  1. We are going on an Apple charter flight. you get 2 bags free, but I could fill those with just clothes, make-up and accessories for the week! lol. Guess I will be downgrading what I'm taking with me. Not sure where all of my guests are booking flights, but hopefully people can help take stuff down. I know it's completely impossible to get the free wedding at ME. I'ts completely crazy. I asked and they do not simply total all the nights from all your guests. They require 15 rooms to be booked for 7 nights each!
  2. In the end I went with the ME for a couple reasons. The room we can afford at the ME is a much nicer room than the one we could afford at Dreams. We are staying the the Elegance Club which is a major seller for me because it's an adults only section of the hotel. Initially we wanted to stay at an adults only resort, but we didn't want to limit guests with children so the ME Elegance Club works perfect. I've read reviews about the grounds of both resorts and liked what I was hearing about ME a little bit better. When comparing the wedding packages Dreams does come with the private reception, but the add ons for wait staff/bartenders/set-up fees was crazy so ME is cheaper for us. I'm sure which ever resort you decide to go with will be perfect for you! Good luck and Congrats!!!
  3. They do not provide the IPOD, but you can bring any IPOD and they can hook it up to the sound system. They do provide the sound system for the ceremony for free, but they charge $250 to rent it for a private reception. If you don't have your own music they will provide music at no charge for the ceremony. They have the bridal march, Cannon in D, and Ave Maria. I know, I can't believe they charge $100 to rent the isle runner! I've found them online too, but unsure about the length. I'm also concerned about taking it with us. We are already taking soo much for decorations and stuff. I don't want to have to pay extra for luggage. I also got silk flower petals for the isle, so we may just stick with that.
  4. The prices are crazy ridiculous! My DH and I are getting married there June 29, 2011. We are having the semi-private dinner at Asadito (free for up to 60 guests). After that we rented the wet bar and sound system ($550 for both). We are bringing our IPOD and playing our own music. We are going to pay $5 pp/hr for beer/wine/champagne/sodas.
  5. For our favors I really want to do somthing "Dominican" I'm thinking about buying some of the faceless dominican dolls online. I think they are really pretty and I think they are something our guests will keep.
  6. Check out this website: http://prestige-limousine-service.com/ My fiance and I are getting married at the Elegance. We looked at a few options from here and they seem fairly resonable.
  7. A couple years back my cousin was getting married about 7 hours away in North Carolina. After my aunt told me I was the guest book attendant (no asking involved) and tell my brother he was the usher we didn't hear anything else about it. We weren't given any information about where to go or what to do, or even what to wear! At the rehearsal dinner my aunt told my brother that a groomsman couldn't make it and that he would be the fill in! Again no one was told what time to be there, where to go or what to do. I wasn't taking it upon myself to show up early when my cousin didn't even ask me to be there, my aunt told me to. I showed up about 15 minutes before the wedding and stood by the guest book looking like a complete idiot. All of the rest of my family kept laughing and taking my pic (it really was funny)! I learned that I will make sure everyone involved knows exactly what to do so they don't feel lost. I would never have my mom tell people they will be in my wedding and what their role is. If you aren't grown up enough to do this yourself, you shouldn't be getting married. At the rehearsal dinner the bride and groom didn't even get up to thank everyone for comming. We saw the grooms father go up to them and let them know they should say something, when they refused he felt bad so he got up and thanked everyone for him. It was embarassing! Word to the wise... Let people involved in the wedding know whats going on. AND be gracious enough to thank the people traveling for YOU!! lots of venting, thanks for listening!!!
  8. I'm not struggling with the issue b/c my fiance and I do drink socially. However, I absolutely think that people place WAY too much emphasis on the alcohol at weddings. This isn't a huge keg party from our college days, this is a commitment we are making between each other and God. I think when people worry too much about not being able to drink at someone else's wedding, they take away from the feeling of the evening. Any way you look at it, this is YOUR day and YOU decide. If anyone there can't get through a couple hours without alcohol, like you said it's an AI resort so they can leave and get drunk if that's their priority. I say kudos to you and your fiance for this wise decision!
  9. My fiance and I are getting married June 29, 2011 at ME. We chose this resort instead of the Colonial because of the Elegance Club. We like the idea of the seclusion, but didn't want to do an adults only resort b/c of some of our guests with children. The ME was opened in 2008 so it's newer. Other than that I really don't think there are many differences. They do not share privlages at restaurants (except maybe the main buffets) but guests of both resorts can attend a wedding at either one without having to buy a day pass. Hope this helps!
