  2. to the forum from a fellow Jamaica bride!
  3. I don't have an actual recipe with amounts for this... just to taste... Spinach and White Beans I start with EVOO to coat the bottom of a medium pot. I saute rough chopped garlic until soft (I use a lot of garlic - about 1/2 a head) with some red pepper flakes. Then I add frozen spinach - I like the bagged better than the boxed. Once the spinach is defrosted and the extra liquid has evaporated, I add a can of canneloni beans (rinsed and drained) to the pot and cook until the beans are hot. Salt and pepper to taste! Its delicious as a side dish or main course! I've tried it with fresh spinach, but there is just too much water.
  4. I was planning on going barefoot, and hadn't really brought a backup. But, the beach was way to rocky and hot to walk on during the ceremony. So I ended up wearing a pair of flip-flops that I didn't really like with my dress. For the reception I had red heels.
  5. That sucks Carly! I might casually mention it to the friend, and say that you feel bad saying anything since they did give you a great price. Sort of leave it casual and see what the response is. They may want to make it right

The gardenia looked really real - actually, Sam kept trying to smell it! The orchids are pretty real looking too. I bought them on Ebay from the seller gabbymacdesigns - here's her listings - Ebay Gabbymacdesigns. I bought them when she had a crazy 50% off sale around Christmas, so the orchids were $6 each and the gardenia was $14. She also has a website with the same stuff, but WAY more expensive. She's from Canada, so no worries for you Canadian gals. They arrived about 1 week after I ordered (maybe less).

We loved their photos, but they booked our date during Hurricane Dean, while they were on vacation. That may sound like no big deal, but the last email we exchanged before they left for vacation was that we wanted to book our date. She had said no big deal, we'd take care of it when she got back from the states. And then she booked my date. 9. Lizz - I have no idea the name of the stores, but we saw that price in Mo Bay at a few places and in Negril. I'm sure its the same in OR
  10. Sounds like you had a great time Heidi! Love the drawing, so cool! And awesome about your registry! Can't wait to see the pics
  11. Oh... I just remembered the other thing people really liked... afterbite! We got them on drugstore.com in packs 2/$3. It was a splurge, but we gave 1 per couple/family, and for those that did get bitten, they were a big hit. Tami's idea is much more affordable though

I am also a chapstick addict... when you initially put it on, your lips feel a little tacky, but it goes away quickly. It didn't get yucky at all, just sort of kept my lips stained the color. I did put liner on underneath the color for my whole lip (I always do with dark lipsticks). Carly it makes the lipstick matte, and you cannot put a gloss on top or the lipstick will come off. Also, don't get a lipstick that has a gloss component. I had bought a lipstick that was supposed to go on with a shine like gloss, and it definitely didn't work with that one. But, with normal mattes, it does wonders! I also put a few coats of the Lipchic on, which was recommended by the salon I went to.
  13. I think buying t-shirts there is great if you aren't planning on personalizing them - first off, less to carry down! Which is HUGE! And although they weren't this cheap everywhere, we saw the same deal at probably 10+ different places, so it is out there. We also saw deals like 3 bottles of rum for $10. We splurged a little and bought our guests coffee to take home (small 2oz bags) for $4 each. Also a big hit!
  14. Everything looks great! Your guests are going to love them!
  15. Hey ladies... I really wanted to wear red lipstick for my wedding, but was nervous about it bleeding, smudging and needing to be reapplied often. When I got my BD photos done, the salon put a 'lipstick sealer' on me and it miraculously stayed on for the whole shoot and then needed to be scrubbed off when I was done! So I bought it for the wedding, and was really impressed with it. I did reapply once after dinner, but that was it! Oh, and I smoke, which is usually a killer for lipstick! Here's the product - Ella Lipchic - I bought it in the salon (for way more money!), so hopefully someone else can benefit! Its great because you can use any brand/color lipstick, and you just brush a thin layer of the Lipchic on top!

For those going to Jamaica... we kept seeing shirts in the straw market and stores that were 7 shirts for $20. They were screenprinted with something Jamaican on them... the embroidered ones were a wopping 5 for $20! Just something to keep in mind... I know the Vistaprint deal, but you still pay for shipping which is $4-5 per shirt. Also, if you buy plain shirts and iron-on a logo, it will probably be more expensive. Just a thought. From our wedding - everyone used the towels and bags the whole trip. The sunscreen, Off Wipes, gum, meds and beachballs were also used. The flip-flop cards and notepads - not so much. They were cute though. We bought shell leis from OTC, and surprisingly, people wore them! I also got the girls glass starfish necklaces, and they all wore them. Our resort wasn't too buggy, but if you are staying someplace know for the mosquitos, mosquito coils will be a BIG hit with your guests. They are pretty cheap at REI-type places. Also, from our ceremony, the fans were DEFINITELY used - and not just by the women - lol!

  18. You look beautiful!!! Congrats! So glad everything worked out!
  19. No harm in trying... all they can say is no, right? Good luck ladies

We did order the larger ones though... we had 1 per couple, and wanted something large enough to put 2 towels in. The bags were perfect, and had plenty of room for everything! I liked the fact that they have 2 pockets on the outside & they seem quite sturdy. Here's her post with a picture of the finished product: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t13671 Okay ladies, I'm here! The bags I got were fantastic - heavy canvas material, the pockets are great, and the bags were a great size - but I did order the large ones (18"). They came fairly quickly as well. The bags were big enough to fit 2 big towels and all of our other stuff with lots of room to spare. These are big beach bags. Our guests definitely used them, and I think they will likely reuse them (which was our hope)! We also changed our logo so that it was just the location, to encourage reuse. The bags were also VERY easy to iron-on a design. The only suggestion I would have would be to order by phone from Dharma. I had made a few online purchases the night I ordered from Dharma, and during one of them (no way to be sure which) my credit card info was stolen! I know we are all online gals, but take the time to call them just in case it was their website. I did speak to them about it and they were very nice on the phone. Who knows, you might be able to get a bigger discount from them on the phone too! If you have any other questions let me know!
  22. We did not end up doing this... about a week before we left I found a "Congratulations!" plate that was in our colors - everyone signed it in lieu of a guest book. I still love the idea of postcards though. What we had planned to do was to put the postcards in the OOT bags, with Jamaican postage, and having our guests give them to the reception desk to mail. Since they would've been pre-addressed and stamped, we figured people would actually do it. We were going to write something in our welcome trifold about it... like I said though, we ended up skipping it.
  23. How fun Heidi! Can't wait to hear all about it!
