  1. Lol, it is kind of funny how the car issue is so prevalent. That's Calgary for you eh? We live downtown though, so we very rarely use our car. Oct 12th would work for me!
  2. Yikes! Glad I checked in before leaving So no meet up tonight then. Should we switch days and times? Seems like a lot of girls want to meet up but can't because of the timing. I'm open to changing things up if it would mean more girls can make it! I know it's super hard to coordinate these things for so many people - but what days/times - and locations for that matter - would work best for you all? It doesn't have to be Melrose on 17th ave, we can always choose somewhere that works better for the majority.
  3. Okay so it looks like it's me, Natalie and Pam meeting at Melrose tonight, at 6pm. If anyone else wants to drop by, please do! I will be bringing one of our invites, as we finally received them and I'm dying to see what other DW brides think
  4. Ugh, what a terrible weekend! We were in Montreal visiting my family, and it was FI's first time there so we had to try all the famous Montreal foods. Of course that means smoked meat, poutine, bagels, my gramma's famous gnocchi lol...and the list goes on. Back to reality and eating better this week!!
  5. Hi ladies! Just got back from my best friend's wedding in Ottawa, so I've been away for a while. I'm totally up for meeting tomorrow evening if others are planning to come too!
  6. Yay! I'm really excited to finally start reading this book, I've been eyeing it for a long time!
  7. Beautiful pictures!!! And I loved your dress, what a gorgeous colour! Congratulations!
  8. It's beautiful! I like that it's so unique, and I love the colour! I definitely think you should get the dress that you love, beach setting aside. It's your wedding day, you have to be wearing the dress you fell in love with! I tried on a ton of those flowy beachy dresses and although they'd be nice and cool, they just didn't suit my body type or what I envisioned myself wearing on my wedding day.
  9. Danielle - we're doing the same thing. We're going to have an officiant marry us here first. We're not doing it to save costs, but to save the hassle of the translations and waiting for the certificate and all that. We are keeping it small and simple, and only having 2 witnesses. For us, the real wedding is in PC. Which is why we're having Pastor Rick York perform the ceremony, to give it that feeling of being the real thing (as opposed to having a wedding coordinator perform it, which was the other option for a symbolic ceremony, but it wouldn't feel real to me that way) .
  10. Huh? That response doesn't make any sense! I'd definitely email them back to clarify. We booked our wedding for May 2011 in June of this year, so they definitely book at least a year away. It could be that March is completely booked, but her email is confusing.
  11. Congratulations ladies!! Â This recipe looks delicious, as did the last! Chelsea, where are you finding these recipes? And does anyone know what a 'non-reactive saucepan' is? Does your pan have to state that specifically?
  12. Congratulations Cookie! Are you going to post pictures??
  13. Your photos don't seem to be working! At least for me... Â I'd love to see them - we go to Bucerias every Christmas and have Christmas dinner at Karen's Place I've never seen a wedding take place there, but I'm sure it was gorgeous! Can't wait to head back in a few months...
  14. Done! WOW. What a book! I can't wait for the discussion so I can talk to someone about this book...It's so new that I don't know anyone else who's read it!
  15. skadow - lol! that's brave! you'll have to let us know how it goes  I spent just over an hour at the gym this morning, short 10 min run and then lots of walking lunges, pushups, bicep curls, ab workouts, etc etc.
  16. AshleyL - where in Calgary did you go?? I've been wanting to try it out, but that is expensive for 1 session! :S
  17. I've read about the first 70 pages so far and it is so hard to put down!! I'm completely hooked. I'm really looking forward to the weekend when I'll have more time to spend reading!
  18. I just picked up the book at Chapters on my lunch! It sounds so good, I can't wait to start reading it. My cashier said his manager is reading it right now and is about 200 pages in and completely hooked. Apparently it's pretty eerie (I know I got chills the first time I read the cover!) but very good. Also, he told me that the author is supposed to be on CBC AM in the next day or two, for anyone interested in Canada. Â Happy reading everyone!
  19. Just wanted to give everyone a quick review of the Bridal Expo yesterday I had a really great time, I came home with a TON of leaflets, cards, bags, gift cards, magazines, etc. It's true that most of it wasn't applicable for destination brides, but it was still a fun experience! I think those events are great when you're first starting out planning, or if you weren't so heavily involved in a forum like this one. One highlight was a wedding planner who does destination weddings - she had an album of the best photographer in Punta Cana (in her company's opinion) - it was the photographer we've already booked!! Guess we made a good choice (HDC Photography, in case you're wondering) The fashion show was a blast too, it was fun to see all the dresses and lingerie, and the boys showing off tuxes were hilarious! (they're dancers, lol) Â Also, a quick update, because I did have a little rant on here a while back about the stress of needing 10 rooms booked to get our group rate...Well as of today we have 12 rooms booked!! So that's 22 guests, plus ourselves. That's probably about 2/3 of our total expected guests - what a relief! Â
  20. I had a workout with my trainer this morning. He always kicks my butt, which is great because I have trouble really pushing myself at the gym  Leslie - I was having the same issues with working late and not getting to work out! And I have no dog to walk Lol - so I started working out in the a.m and so far I LOVE it! I have way more energy throughout the day and it feels so good knowing I've already done my workout for the day. Now I'm trying to focus on my eating. I think I'm doing okay with what I eat, it's the portions that are hard to master. I'm small (5'0) but I loooove food and have an appetite! I'm going to start writing down what I eat again, I find it helps me pay more attention to how much I'm eating. Â
  21. I'm going to the Bridal Expo on Sunday with my mom! I'm not really expecting to get a ton of ideas, I'm really just going for the experience. I've never been to one before so I'm really looking forward to it! I'll post my thoughts afterwards
  22. It would be great to get some general impressions! Like...did you see any weddings on the beach/gazebo, did you see the banquet rooms, any information on decorating, flowers, etc? Did they confirm that you choose everything once you're down there for your wedding? And what about the sit-down dinners, do you choose just one option that everyone has to eat? Did you take any pictures? Â What did you think of the resort itself? Â I think lots of girls will be dying to hear anything you have to say so it would be great to get some general information about what you did/saw and what you thought about it all!
  23. kremsm - I'm in the same boat! Looking for teal dresses, but not having much luck so far! I might end up doing these teal convertible dresses I found on Etsy. I am thinking of having purple, fushia and yellow flowers for the girls. We didn't pick just one 2nd colour, we are essentially doing 'tropical colours' as our second - I think just about anything goes with teal! Try googling it, I found some great ideas that way!
