  6. Welcome! I am also a fellow Jamaica bride. I am getting married May 3rd 2011 at the Gran Bahia. We chose it as it was reasonably priced and the gazebo for the wedding is beautiful! Good luck in you planning - there is tons of info here! Maybe check out the Jamaica thread as it has reviwes and the 2011 brides thread as we are all in there!

I thought having a big dress would make me hot, so we decided to keep the ceremony outside later in the day to avoid the extreme heat and make it short and sweet, then have our reception inside with A/C. Then I am only outside for a bit . Plus our reception site has plenty of windows to make it not a stuffy ballroom . You could always find a shorter dress to change into if you think the heat might get to you, but of course if you are spending a good amount on the dress I wouldnt want to change either . Once you get dresses on you will have a better ideal of what works and what doesn't, I knew instantly I didnt want a satin dress, they were sooo heavy!!! The raw silk is very light and airy All the best I also got a silk dress after talking to the woman at the salon. She suggested paying a bit more for the dress so I would be cool. I think she said material like tafeta (sp?) would be the hottest as it doesnt breathe. Also think about what you are wearing under neath as that could also add to the heat factor. I think I am going to wear a pair of either lace or cotton undies and hopefully no bra...haha

  12. Hey everyone, This forum has given me SO MUCH information for my wedding and has truly made it what I have always dreamed of. I thought I would share something I am going to do. We have gotten sea glass which we are going to attach to card stock and have a poem on it. We are going to leave it on the seats at the reception with our tears of joy packets. We are going to ask for them back and have a vase in our house with the sea glass in it that will sit next to our sand ceremony frame. We thought this was a nice way to include everyone and for everyone to put their best wishes into. We will also have the person marrying us say this in the opening when we thanks everyone for coming. This is the poem: Hold this magical sea glass in your hand and be reminded of the sandy beach, the salty air, the pounding waves, seashells and driftwood, and the blue sky and sea. And be reminded of this special day of Kate & Mike’s wedding. Just like the turbulent tides and the calm seas, their marriage will have its ups and downs, and just like this sea glass, it will become even more beautiful, and it will endure the test of time.

Another bride on here made sashes out of fabric like this that I just LOVED, but I can't seem to find anything like it anywhere. So then I started thinking that maybe I could alternate royal blue and turquoise blue organza sashes, but I am wondering if this would look good or not... I think I finally found some iridescent ones, I actually thought of you when I found them, lol. Here is the link I know mine are more aqua than yours 9x108 Crystal Organza Sash-Jade50726(10pcs/pk) Maybe yours? 9x108 Crystal Organza Sash-Peacock50759(10pcs/pk)

  20. I also feel the same way however there are many people that arent coming that want to feel as though they are apart of the wedding etc. My bridal party is throwing me one but I have stated that I do not expect gifts...its more of a get-together in my mind..
  21. I think we are planning to have a bonfire or something the night before the wedding or everyone go to dinner. We are also planning a dinner the night before we leave to thank everyone etc. Its really up to you what you want to do - thats the beauty of a DW!
