All of the a-la-carte restaurants at the Lindo are kid-friendly except the gourmet restaurant which is an adults only restaurant (ages 12&up). Kids can go to any of the other gourmet restaurants.
  2. I am getting married at the Lindo April 1, 2009. The Lindo is also very kid friendly, offering the same things as mentionned at the Beach and Del Mar in the previous post. They also have a babysitting service (with a fee). I have heard great things about the kids program at Iberostar.
  3. Thanks for sharing your list with all of us! It is exactly what I needed right now as I find myself all over the place these days! This should help me focus on specific tasks rather than starting what feels like a million things at once!
  4. Our wedding is April 1, 2009 and we started booking back in early May (pretty much a year in advance). We booked as soon as our TA was able to get the package prices from our carrier. With 10 deposits we were able to secure the rate and hold 50 spots for any of our guests that booked before a deadline. Is it a smaller resort that you are getting married at?

  6. It was overwhelming trying to decide which one to go with. I guess it really depends on what you're looking for and how much you want to spend. I definitely wanted one with a handle and we were in between ST2000 and PT88. Ultimately we went with style PT88 as it was quite a bit cheaper. They come in multiples of 12 so we ordered 60, which ended up costing us $308.21, shipping included (and we also ordered gift boxes with them). They actually ended up sending us 74 mugs so we got some bonus ones! If you sign up on their website you will get emails with different deals (10% off, 20% off or free shipping are the coupons I've received). We ended up getting free shipping with our order. They do not charge extra to ship to Canada and contrary to what I've heard, we did not get charged duty on our order. They were delivered really fast. The deal right now is 10%, but ends on August 15-coupon code AUG1. I found that they came out with a new coupon quite often so if you can afford to wait for 20% or free shipping I would! If you have any other questions I'd be happy to help you! Good luck!
  7. Welcome and congrats! I am a teacher also! We originally planned for Christmas '08 but found the prices were significantly higher than spring break (close to $700/person). That was awhile ago so maybe they've changed now....just something to think about! Good luck!
  8. We paid $118 for our travel insurance. We had to get medical insurance for my FI as he is not currently covered. I also have never heard of $1/day insurance.
  9. Our resort, the Iberostar in the Mayan, charges $300 if you choose to bring an outside photographer and not use their photographer.
  10. We've been together for 8 years and dated for 7 before getting engaged. It's nice reading these posts and realizing that I'm not the only one who has waited so long! We went to school together beginning in kindergarten...he still even has a Valentine's Day card that I gave him in grade 1 with one of my letters written backwards!
  11. A fundamentalist church group from the U.S. has announced it plans to picket the funeral of Tim McLean Jr. in Winnipeg, declaring, "God is punishing Canada." "People are absolutely outraged about it," said Doug Mitchell, a friend of McLean's for about seven years. Led by pastor Fred Phelps, the Westboro Baptist Church from Kansas issued a release saying they would picket McLean's funeral this weekend. Phelps' daughter, Shirley Phelps-Roper, said about seven church members are expected to come to Winnipeg. "What we're doing is trying to connect dots," Phelps-Roper told the Winnipeg Sun last night. "We're trying to get you to see that your rebellion against the standards of God, your disobedience to the commandments -- your idols, your false gods, your filthy ways have brought wrath upon your head."