  10. We are doing our own rehersal the night before. We are just walking through things ourselves and have arranged to have dinner for all of our guests in one of the resort restaurants. I think it's a great idea, just to have something "planned" that everyone can participate in. A lot of our guests are arriving to the resort before us, so this will be our opportunity to greet everyone!
  11. When my cousin was planning her wedding. I was TOLD that I would be the guest book attendant and my brother was TOLD he would be an usher. At the rehersal dinner my brother was TOLD that one of the groomsmen couldn't make it and that he would be the fill-in! Best of all is that my Aunt was the one to tell us, not the bride or groom! I cannot believe the ignorance of some people. I definately would NOT be paying for anything extra. I realize that people get stressed and proper etiquette is put on the back burner, but it sounds to me like your BFF is being pretty selfish. In my opinion this is a BIG JOKE!
  12. I love the hair pins.. Have you sold them yet?!?!
  13. My FH and I are getting married June 29, 2011 at Majestic Elegance. Won't be there the same time, but I would LOVE to buy/borrow both the blue and turquoise sashes! Thanks
  14. We have decided to stick with ME. We are still having the semi-private dinner, but are going to rent the Wet Bar and sound system for three hours after that for $550. It's $5pp/hr for beer, wine, champagne, and sodas so that's what we are going to do. After comparing the two resorts, I think we will be much happier at the ME. The resort looks nicer, and we can afford a better room here too. Thanks for your help!
  15. I'm not so much worried about the resorts. I think they will do a good job keeping it away from there as they don't want to lose business. My main concern is the airport. I really don't want this to be a problem... I really don't think anyone would get sick (just don't drink the water) but I am worried that people won't come (especially those with children)!
  16. Okay, I know I'm probably out of my mind for even allowing myself to do this, but... My fiance and I are already confirmed for the ME on June 29, 2011. Just playing around online last night I realized that for the same price we could get a lot more from Dreams. Our budget is around $5,000. At ME we were going to have the semi-private reception at the steakhouse (no music or dancing allowed), but for the same price at Dreams we can have a private dinner (you get the place for 3 hours to have a reception) and cocktail hour. From what I've seen it looks like the ME may have nicer grounds and is more modern. I'm soooo confused and don't know what to do?!?! I would really like to be able to have the private reception and there is no way we can afford that at ME. Am I crazy for even considering this? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. We will be having around 20 guests. THANKS!!!!
  17. We have confirmed our wedding in June at the Majestic Elegance, but I'm having MAJOR second doubts and think I'm changing to Dreams Punta Cana. Do they charge a set-up fee for the private dinner or charge for waiter service in addition to the charge for dinner?!?! Thanks!
  18. My fiance and I are getting married June 29, 2011 at Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana. We are arriving at the resort June 27, but most of our guests will be arriving a day or two before my fiance and I. I would love to have something to welcome my guests, but I'm not sure how to go about it! Any suggestion???
  19. I copied and pasted this from the ME wedding FAQ page: Does Majestic Resorts offer a Photography Service? Yes they are called Tropical Pictures and you may view their website and make arrangements with them at www.tropicalpictures.com.do, [email protected] . Conversely if you chose a local photographer other than Tropical Pictures a $300 entrance fee will apply to this outside vendor per day.

  21. Okay, this may be completely crazy but am I the only one concerned about this?!?! My Aunt just informed me that the first case of Cholera has been confirmed in the Dominican. Our wedding isn't until June, but this kind of thing doesn't just go away overnight! I haven't sent my STD's yet but was going to mail them this weekend. Is anyone else considering changing their location? I can't even imagine the nightmare that would be! Am I being ridiculous or are there others out there with this concern?!?!
  22. I understand where you are coming from with this, but at the same time you can't get upset. People are paying a LOT of money and this is probably their vacation for the year. Maybe they don't want to "vacation" with everyone else and want some more seclusion. As long as you are upfront about the day passes and that this would be their responsibility, I think it's their choice to make. Of course it would be more convenient for you for everyone to stay in one place, but that may not be ideal for everyone. Sorry if this sounds mean, but you can't make people spend money to stay where you want them to.
  23. This sounds amazing! If there are any lists out there that could fit a June 29, 2011 bride I would love to do this. We are getting married at Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana. Thanks!!!
  24. I'm new to this idea, but love what i'm hearing so far. Could someone please explain the starfish passing to me?!?! Thanks
