  1. You seem to be very conscious and thoughtful of your guests, I think your original plan was great.
  2. KJT1985- I am so with you! A destination wedding does weed out the folks who don't really care enough to go. The bright side is you'll have fun, and know the people that are there want to be there and truly support you. This is my #1 reason for choosing Positano, Italy for my destination.
  3. Welcome! I am sure you will find lots of ideas here. I know this site has been great for me!

To my surprise its very easy and most people speak English or can understand my elementary Italian. Also we have having a small wedding. If there were more than 12 guests, I'd use a coordinator. But its been really easy and we've been able to save money on that to pay for other things like our honeymoon, better accommodations, custom wedding bands, photography, etc. We are using a coordinator for the interpretation of the ceremony and to file our paperwork in Salerno (capital city of the province of Compania). Since we are not Italian citizens we must have our ceremony interpreted into English. Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you have other questions. I am pretty much done until six and three months out..that is when the legal part starts. We have to get new copies of our birth certificates with an Apostille stamp and it's only valid for 6 months. At three months out, we go to the Italian Embassy here in DC to fill out paperwork stating we are free to be wed.
  5. Congrats! I am getting married in Italy too...May 12, 2010 in Positano.
  6. I made my own too. I used business cards printed at Kinkos and fixed them to self adhesive business card sized magnets (bought at a craft shop). It was super easy and cheap.
  7. Thanks for site. I have to get our birth certificates with the apostille for our wedding in Italy in May.
  8. Hi! Yes, a lot of my friends and even some family members displayed some negative behavior in the beginning. My fiance's friends which I do consider my friends have been nothing but supportive of what we want and have been helpful when we've asked for help. My fiance also reminded me that since I am the last of my girl friends to get married, they may be a little jealous because they did not do a destination wedding like we are. One of my girl friends who did do a destination wedding in Florida (we live in VA) has been really cool. I think she understands. Another reason for the negativity is that your friends may have a vision of what a wedding looks like and you may be going against their vision, which is fine. This is your wedding and your vision of how your day will go with your husband-to-be. I would suggest giving your friends some time. Get your save the dates ready and continue planning your day. Stick to your guns (I've had to do this with my mom especially) about what you want and do it. This day is about the celebration of the union between you and your fiance and nothing else. Your friends will come around, mine have, especially when they saw I wasn't going to change anything because they didn't like what I am doing. Good luck!
  9. I made my save the date magnet using a business card printed at Kinkos and a business card magnet from AC Moore. I love the magnet because its functional. I paired my magnet with a card save the date too. I went with the boarding pass. You can add more information to the card but make sure its accurate if you are getting a group rate/discount.
  10. The boarding passes look great! I did the boarding passes too and I have loved seeing others. I love the idea and think it sets the stage for a fun and romantic wedding.
  11. the bouquet is awesome! I love the colors you picked too.
  12. -Thanks for the kudos! Tisha, I found my template here but more specifically, DIY: Boarding Pass Invitation / Save The Date - Aylee Bits. Karen M- Thanks for your comments. I got my sand dollar/starfish punch at Michael's ...Martha Stewart collection; two punches for the price of one!
  13. I used the template on the following link. DIY: Boarding Pass Invitation / Save The Date - Aylee Bits. Also do a search in the DIY forum or general boarding pass search on this site. That is how I found the great ideas, templates and designs for my save the dates. Good luck!
  14. My DIY Italy Save the dates are done! I love them and I wanted to thank all the DIY DB's out there...your pics and posts helped me. I even copied a luggage tag magnet from a DB here and love the results. I got all my supplies at Michael's and got my boarding passes printed at FEDEX Kinkos. Using FedEx Kinkos online service was awesome! I uploaded my files, prepaid and chose which card stock I wanted. I did this on a Friday night and picked them up on Saturday around 10AM. I would suggest using their service if you plan to DIY your save the dates. I think I saved some cash by doing my own save the dates but I also had fun doing it. I am going to do my own invites too...I hope to do the passports! Anyway, enjoy the pics... Save the dates.pdf
  15. I only have the one dress but both of your's are really beautiful!
  16. I am so glad I am not alone!!! My fiance went to a lot of trouble creating our site and I went to even more trouble researching everything from costs of plane tickets, transportation, hotels, etc. in Italy. We even published an itinerary and I cannot tell you the amount of phone calls I get saying..."so what date are you flying over?" and "When are you getting to Positano?". It just gets frustrating because I have done everything except hold their hands on buying plane tickets and that is still not enough. I may scream the next time I get asked any crazy question that is already on the website. Ah...that feels good to get some frustrations out with folks who get it! I did have a friend, who had a destination wedding last year, to ignore some of it...just put the information out there and do your own thing. The guests will make it to the wedding one way or another. I hope we all have better luck with our guests reading what we've posted on our personal websites.
  17. I am so excited! After about a month or so of looking I found my dream dress. I love it and I think it is perfect for my venue. Just in case the attachment doesn't work...its an Allure Bridal #8524. dress.doc
  18. Your dress is beautiful! I think you should have the dress you love for your day.
  19. We chose a Wednesday because of flights to/from Italy. Plus the price difference is crazy from week day to weekend.
