Edna, I totally feel where you're coming from! No ring just yet but plans are in the works.... I can't talk to anyone about it except you girls so it helps, but I so want to talk to my friends and family about it!

If it were me, I would totally understand if someone couldn't come to my wedding- especially if they were planning their own. I'm sure if you explain they will be fine with it.

I have a couple of other issues. First, I am not getting married at an AI. St. John only has 3 resorts and they are pretty high-end and not AI, but most people who visit rent villas. I think most of my family will do that and make a week-long vacation out of it- at least that's what they say. So I'm going to pay pretty much the same per person as I would here in the Boston area. The other thing is that my sister got married last month and had a beautiful wedding. My parents paid for 95% of it. Mike and I have discussed paying for our own wedding but I don't think we'll be able to. Everyone who went to my sister's wedding is expecting to be invited to mine- I am definitely trimming that list but my parents have a lot of friends and they would definitely come to St. John. I know I will figure it out, but it is frustrating! I guess when I actually get my ring and set a definite date, I can start actually making real decisions.

This is sort of a weird topic for me.... I was in a relationship for 7 years with a guy who I didn't want to have kids with, for many reasons. That ended without us ever being married (THANK GOD) and then I met Mike. We are both 30 years old and I totally want to have kids with him but I feel like I'll have to do it right away. I'm not sure how I feel about that because I don't think I'm ready to give up my selfish ways yet. I know I will be a good mother and I love kids, but..... Then we get into the whole issue of can I get pregnant.... We spend so many years trying to prevent pregnancy and when we're ready we find out it will be really difficult or not possible. You have all of the conversations and decide, yes I want kids and then there's an issue, or high-risk or something. That's what I'm afraid of.

Why would they think they need to be involved with the wedding? Some crazies think they deserve the invite. This is what I'm afraid of! I might be over-reacting, but I've already had one couple, my parents friends, bugging me about a date so they can secure their timeshare. I wasn't going to invite them but now it's getting sticky. My parents said "of course we have to invite them, they're our friends." So this opens up another whole can of worms about who's paying for what. Ugh. At this point my dad says, "until there's a ring on your finger, there's nothing to discuss." Men- always a black-and-white response.

Catherine, given what you've said about your family, I'd invite your friends that you are close to and FH's family. Look at it this way- who would you invite to your son's birthday party? Would it be the same people? (Listen to me- I'm in the same boat and I'm giving advice.... Hm...)

How did you get the round corners on both sides (inside and outside) of the edge? Did you just cut out a triangle piece and then round the corners? Does this make sense? The part on the left, perforated side that is supposed to be discarded if it were a real boarding pass....

We all have our Secret Santa assignments so how should we handle it when we get our gifts? I did it for my sister's wedding a few weeks ago and I actually liked it.... I'm pretty white but it was done by a "certified" professional (whatever that means) air brushed on. I don't think I was orange- I think mine looked more natural than my sister who went to a tanning booth. Sounds like it depends on where you go. I did a trial a couple of weeks before in case I didn't like it.

There is a great article in either Islands or Caribbean Travel and Life magazine this month. I'm not sure which because I subscribe to both. They talk about the revitalization of the island and I believe they mention the Carambola. I haven't been there, we're getting married on St. John, but I visit a USVI message board on occasion, vinow.com and I know some of those folks would be happy to answer any questions- they probably have pics they can share too.
