  1. Congrats, I know you are relieved!!!
  2. I debated with this too...After reading many of the threads on this topic, I decided to register. I am not advertising it, but when people ask, I am able to tell them. Not everyone you invite will be abe to attend, but they may still want to send a gift. Better to get something you want, then something random. Bed, Bath, and Beyond is a great place to register, b/c they always send out 20% off coupons. Also, someone will probably want to throw you a shower. It is just easier to be registered. I did not do a big registry, (no china) but it is there.
  3. Heartbeat, I feel your pain, I ran into the same problem! My family is from Jamaica and most of the larger resorts do have an 80% or 50% rule. It was extremely frustrating! What part of Jamaica are you trying to have the wedding in? There are actually many hotels that do not have a % rule or a day pass fee, although they are not all-inclusives. I contacted practically every resort from Ochi to Negril to Port Antonio. If you tell me your preferred area, I can give you a list of possible hotels. I actually ran into 2 problems when planning my wedding, the 80% rule and the fact that I am have a New Years Eve wedding. Many could not accommodate both, so I ended up booking at a hotel owned by a relative.

  7. I love Emily Giffen and Sophia Kinsella. I just finished American Wife by Curtis Steinfeld. Interesting fiction based loosely on the life of a former first lady. Good read and a page turner.
  8. I knew it was going to be in Jamaica, because that is where my family is from. As far as the location goes, it was more process of elimination. Most of the hotels/resorts have requirements for the # of guest staying on the property vs. # of guests at the wedding. This would not work for me since I have so many family members living in Jamaica, that would not be staying at the hotel. AND, I picked the worse day of the year, New Years Eve. This knocked out many more places. In the end, I am using a hotel owned by a relative of my mom's.
