  1. Can I ask - where did you get those Jamaica totes?! I love those!
  2. Glamourina, can you tell me where you got those? I'm finding it hard to find reasonably priced items that can be shipped to Canada!
  3. Scubadiva, I am having a similar problem. My MOH is getting married a few months before I am, and she is unable to confirm if she will be able to come until after her wedding. The problem is, who knows if there will still be space on the plane/at the resort by the time she can confirm...we're coming on a charter flight from Vancouver to Jamaica that only flies once a week, so there's a chance that she might not be able to get on the plane =( And that's only if she is able to afford it - if they go too much into debt after their wedding, they've warned us that they might not come. At the end of the day, I'm just looking forward to marrying the love of my life in a beautiful setting. Whether I'm surrounded by ALL of my family and friends or just a few of them, I'll be happy=) As for my MOH, if she isn't able to come on the trip, she will simply be a big part of the AHR and she is fine with that.
  4. Thanks for all your suggestions, ladies, but FI and I have decided to go with Stacey Clarke - her work is amazing, she is very reasonably priced and she has been so incredibly nice over email. Also she is very fast at responding to my millions of questions! After our wedding I will be sure to do a complete review of Stacey's work (along with a complete review of my wedding in general, of course!)
  5. I'm interested, and I'm in Vancouver too! Do you think you could send me a pic or post a pic of them? Thanks=)
  6. The photographer that I am about to hire mentioned that Couples resorts charges a $500US vendors fee. I'm not staying at Couples, however, I'm staying at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay. Does anyone know if the RPTB also charges a vendors fee to have outside photographers? I've looked all through the weddings by RIU brochure and it doesn't seem to mention a vendors fee anywhere, just that 80% of the guests must be staying at the hotel in order to have the ceremony there...
  7. Great job! I'm not sure what zots is but I'm sure I'll be in love with it too once I start with all my DIY projects haha
  8. Beautiful dress! I've already bought mine, and am completely in love with/obsessed with it, otherwise I'd seriously consider this! I'm sure you'll have no problem selling it, it's gorgeous. I'd love to see your wedding pics =)
  9. Thanks for the tip, Jacilynda. I have thought about that, although in my mind for some reason I just kept thinking "flying someone to Jamaica with us will be way more expensive than hiring locally!" But I guess the more I think about it, the more sense it makes. I'm definitely gonna look into that =)
  10. Anyone have any recommendations for videographers/photographers in Negril? I'm getting married on May 26, 2010 at Riu Palace Tropical Bay. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  11. I'm definitely wearing my wedding dress to our AHR, but I am toying with the idea of changing once the dancing portion of the evening starts. My dress has a trumpet skirt with a small train (and the dress is pleated all the way down) so it can't be pleated so I worry that people might step on my pretty dress during all the dancing! Plus, it's an excuse to shop for a short, cute ivory dress for the reception! Keira, I LOVE that first dress!! In fact, I've got my eye on that one, now, too
  12. I'm from the west coast, doing our DW in Jamaica in May 2010 and our AHR on June 18, 2010. Our AHR is at the Heritage Hall in Vancouver. Just wondering if there are any other Canadian brides out there preparing for an AHR? We've got the actual DW planning all pretty much done (we're booked, ceremony details confirmed, dress bought, rings on hold, etc) so now I've got the next 8 months to focus on the AHR! My plan is to DIY as much as possible, in order to keep the cost down but a lot of the stuff I've come across on the net are hard to come by in Canada (or materials just cost an arm and a leg to ship here!) Anyone have any good suggestions??
  13. aww, I love this thread. My colours are similar - turquoise, tangerine and canary yellow =)
  14. haha I totally had to google Bubba Kegs too! Now I totally want to include those in my OOT bags!
  15. WOW - great thread! I'm so glad to have the wisdom of all you other Canadian brides to draw on! I haven't quite gotten to the planning/purchasing of the OOT bags yet, as we're waiting to see exactly how many people are coming, but when I do I will definitely return and share the wealth here!
  16. Hi, I'd love to buy the calla lily bouquet as well as the orange calla bout (but will take both the white and orange bouts if that is a deal breaker!). Please let me know if these are still available! Thanks=) I'm interested in buying these off of you right away, so please email me at [email protected] - I won't be able to check this forum until tomorrow night, so direct email is faster. Thanks!
  17. Aww, thanks for all your comments, ladies! I sure do love this forum - it's great to know that we all have similar experiences with dress shopping and everything else!
  18. Here's mine (just bought it yesterday and it's nothing like I thought I'd end up with!) For some reason I forgot to take pics of me in the dress so here it is on some models:
  19. It wouldn't be tacky! I know several people that have sent out their STD by email, with a link to their website. Just wondering, are you planning on sending out formal invitations closer to the date at all? I ask because FI and I decided to fork out the money to mail STDs, but we are not going to send out formal invitations closer to the date, we're going to do that via email since everyone will already have received their STD 9 months earlier and will have visited our website...
  20. Wow, they say when you put on THE dress, you just know and boy were they right! I've been looking around online for months and have several dozen dresses that I bookmarked and thought I loved, and I was sure I'd end up in one of those dresses. Then yesterday I went to the bridal gallery for the first time, thinking I would simply try on a few different styles (the ones I'd bookmarked) and then decide which of my online faves I'd purchase. Well, needless to say, all of the styles I thought I'd love looked terrible on me! I was disappointed, for sure, but was pleasantly surprised when I tried on a V neck (I normally hate V necks for some reason) fitted (I thought my dress would be flowey for sure) Mermaid gown (again, I normally dislike mermaid style and thought it would look terrible on me) with pleated empire bodice and trumpet skirt. When I put it on, my MOH and my mother were stunned and (almost) speechless...they both said they loved it and I knew it was my dress. For posterity, I tried on about a dozen more dresses afterwards, but my mind kept going back to the mermaid gown and I kept wanting to put it back on...so when I finally did, I starting crying because I knew it was my dress! I was lucky enough that the rack size fit me so I bought it and brought it home with me (well, to my mom's place, since I can't let FI see it!) Everyone will be so surprised when they see me in this gown, especially FI, since it is nothing like I usually like and nothing like I even thought it would be! For some reason I forgot to take pics of me in the dress. Here are some pics from their website: Thanks for reading, ladies. I am just SO happy with my dress and can't wait to wear it on my wedding day...and at my AHR!
  21. Love these, you did a fantastic job! Love the colour combo, too. Our colours are turquoise and tangerine, very similar to yours!
  22. Great thread! I'll be sure to come back and fill mine out as soon as I've got more done for my wedding! Nice to meet all you other Canadian destination brides on here=)
