  1. I'm with you on this one! FI and I were legally married last month. It was a very special day! We both can't wait to say "I do" on the beach surrounded by ALL of our families and friends though At first, I was hesitant because I didn't want people to make a big deal about the legal day since I wanted the wedding to be the main event. Now, I am excited to have two anniversaries -- more excuses to celebrate! I realized that both days are/will be very real to us, both no less significant than the other, and that's all that matters. Our legal day isn't a secret, so close friends and family know. I don't understand why guests should feel deceived over a technicality. Sure, you're legally married but that doesn't make the vows you exhange and love for each other less real. They should be there to celebrate your committment to each other, which does not have to be confirmed by signing a piece of paper, IMO! The marriage license is just a legal document for the government; the wedding is for the people who matter I hope things work out for you!
  2. The State Dept issues travel alerts and warnings that you can subscribe to by country Current Travel Alerts For Mexico, there were warnings about violence around the border which is expected and a couple issues of crime throughout the country (which is a problem for any country anyway). I don't know if this will make her feel better or just more nervous about traveling to Mexico. At least the info on the DoS is not oversensationalized by the media, and she'll see that there's nothing serious in the the area you'll be visiting!
  3. I am wondering the same thing about the makeup and hair. It seems like there are mixed reviews about the resort's services which has me a little worried. Then again, I guess that is the point of having a trial. Does anyone know the price range for hair and makeup and if that includes the trial session? For those who had makeup done at the salon, did you bring your own products? Thank you! Thanks for the great review and pictures, Missy. The picture of the reception site taken from the beach was very helpful in getting an overall idea of the place. Did you request the white draping or did it come with the reception? Kelly, less than a month away! Can't wait to hear about it and see those pics esp w/ Sol as your photog!

It's fun to look at pictures of everyone's fabulous weddings and planning ideas, but that's all I have been doing for the last couple of months. I imagine my wedding w/ vibrant colors and romantic rustic Mexican decor, but I haven't done anything. I figure there will be lots of time to kill in the bitterly cold months of Jan and Feb!
  5. I love your dress and the beautiful veil! I wish I saw your invites earlier -- the mini passport ones look awesome. If only I can un-mail all the invites I already sent! 6. Hope you had a wonderful wedding day yesterday Missy !
  7. We have 2009 rates even though we made the reservation this year; however, the amenities were from 2008. Most likely, we're creating our own package. I was told that the buffets come w/ 3 hour open alcohol bar. Extra hours are $10 pp (for cocktail hour, etc). I remember being confused on this open bar situation also because I thought that the open bar automatically included alcohol (like the cocktail party in some of the packages) but it was only water and soft drinks. It seemed like the rates varied some in this regard. Btw, is Daniela, Perla's assistant, still at Paradisus? She has been my point of contact. I haven't sent an email in months. Is Elisa also an assistant? Info attached -- I don't know if there has been any updates/changes since this fall. 2009 R O M A N C E by Paradisus Resort Packages Procedures.pdf Banquet Kit - Romance.pdf Amenities List - 2008.pdf

Congrats and welcome Ryan and Julia! Have you checked out the Paradisus thread yet?
  12. The Happening was awful I like the concept behind the story, but it was just poorly made and the plot was boring.
  13. Tell your mom that all she has to do is show up at the destination ready to celebrate, not to worry about anything else and leave all the wedding planning up to you I can understand that, as a parent, she may want to contribute financially to your wedding. Maybe she can purchase your veil, a piece of jewelry you'll wear or something? That way, it's something small yet still meaningful since it can also be a keepsake.
  14. Missy, are you packed and ready to go?! You'll be a married woman in less than a week Robinbood, how was your trip? I bet it was nice to get away from this cold weather!
  15. Good find on the shoes! Are you having a beach front ceremony? I am planning on going barefoot for a beach ceremony, but now I am tempted to look for a pair of shoes that may possibly work for walking on sand if one exists! Barefoot would be comfy and fun, but I would like a little height and also to wear fabulous blue heels for the reception!
  16. I used WPD for my invitations and love them. My invites had digital offset printing and the color, font, graphics looked really nice. They have letterpress and thermography (I think) invitations which are more expensive. The service was great. When you place an order, somebody at WPD proof-reads it, sends you an email w/ a link to a digital version of your card with suggestions or corrections, you either approve the changes or not, and they start printing. For me, they suggested that since my wedding begins at 5:30, I should use "afternoon" instead of "evening." They also switched my usage of "and" and "&" when listing our parents names. So, my invites looked much better than what I had originally. I looked at serveral companies and found that WPD worked well within my budget and had fresh, contemporary designs. Needless to say, I am a fan!
  17. This is a tough decision; they both look great on you. It seems like you lean toward the second dress. Perhaps see how you feel about both dresses in a few months? Or maybe try it on with a veil, hair flower, etc and see if your opinion changes for any of them. I love #1 because it falls so gracefully on you!