  12. All I can say is...seriously? If this is the way these people want to get their point across, they are just sick. Let a family grieve peacefully. Makes me ill. From the Winnipeg Free Press, August 7 A group of Winnipeggers is planning a counter-rally to ensure that Tim McLean has a peaceful and respectful funeral service Saturday afternoon. Jim Cotton, a resident of Winnipeg Beach with no relation to the McLean family, started a Facebook page this morning asking Winnipeggers to help protect McLean's funeral in the wake of news that a notorious fundamentalist church in Kansas is planning to protest the service. "We want to protect the family so they don't come out of the church service and see people shouting obscenities," Cotton said. "I've never met the McLean family. I've just been moved by the whole story." Earlier this week, the Westboro Baptist Church -- an organization branded hate group known for protesting the funerals of deceased American soldiers -- announced they would picket the funeral of McLean to let Canadians know that the Greyhound bus slaying was God's response to Canadian policies enabling abortion, homosexuality and adultery. Cotton's group is planning to circle around the seven picketing church members Saturday and pray for the family of Tim McLean. Two hours after Cotton created the Facebook page, 40 people had already agreed to join him at the funeral. "I was talking to people on the Internet and said, 'let's get a Facebook page going...let's drown out these seven people,'" he said. Rodney Taylor, an Ottawa resident, came across the page this morning and wanted to help from the nation's capital. Taylor phoned Canada Border Services, the Prime Minister's office and Minister of Public Safety Stockwell Day, asking them to keep the church group, led by Fred Phelps, out of the country. He also created his own Facebook page asking other outraged Canadians to follow his lead. "These people are callous, vicious and shouldn't be let into our country," he said. "We have freedom of speech, but they are inciting hate." Members of the Kansas-based fundamentalist sect had been planning to picket in Canada prior to last week's horrifying bus murder. The group is scheduled to protest the opening night of Toronto playwright Alistair Newton's "The Pastor Phelps Project: a fundamentalist cabaret" which satirizes their leader's fervent anti-gay stance in Toronto tonight. Tomorrow members will picket outside a performance of "The Laramie Project" -- a play based on the real life murders of two homosexuals in the United States -- in Red Deer, Alberta. Shirley Phelps-Roper, daughter of Fred Phelps, refused to say if members of the church have successfully crossed into the country, but said, "if we get blocked at one crossing, we'll try another." If they are successful, and show at McLean's funeral Saturday, Cotton said he and others will be waiting. "It's despicable. If we don't do anything, we are saying we accept this garbage in our community," he said. [email protected]
  13. It was on our first vacation to the Mayan that we saw a wedding on the beach at our resort. It was right then and there that I knew I wanted to have a DW and get married on the beach. I always knew that I wanted a smaller wedding with my closest family and friends and I thought this was the perfect way to do it!
  14. Hey girls! Thanks for all of your help on my last post. We checked out a bunch of those places and found the suit we were looking for. However, there is a minor problem! The suit we found is from Banana Republic. Our nearest BR is in Minneapolis and they don't have any. Here's where I need your help. We found the jacket and pants from 2 different locations, but they do not ship to Canada. Would someone be willing to have them delivered to their US address and then ship them over to me (of course I would cover the shipping costs). I don't know if this is too much to ask but if someone is willing to help out I'd really appreciate it!
  15. I absolutely love them. Your girls will look stunning in them on the beach! I am going to have to go check those out!
  16. We're looking for a light coloured/tan suit. We also found one at Mexx that he really likes but it was polyester and the experts say polyester doesn't breathe and therefore isn't good for warm climates. We'll definitely check out the places mentionned...any others?
  17. My FI and I have spent the last few days looking for a suit for him. We haven't had any luck and were thinking of driving down to the States to look. Could you girls recommend some good stores to go to?
  18. They do not have honey dill sauce in the US and it absolutely kills me when I am down in the States. I actually contemplate not ordering chicken fingers because there is no honey dill sauce for me.
  19. We were thinking of having our guests come up and take a shot of tequila! I think it could result in an interesting evening!
  20. With regards to tipping at your DW, I was wondering who you're tipping and approximately how much? I know that I'm going to tip my wedding coordinator but was thinking about the bartender, photographer...etc. Anyone that I'm not thinking about that should be considered?
  21. Hello and welcome! I know exactly how you feel...price was a big thing for me as well. I am getting married in April at the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo in the Mayan Riviera. There are actually 5 different resorts on the property so I was able to get a range of prices for my guests. Those that didn't want to spend as much could choose to stay at the Beach resort and those that wanted to go for an adults only could stay at the Grand. If you want more info you can PM me.
  22. I love the 1/2 up do...and I agree, with the right products you should be fine. Either way though, you look great!
  23. Thanks everyone! I am so excited to have found this incredible forum and know I will spend a lot of my time on it! It's so overwhelming....so much useful information!
