  1. That's what I'm wondering too!! I would love to get something like this, but only if it's flattering on my BMs. I can't find anything like this in person for them to try on though Would love to hear other people's experiences with these dresses (or dresses like them!)
  2. I have to go with the tropical colours as well! We are doing a deep turquoise as our main colour, with fushia/purple/yellow accents. So those will be the colours in my bouquet. I'm not a huge fan of the white/green bouquet look. Then again, they are flowers and I'm sure anything will look lovely!
  3. Just picked up the first book today. Doesn't sound up my alley at all, but after all the reviews I've read I can't wait to read it!! This is why I love book clubs
  4. I love this thread! It's so interesting to see the diversity and yet we all have so much in common! I work in communications for an oil and gas company. My degrees are in Anthropology...go figure...I kind of sold my soul lol. But I love my job
  5. Here's what I've been up to... 6. I'll be taking my FI's last name. I love my family and am proud of the name and all that, but it is a pain to spell/pronounce and I'm tired of people getting it wrong for 27 years! I'll be a Howard, and that is just soooo much easier. Plus, I love that we'll be the 'Howards' I think it's really cute lol
  7. Oh and congratulations Crystalball!! Your pictures are beautiful
  8. Yikes! Can't believe I haven't written a review or answered any questions yet. Sorry ladies! I read Room quite a while back, when we first chose it, and have read a couple other books since, so it's not really at the forefront of my mind. I have to say (don't worry, no spoilers), I just finished Sarah's Key and I LOVED it. Such a moving book, and a real page-turner. Now for Room! I really liked this book, I couldn't put it down. I was dying to know how it would end, and I think overall I'm happy with the way it ended. I liked that there was some closure by visiting Room after the escape. But I was a bit disappointed that we didn't have more information about Old Nick, or his side of the story. Maybe it didn't matter as a whole, but I was curious. I really enjoyed reading about Jack's experiences after the escape, because he had to deal with things I never would have thought of, because we just take them for granted. Like the fact that he kept running into things, because his depth perception was off due to living in a small room his whole life. Who would have thought?? I was disappointed that Ma had that meltdown and tried to kill herself. I mean of course the aftermath is hard to deal with, but to try and kill yourself when you have Jack? I felt so awful for him. Maybe, though, that is what gave Jack some courage and independence? The fact that she wasn't with him 24/7 to guide him through 'real life'. One other thing I wanted to mention - I think if I were in that situation I would have kept Jack. I mean, he was her baby, part of her you know? And of course you would want a companion. I think it would be incredibly hard to be selfless in that kind of situation. And who knows what Old Nick would have done with the baby if she hadn't wanted to keep it. But then I wonder...what would have happened if they couldn't escape? I mean, how long could you keep pretending? And how long could you live in a small room with a growing boy? Hmmm Cali - I like the idea of choosing just a couple questions and having people discuss them specifically!
  9. Star18 - Yikes! So sorry to hear about your experience at Ethos. I have to say, Ethos was my least favourite place to try on dresses. I felt like the woman helping me was being pushy and wasn't really listening to what I wanted. She was acting like she knew exactly what I 'should' wear - we were not impressed! My mom and I kinda just rushed out at one point, and it was such a relief to leave! I loved Beautiful Bride (where I bought my dress) and Blissful Bridal the best (both on Macleod Tr), they both had great service and an amazing dress selection!
  10. Great thread!! There don't seem to be too many contributors, which I find surprising. FI and I are new to scuba, we were certified almost 1 year ago - we did our class and pool here in Calgary. Since neither of us have any desire to do cold water diving we went to Hawaii for a vacation and to complete our open water dives! We did all of our diving in Maui and it was amaaaazing!! Visibility was incredible - we did one dive (after we were certified) that was 100 ft (eek!) and when we jumped in, we could see all the way to the bottom! The fish, sea turtles, eels, reef sharks, etc were so cool. I'm hooked, I can't wait to dive more! I wish we were going somewhere great for diving for our wedding/honeymoon, but we've chosen the DR for many other reasons. I really want to go to Belize for a dive trip! My parents (also divers) go to Ambergis Caye every year and love it, they rave about the diving down there.
  11. sxcT - Thanks! I really like the colour combo too! Our reception is indoors, so no wind
  12. Picked up some of the materials for our centerpieces today! This isn't the completed look but I still wanted to share Our colours are turquoise and purple. We're going to put little LED tea lights in the lanterns with some sand at the bottom. I hope it's enough...the centerpieces on this thread are incredible, but I just can't fathom taking that much down with us!
  13. I just bought that magazine yesterday! We looove the idea of using those little bottles with the corks for name cards - I have no idea where to get them though. Any luck? I was thinking Michaels, but I took a look today and didn't see anything similar...
  14. proti007- I'm not really on the fence, I definitely want to get them done! But FI doesn't really understand the purpose of them (he's such a boy, although he loves to help make wedding decisions, he doesn't get things like favors, colours, decorations, etc). I'm sure your pictures will help convince him though, so thanks for posting the link cookie - what company did you guys use? I'd love to see some of the pics! How much do e-shoots usually cost in Calgary? I'll have to start looking around (and trying to decide when to do it, might have to wait until it warms up again!).
  15. proti007 - wow amazing photos!! You make a very cute couple And I LOVE the light in them! We're still thinking about whether or not to get e-photos (er, I am anyway, lol) - your photos definitely make me want to do it. Thanks for sharing!
  16. Uh oh...any other Canadian girls in this? It was our Thanksgiving this weekend :S lol! I didn't go overboard, but I definitely ate more dessert and carbs (mmm stuffing!) than I usually do. Congrats Mrs.*J*2011 and all the other girls!
  17. To make it easier to find each other, I made a reservation for us at 6pm at Melrose (the restaurant side). Just ask for the reservation under 'Sandy'. See you all tonight!
  18. As far as I know that's still the plan! I am planning to go - everyone else still in for 6pm-onwards at Melrose tomorrow (Tues) night?
  19. Works for me - the past few times I've been we've stayed until after 8!
