  1. Our STD had both...the last two lines said "Home Reception - February 6, 2010" and then Details at Sandra & Mario - January 8, 2010 It's great to have a website where everyone can visit and keep themselves updated. And to not exclude anyone, it's important to share all information at once. People may change their mind last minute about going to Mexico...what if you didn't invite them to begin with? That's not nice, lol. Good luck!
  2. We're having our AHR at a local restaurant that has a nice hall (we've been there tons of times for other events or just dinner)...soup, salad, choice of entree, cake, and open bar is running us $65pp. Our DJ is $1,000. We're cutting costs with centerpieces and favors (those things aren't a big deal to us)...but definitely not on food or music!! We're having about 150 people, so around $10,000. But we figured we wanted to keep it nice for those who couldn't travel to Mexico. We couldn't imagine just having burgers and dogs in a backyard (no offense to those that are having it this way)...to me it's like wanting to be as cheap as possible but still expect gifts. That's not our style. I rather our day leave us with some debt, LOL. At least everyone will be satisfied and complaints will be kept at a minimum.
  3. Thanks ladies!!! You guys are great!! I'm off from work for a few days next week, so I'll definitely be going, HOORAYYYYY!! I'll make sure to post my choice ASAP! Thanks again for making me feel better
  4. Should I be freaking out at this point? I haven't even tried any on! I wanted to go with my mom, but every time we schedule a date and time, it never goes through! My married friends have said that it can take up to 6 months for a dress to arrive...is this true? That sounds like such a long time!! I can't imagine it taking more than 4 months or so...how long did it take for you guys? I need to feel better, help! I'm so stressed out...between work and my FI and I just bought a house so we've been spending our time ripping out carpet and painting that we've pushed the wedding planning aside...i need a few days away at the beach! haha.
  5. Shannon, I can't wait to read your review!! Us future brides LOVEEEEEEEEE reviews! Especially ones from the resort we're getting married at Oh, and pictures too of course!! Congratulations May your marriage be filled with love and happiness! <3 Sandra
  6. Everyone has to remain positive and still move forward with their wedding plans! Things like this happen all the time...the media creates such a frenzy that it makes all our heads spin! The reality is that it's concentrated in Mexico City, it's treatable, and their well on their way to taking care of everything. So, all you brides...everything will be just fine! Whether your wedding is planned for Mexico, Hawaii, Japan, Australia, the moon, it doesn't matter...these things can happen anywhere, at any time...keep your immune system strong by eating healthy, exercising, getting enough sleep, and most importantly not stressing out. Good luck ladies
  7. We've always wanted to have a DW regardless of cost...so we invited everyone just as we would if we were having an AHR...those who can travel to Mexico and join us, great! Those who can't will join us for a simple and casual dinner reception a month later...it's entirely up to the couple and what they want! I'd have a bunch of ceremonies and receptions if it means having a great time, haha!
  8. just checked out victorias secret dresses...so many great options!! it's just so hard to choose a style and size when you can't see it in person i guess the best bet would be to order and few and return the ones that don't work, lol.

  10. That is just the hotel...oceanview suite at the Palace for 7 nights...what link above? I don't see a link Sometimes the forum confuses me, lol.
  11. We are looking for a TA (maybe someone here on BDW??) that specializes in Riviera Maya? We booked our stay at Barcelo Maya Palace through the hotel itself from January 4-11. We were quoted $3,500 which we'll pay upon arrival. We both think that's a lot. Maybe a TA could help us out with a better deal and also arrangements for our guests? This is the complicated part. We both have hectic jobs that demand a lot of our time so to call around and get quotes from a million different people isn't something we have time for. So...anyone know someone? Maybe you're the person reading this, LOL. HELP!! Sandra & Mario

I would check with your local nurseries and greenhouses and ask them if they carry small potted herbs at your time of year, just so you can be prepared. Thanks for the info. Are you in MA? If so, where? I am in NJ but my fiance has family right outside of Boston. If you'd like to ask your dad what is available in February, and perhaps take some pictures and prices, we would travel up to visit your dad's greenhouse while visiting our family. Then come February, we could drive up a week before the reception or FI's family could bring the herb arrangements down. It would be worth it for us if the cost were good, and of course, I love them. Let me know what you think. Thanks... Sandra
  13. Our reception is Feb 6th. Are herbs even fresh and available that time of year? We're in NJ...snow is likely
  14. My comment may be moved to "venting" section, lol. Please, PLEASE!!!, whichever STD magnets you choose...DO NOT purchase them from Walmart! I absolutely HATE the entire Walmart retail chain. Okidokie, I'm done Magnetstreet is pretty good, you should check their magnet choices!
  15. I absolutely love the idea of having fresh potted herbs as a centerpiece. I saw so many great pictures online. It's green and eco-friendly (which I love!). Wondering if anyone has used this idea or seen it? I don't have the best green thumb so I wouldn't be potting them myself not knowing how they'll all grow. We're looking at having about 10 tables so it'd be quite a few if we clustered them. Anyways, any thoughts? Sandra
  16. Cara, Thanks! Wow. $1,700 for the Palace! Even without taxes it sounds like a great price! How did you find out about a "group rate"? Did you use a travel agent? I'm so confused. Even penny counts and I don't want to be ripped off! You shouldn't feel bad that you're staying at the Palace and others may not be able to afford it. If they stay at Colonial for example they will still be close enough to you guys! The only thing I'd say would be where you all would be gathering for dinner and such. But other than that, it's the same beachy sand! And hey, it's YOUR WEDDING! You should stay at the best one, haha. If you used a travel agent, do you mind sharing their info? Or, if you contacted someone at Barcelo, who did you speak to? Thanks so much! Sandra
  17. Thanks for all the info ladies! I contacted Mannia and we were quoted $630 (taxes included) for 4 hours (this is with the 30% off). Sounds pretty reasonable to me! They want a $200 deposit wired to them from our bank to theirs. Has anyone done this? It's a little uncomfortable. I would rather send a certified check or use paypal. I dunno, something "safer". But being that they're well known, I guess it'd be ok. Should I worry?
  18. Any idea how much DJ services will cost if we decide to go with DJ Mannia? And what's included in the price? 30% off sounds like a pretty good deal (unless their fees are outrageous to begin with!!)
  19. Hello! Has anyone used or will be using a DJ in the future that's located in Riviera Maya? We're having our wedding at Barcelo Maya next January. Is it worth it? Would only an Ipod and speakers be ok? We are both huge music fans and find it rather important to have LOTS of it at our wedding! If anyone hired a DJ...who, cost, time frame, own music, etc? Any information youu guys have would be fantastic! Thanks so much!!! Sandra
  20. water globe is something special...plus she can keep it forever as a memory of being a flowergirl in your wedding!
  21. My niece is 6 and she'll be our flowergirl. I was going to give her a personalized charm bracelet with lots of sparkle (she's a girly girl!). I was also going to give her a tote bag filled with fun things for her to enjoy in Mexico!
  22. Thanks! That's your quote at the Palace? What room do you have? I know we're having an oceanfront suite. Even so, I feel that our pricing is quite high!
