  1. Our Speedo Guy was actually quite respectful; he stayed off to the side and didn't get too up close and personal (we were in a pavilion on the beach, not directly on the sand, so that helped). I think I would have been a little more uncomfortable in a situation like the original post, however! Oh well, nothing is ever perfect, is it?
  2. I just learned that there is a tradition of celebrating 100 days of marriage... I did not know this! Maybe it is underground? Archaic? Just an excuse to celebrate because it's fun? In any case, I'm curious as to whether others celebrate this, and what they have done/plan on doing to mark the occasion.
  3. This is the experience we had with ours. Everyone got along so well in the Bahamas - many of them never having met each other - and they were thrilled to see each other again two weeks after the ceremony.
  4. We did our AHR a week after we returned home from our honeymoon, but we made it more of a party than another wedding reception (we figured we did the whole shebang while we were away, and so we would celebrate it but not replicate it). We had 200 people, and we did a Sunday afternoon cruise on a yacht with cocktails and a lot of food. We had toasts, and that was it. We didn't even have assigned seating, except for limited mobility guests and the wedding party. All of the wedding party was identified by corsages and boutonnieres, and that was pretty much the extent of it. I didn't even wear my wedding dress; I wore a short ivory dress instead (I guess it could be classified as a "short wedding dress"). Here's my thought on the AHR: if you want the experience of having a larger reception, by all means have at it. The way I felt about mine, however, was that it was more for my parents. I was perfectly content with my DW reception (as was my husband, but he's actually glad we did the AHR now). In fact, I barely remember my AHR because there were so many people and I was busy running around trying to make sure I spoke with all of them. Everyone did rave about it though, so it's nice that so many people were happy.

  6. Thanks very much (and to PrettyPigPig too). I forgot to post the price: $228. The bridesmaid's dresses were each $80. (Also just thought I would quietly clarify that I posted body details just to indicate fitting difficulty and give some kudos to the dressmakers, nothing more. :/)
  7. We did this and they turned out great. Here's a tip: when your guys are measuring, have them wear a suit they like and take them that way. That's what my dad did and his turned out the best (no tweaks necessary). Here are the guys:
  8. Not country at all, but we did "My Girl" by The Temptations. The lyrics work (and I happened to born in "the month of May" so double bonus), it's short so we didn't have all eyes for an uncomfortably long period of time (neither of us are big on that), and we had some hometown roots incorporated into our destination wedding (we're from Detroit).
  9. Ours made it into our engagement photo: But typically:
  10. a subject I never liked in school = religion
  11. Married: Lola Leatheridge Married: Lola SweetHooter Talk about being glad to be marrying away a name!
  12. I'm already married and nowhere close!
  13. My (now) husband picked mine out all himself, both the engagement ring and the wedding band. We picked his out together:
  14. I let my bridesmaids pick both the dress and the color. They ordered them from inweddingdress (which is the same place I got my dress) and they turned out great. The girls looked beautiful:
  15. We actually had a reverse... as we were getting married, we could see and guy in a Speedo taking photos of US! Thankfully one of our guests caught it on film:
  16. I just thought I'd give testimonial as well: I ordered my dress and my bridesmaids dresses from inweddingdress.com and it worked out great. I probably should have had the straps adjusted a bit, but I honestly forgot to do it before I left. Please note that I am a 5'8" size 4 with and E cup and a swimmer's back; I am VERY difficult to fit and I think they did a great job considering they never saw my body in person! I will also say this: if you're difficult to fit like I am and you're considering ordering your dress this way, I highly recommend having a corset back as opposed to a zipper. This is the pic that I chose: And here's what I got: (and back): Hip detail: Neckline detail: Bridesmaids:
  17. I want to stay as local and sort of connected to the atmosphere as I could, so I went tropical: And the bridesmaids carried smaller versions:
  18. We bought our bridesmaids dresses and our groomsmen's suits as their gifts, but I should caveat that: we only had 2 bridesmaids and 2 groomsmen, so there were less people to satisfy. I also let my bridesmaids pick both the color and style of dress. I am also giving each of them silver picture frames with photos of themselves and their significant others after the fact. I realize this is a nontraditional route, but we sat down and had a frank discussion and everyone agreed that they would rather not have to worry about purchasing their own attire than to have some sort of trinket (they don't know they're getting the frames yet, though; I just thought it would something nice for them to have).
  19. We did this too, and it worked out brilliantly. A little tip: to avoid having to have them altered when they come in, have the guys wear a suit that they currently own that fits well, and do the measurements while they're wearing it. That's what my dad did for his, and his came without have to have any tweaking done. Two out of three of the others did have to have some adjustments, but nothing over $30 (and he probably should have, but, you know... . Here's a pic of my husband (middle) and his two groomsmen (from three weeks ago):
  20. We did this three weeks ago in Nassau, Bahamas. We did ours through WishLantern and we got the Eco Wish Lanterns. If you show that they're natural, biodegradable, etc. etc. it may help your case if you end up having to negotiate/defend them, just a thought. In any case, they turned out awesome. I think the part I liked best, aside from how beautiful they were, was watching all of my guests come together at the end of the night and just have fun doing a group activity together. I wish I had some better pics for you, but our photographer wasn't contracted for the whole night Here are a few though:
