  1. Just wanted to confirm the same! We're meeting at O, in Marda Loop, same place as last time?
  2. Hey ladies! Are we getting together on Tues? For some reason I thought it was Wed. I can do either day - so count me in! Looking forward to meeting up, I have tons of wedding updates!
  3. OMG JBean! We have the same dress!! I posted a picture of me in the dress when I ordered it way back in August. It's supposed to arrive in the next few weeks, I can't wait! It's such a gorgeous dress, perfect for the beach!
  4. I just went through something similar. My parents divorced when I was 2 and and my mom re-married about 10 years ago. My father and my step-father will be at the wedding, and I'm close to both of them. But I'm very very close to my mom, and I feel like she essentially raised me on her own and I want her to walk me down the aisle. I only recently got up the nerves to tell my dad, and it didn't go over too well. I think he was really surprised and disappointed. And I feel terrible, because I'm his only child, nevermind only daughter. But I had to do what I wanted for my wedding day. I don't want the day to be about pleasing other people. Hopefully in time he'll understand and accept it. To date, it hasn't come up again in conversation so I'm just going with my decision assuming everyone else is okay with it. As for how to bring it up in conversation - I didn't say I wanted my mom to walk me because I'm closer to her, I didn't want to hurt him even more! I said I wanted my mom to play a bigger role in the wedding than mothers traditionally do, and we'd still have the father-daughter dance and stuff. Hope this helps! Just remember its your wedding, you have to do what you feel is right for you.
  5. I think it's gorgeous! You look stunning in it. I think it looks really romantic and perfect for a DW, so if it's light - even better! I like your idea of adding a bejeweled belt in place of the flower. Great choice!
  6. Count me in! Wednesday Feb 2nd works for me, and I really liked O. (Natalie - lucky you! The Banff Springs is gorgeous!!) Glad to know I'm not the only one suffering from phantom e-ring syndrome
  7. Congrats Natalie!! So happy to hear that things are working out with your wedding group Great news girls - I've ordered my wedding band! I'm having it custom made at Troy Shoppe Jewellers in Bridgeland. The people there are phenomenal, I felt so confident discussing what I wanted and what I could have done - they definitely know what they're doing. Plus their quote was $800 less than Alberta Diamond Exchange (do NOT recommend them!). The only downside is that they need my e-ring for 2-3 weeks and my hand feels so naked!! Lol I'm totally up for a meet up - we could try for the first week of Feb? I'm pretty flexible these days so whatever works for most people!
  8. Well, since we're now considered a 'chit chat' thread, here goes! I'm in a bit of a dilemma right now with the whole father giving the bride away. My parents have been divorced since I was 2, and I was raised primary by my mom. I did see my dad fairly often growing up, and I still speak with him regularly (he lives in the States), but I'm nowhere near as close to him as I am with my mom. My mom re-married 10 yrs ago, and I'm quite close with my step-father. So I was struggling with who would walk me down the aisle - I can't very well have all 3 parents! So I decided on my mom, she's who I really want there at my side because I feel like she's the only one who can 'give me away'. So tonight I told my dad that I wanted her to play a bigger role in the wedding than moms traditionally do, and have her walk me down the aisle. But that I'd still have the father-daughter dance and all that. I think I really hurt his feelings, and he said he'd need to think about it, as though...I'd asked for his permission. Now I'm wondering how hurt he is, did I ruin some lifelong dream of his - and also, does he think he can say yes or no to whether this happens? I haven't told my mom yet, but I'm dying to. How do you think I should handle this with my dad? Should I bring it up again, or let him bring it up when he's ready (if ever)? Should I go ahead and speak with my mom about all this? I know this is a personal decision and situation, but I just feel like you ladies might understand
  9. Hi Farlem - I haven't been there, but we've booked our honeymoon there. We'll be staying in one of the swim-out suites in the castle. We looked at lots of resorts near/in Punta Cana (getting married at Dreams Palm Beach) and we instantly fell in love with all of the amazing photos we saw of SSCC! I found their Facebook page to be incredibly helpful, so maybe head there to see what you think! Good luck with the decision
  10. I'm so excited we're doing all 3! I've read the first 2 so far, and I'm saving the last one for our flights to Mexico on Wednesday. These books are amaaaaazing!! I'm thrilled someone suggested Hungers Games, because I never would have picked it up otherwise. This book club is off to a great start! See you in the new year for some great discussion!
