  1. We chose a Wednesday because of flights to/from Italy and Friday and Saturday weddings are drastically more expensive in Italy. Plus there is lower traffic in Positano during the week vice weekends.
  2. Its nice to see flight attendants being so awesome to brides. It seems from reading posts and articles on destination weddings, tell everyone your getting married or on your honeymoon and see what deals or upgrades you can get. Regarding checking the dress...I would never check the dress...there are so many stories of garment bags coming without the wedding dress in them. It seems US Airways is trying to make it so you can bring it on the plane vice checking it. When we fly to Italy next year, that dress is coming on board with me.
  3. Friends of mine took a picture they both liked from their wedding and made greeting cards on Shutterfly.com. I like that idea and will most likely copy it for thank you cards.
  4. Hi. I cannot speak to the cruise but I am getting married in 11 months and am sending out my save the dates next month.
  5. For small tags, I would go to Michael's craft store get them. I just bought some small tags for a project there. Items for the programs may be there too.
  6. Hi & Congrats! I am getting married in Positano on 13 May 2010. FYI, this site is more for folks getting married in the Caribbean or Central America. However, I have found it to be useful for ideas that I alter to suit my wedding. I am making a lot of stuff because our immediate family are the only guests and it is hard to find things that represent Italy and Positano that are pre-made. Be ready to get creative. With that said you can use beachy items to represent Positano. For example, off the coast are the islands of the sirens...so you can use mermaids, star fish and seahorses in your save the dates and invitations. I am in the process of making my Save the Dates and I chose the boarding pass. I created my own logo/monogram and am using clip art of the Italy boot in "Positano" colors (blues, white, yellow, orange) to dress it up. I will post them when I get them printed. Let me know if you need anything. Question for you, have you called to reserve your date with the town hall or are you having your wedding in a church? If you need help with the legalities, let me know, we are going through that right now. ...well just planning really since the legal process starts 6 months out here in the US. However with that said, I have to call on Monday to reserve our date at the town hall. I am nervous because I have heard there is only one person there who speaks English and I don't speak the dialect. My Italian is poor and I speak a more northern dialect. Just curious. Again, let me know if you need anything or want to bounce ideas off of me. I also have vendor names/websites if you need it. Congrats!
  7. First, both a great dresses & look good on you. Number 2 is more informal/beachy. But don't let the formality of your destination wedding hold you back from the dress you love. I personally like Number 1 best. If I were you, I would go with the one I am "in love" with.
  8. Those are awesome! Did you get them printed at a print store or did you print them at home?
  9. It seems the etiquette is to give either favors or OOT bags/boxes. You don't have to. I don't think people will be offended. They are there to celebrate with you not get free stuff. I went to a destination wedding last year that did not have OOT bags, no one said anything or cared.
  10. My fiance and I have never been to our location. I have been to Italy but not this town. He has never been there. We think that is part of the adventure!
  11. I am going with natural elements and colors of Positano, Italy. Lemons (which I want in the centerpiece at reception dinner), pale yellow, blues and white. I may incorporate more colors. The buildings and homes are painted in orange, reds, yellow, etc. I love the way the landscape looks with the brightly colored homes and the blue water.
  12. I am only inviting immediate family and a couple of friends so I was going to have them respond via email. I know that is super casual but it would save on stamps and I know who is going to be able to make it. I do like the idea of using the website for RSVP too.
  13. Like many of you I would like to keep my last name but I am still debating on changing it. I grew up in a divorced situation and my mom did not have the same last name as me. Everything was fine. So I feel I cannot use children as an excuse to ditch my last name. My last name is easy to spell, say, etc., plus the whole name change seems a little archaic in 2009. I think I will keep my original name but go by his socially. Many of my friends have done that due to professional reasons and that seems to be ok. My fiance joked he would change his name to my last name because he likes that it is easy to spell and pronounce. We are still officially on the fence. I have a year
  14. well we haven't signed a contract or anything yet. I also need to get my FH on board with this. He is a little reluctant but we'll probably end up going with La Calla. I liked three and we'll still consider them until we check references. But I feel better that now we have to choose someone and we know what we want. The good news about all this we have time.
  15. I am all about adding a Europe sub-forum. I am really glad I began this thread. I am really glad I have gotten to chat with and/or see responses from people who are getting married in Europe. I have gotten great advise as getting married in Europe is different from Mexico, Hawaii, and the other tropical destinations. I am hoping to see more Italy brides in the future since I am chose Italy. One can hope, right? I did find great Europe wedding advise on trip advisor. I think I found my coordinator, just need my FH to say ok as we are both paying for this wedding. I also found great hotels, restaurants, things to do, etc. Best of luck to all!
  16. I was going to DIY boarding pass Save the Dates, luggage tags, pre-travel brochure, and Passport invites. Anyway, I don't have a color printer and was wondering if anyone else DIY'd these items, and used Kinkos or another print service.
  17. I work with a bunch of people who travel internationally. If they want to take food, tylonol, etc, they check those items.
  18. I am using the same template and that part was troublesome for me. I got frustrated and simply deleted it. If anyone else knows how to manipulate it, let me know.
