LOVE weddings! My mom owned a craft store, where I spent all my time! It was a very small town so our craft store also sold wedding supplies, wedding magazines...and my mom made wedding dresses. So let’s just say I’ve been thinking about my wedding for a very LONG long long time. I had multiple Pinterest wedding boards for many years now... before Pinterest was even popular! I also love hanging out with all my family, aunts, uncles, cousins...and I get terribly homesick, there is no better smell than ocean air...I’m a sook! My Dream wedding be a giant wedding at home in my small town with everyone I know...all of our family, friends, extended family, outside near the ocean...lots of dancing, music, food drinks, speeches...I love the speeches...lol...obviously this was not going to fly. We had a limited budget because we are paying for the wedding ourselves, with just a little help...my Parents offered to give us the same amount that they paid for their wedding when they got married almost 40years ago ($5000 ), that was actually a HUGE help...just about doubled our budget! We knew a Toronto wedding was out of the question...way too expensive...and I needed to be near the ocean! I wanted to invite all my Family but my FI wanted something much smaller. We thought a destination wedding would be perfect! Ocean...Check! Could invite a ton of people on a small budget (this is before we realised you still pay by the person)...Check! Nice weather...Check! Spend a whole week with the people we love and miss....Check! People who weren’t totally close to you probably would not go....Check! The Resort: We knew where immediately...The Grand Palladium in Punta Cana! We had gone there for our first Vacation together right after graduation...we had an awesome time! Since we had been there before it was a bit more comforting to me...I wouldn’t want to take everyone I love to a place new place that I know nothing about and could be awful! I looked up the Wedding Packages...they seemed reasonable; this was also before I knew about extras. I looked up the flights on a bunch of different carriers...again seemed reasonable. It was Family Friendly too which was great since a lot of our friends have kids now. This resort is huge...I wanted to make sure that people who didn't want to spend more money on excursions would not get bored at the resort. There are tons of restaurants & Bars, daily activities...so there is something for everyone! In the end the wedding package end up being a lot more than I thought, and so did the All-inclusive package, but still somewhat manageable with our budget. I am happy with my Resort pick so far...my WC is great so far, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about her from the other brides on here so that’s great. If I had my time back though, I would have done a little more research on this resort and others...my bad. The Date: No question... April Fools 2015! It was the day of our first date. It was the day we got engaged. April is a good time to go to Punta Cana! And who gets married on April Fools on Wednesday! We do! So I did what the resort website said and I emailed the resort and put down my deposit before I sorted my travel just to make sure the date was available...the date was ours! The Fall-Out: This is where the plan went to shit! Lol! First of all we have to tell everyone. I had prepared myself for the “why don’t you just come home and get married...” plea from friends and family. Which totally happened, and I felt guilty as heck even though I knew it was coming, but this was our compromise so I stuck to it. Every time I spoke to my Nan I would feel guilty and cry...she used every guilt trick in the book...god I love her! Lol! But I stuck to my guns! Next, get a TA and a travel package. For the US ladies, in Canada we get an All-Inclusive package at a group rate, this covers Flight down and back, airport transfers, and your all inclusive stay at the resort...and most of the time everyone travels together, you also get bonus’ like 11th person to book gets a free package...etc. I went to a wedding show and got several TA names and Destination Wedding Travel agency contacts. I emailed, and no one really responded...and one people who did were very pushy and abrasive wanted money right away to secure their “services”...Alarm Bells! So I got the name of Travel Agent from one of the lovely ladies here on BDW forum. She was great at first but before we got things settled and booked she disappeared! While the TA was MIA a few other personal things happened from Jun to Aug ...My FI got into small car accident...no one was hurt, but it ate into our budget. My Mom got laid off so she was unsure if they could honour their offer to help with the budget. Our close Friend / Neighbour got pancreatic cancer and passed away, My FI’s Sister in California got a very aggressive liver cancer and passed away a very short time thereafter. My Nan was also