  11. JMikla - Congratulations! Don't stress out too much, the beauty of doing a destination wedding is that you can do as little or as much planning as you like! Please do come tomorrow night, I've reserved a table for 6 so plenty of room! The reservation is under my name, 'Sandy'. Looking forward to tomorrow night ladies!!
  12. Looking forward to it! I've made us a reservation for 6pm - it's under my name (Sandy).
  13. I'm in! I've never been, but sounds like the kind of place we're looking for! If everyone else is okay with O, I'll make a reso for Tuesday the 14th at 6pm (if that's a good time?) for us. It looks like we have 5 confirmed so far
  14. Okay...so the 14th at 6pm and we will be meeting...where? I haven't been to any of the places in Bridgeland or Marda Loop, so I don't know what parking is like there... Has anyone been? Kensington can be a bit of a nightmare for parking sometimes, but when there is parking it's quite convenient. There is Eau Claire too, which has $2 parking after 5pm (there's the Barley Mill, Joey Tomatoes, etc).
  15. Congrats mchili5!! I'm getting married at DPB May 4th, 2011, we're leaving the resort the day you arrive! Here are some Facebook pages that are very, very useful for information and pictures: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/DreamsPalmBeach http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/group.php?gid=113746091677 (Dreams Palm Beach Brides Group) http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=1563&id=1796763109&l=7aab39dfed (Melanie Mena's pics of DPB weddings) Happy planning!!
  16. Okay so it looks like Tuesday the 14th will work for everyone! Is 6pm good? Cookiemunchkin - you mentioned your car situation. Do you have a preference for where in the city we meet?
  17. Really? We're having our reception in a banquet room, but we are not having a dance floor. There's already a floor there! And no one told us that we had to have one. Is it really required inside? That just doesn't make sense to me.
  18. Welcome back Boo!! I can't wait to see your pictures, 4 photo shoots wow!! Alright, so the meet up...Do we have a consensus on the 14th or 16? The suggested places are: Kensington - Wine Bar or Kensington Pub Bridgeland - AKA Winebar Marda Loop - Narah Hookah Lounge Downtown - Unicorn pub or James Joyce I don't have a preference, I live downtown and have a car so I'm pretty flexible. Anyone have a preference or care to suggest somewhere else?
  19. Congratulations!! I love your story and the video, it made me tear up! lol You both look so happy and in love
  20. Welcome Ker! We're using an outside photographer for our wedding, but they are located in Punta Cana so we don't have to pay for any travel. I'd do some research, look at the photography galleries online to see if you like their style. Also use this forum!! I have found countless helpful reviews on here! Thanks for the suggestions for custom rings - we're going to visit a few in the next couple of weeks to see what they can do. Can't wait! Since a few of us are up for a Christmas get-together, should we pick a date/place? How about either Tues Dec 14 or Thurs Dec 16? And should we choose somewhere new? Is there anywhere that's particularly festive this time of year?
  21. Great job everyone!!! This was fun, and thanks Chelsea for hosting this!
  22. Gorgeous Proti!! I saw on the Calgary thread that you'd bought your dress and hoped for pictures - you look beautiful and so happy! Great choice
  23. I think a Christmas meet up would be fun! I could do any day that week except the Wednesday (15th) as I have a class. FI and I got his suit this weekend!! I'm so happy, it's the first thing we've crossed off the list after a few months of not doing anything wedding related! It's grey, from MEXX at Cross Iron Mills. He looks sooo good in it too, I can't wait to see him wearing it when I walk down the aisle (and bonus, the whole suit cost $199!) As an FYI to the ladies who were interested in the J Crew suits - I got a 25% off email today for orders over $150. It says to use code 'Turkey', and it ends Sunday. Congrats on the wedding bands ladies! We started looking at rings this weekend and I have a feeling I will need to get something custom made, as my e-ring band is pretty unique and nothing seems to fit it really well. Has anyone had a ring custom made here in Calgary? Any suggestions for where to go? I'm hoping it's not going to cost an arm and a leg...
  24. Wow I LOVE those outfits!! Hate to order online without trying them on first, so we are heading to Cross Iron Mills this weekend to see if we can find something similar. If not, it might be J Crew! I can't believe I never thought of doing grey before, I love it! And I think it will look great with our colours (teal, purple). Natalie - so sorry to hear about your situation! But I'm really happy its working out for you! And that you're doing the Jellyfish, I remember how excited you were about it. Are you sending your guests 'change the date' cards? I saw a thread about that on here, people had some really cute ideas for notifying guests of the change!