diagnosed with bone cancer...head to toe. I had started having anxiety and small panic attacks...which totally freaked me out because I am so normally laidback; my FI is usually the high strung one. When the fog cleared the wedding date was now too close, we had no travel, no TA, no plans, no money, the whole family was still kind of stressed...so we decided to postpone. What’s another year if we’ve been together this long. The New Date: We decided to pick a new date since April turned out to be pretty expensive because it was high season. We wanted to get married in 2015 and my FI’s Work does not allow vacay in December so we picked the last week of November. I emailed the resort and I was able to switch my wedding date to Nov 25th and keep my deposit! My New TA: I decided I’ve had enough of calling and emailing...I wanted someone I could talk to face to face, who couldn’t ignore me or disappear! I walked into the flight centre next to my work and got the manager. She has been awesome! We have had so much trouble with our travel package it has been unbelievable! She has even said she’s never seen anything like it! But she fought with the airline for me and got me everything they had promised! The Guaranteed price booking deadline has since passed and we have 44 people, so far. Now to wait til Sept when final payments are due. The Legal Wedding: We decided to have our legal wedding in Newfoundland in July. Just us, our Parents, and my Nan’s. My two Nans will be our witness’. Mark Parents are pretty old and after all the stress of the past summer their health was up and down so we decided that this would be a good back up in case something were to happen and they could not make the trip. Also I really wanted my Nan to be a part of my wedding, but since her diagnoses she was told not to travel out of country and she cannot get travel insurance. Side note about my Nan...she is the strongest woman I know...I swear she lives on pure spite! She is currently 87...has had breast cancer twice and now full on bone cancer! Never took a treatment of any kind and is still going strong. She lives alone, cooks & bakes, makes bread, Gardens both flowers and vegetables, shovels her driveway, packs up wood for her furnace, she still drives (very well I might add) and takes her neighbours who don’t have a car 20min to the nearest town for Dr apts. She is so AWESOME! And I can’t imagine my day without her. We are unsure about the details exactly yet...but we soon have to figure that out...We will use the Punta Cana Wedding date as our Anniversary Date and we are keeping the legal wedding a secret, although I'm sure no one will care. Coming Soon...The Dress...Shoes...Jewellery...and other fun inspirations

One of the decisions brides often make early in the planning process is choosing their wedding colors. After all, one's color palette plays a huge role in setting the tone of a wedding in terms of attire and decor. Back when I was planning my wedding -- almost 6 years ago -- I remember stopping by Home Depot's paint section and perusing through the color swatches. After basically camping out in the paint section for hours and drowning in swatches, my sweetheart and I chose a very earthy combo of ivory, canary, taupe, terra cotta and accents of red for our Wedding. Luckily couples today can save a trip to the paint section and opt for one of several online tools to create and test color combos to see what works best for their Big Day. Here are a few popular websites that can help you create the perfect palette for your Wedding Day. I'm new to this site so hope I'm posting in the right forum. We've booked our wedding for April 2016 at the Now Sapphire. We've recently booked a last minute trip to a nearby resort and have arranged to meet our wedding coordinator at Now Sapphire for a site visit. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for what I should ask or review while I'm there? We're already booked, so it's not a matter of choosing the resort. I was thinking covering the following topics: Ceremony & reception sites (and alternate sites in case we don't end up liking the ones we've selected or in case we need a back up due to weather) A tour of the property, including: pools, beach, restaurants, bars, kids club and a few different types of guest rooms Possible food tasting? I will also ask if there are any weddings taking place that day so I might be able to see the set up And I will take loads of photos! Any other suggestions? It seems like I have answers to a lot of my other questions and/or they can easily be covered by email or phone in the next year. Since we don't want to spend all of our vacation time doing wedding planning, I'm not planning to meet with outside vendors. I don't plan on adding a lot of extras to the wedding package - maybe additional flowers and minimal additional decor for the reception - so hopefully this is not a big deal. Appreciate any tips! Thanks, Erin
