  1. I died laughing at the thongs. I'd be scared about my job sitch too lol. GREAT STORY. and Congrats!!
  2. I'd suggest waiting until close to the date and shopping for a few different shades of makeup then. You may have to end up blending a few different shades to get spot on. My skin tone is between shades so every shoot I do the MUAs always have to do a little mixing project to get the ride shade. I'd also suggest hiding from the sun as much as you can just before the big day just so you stay close to the shades of makeup you purchased. Good luck!! Sidebar: i'm just like you, i darken up super fast even with sunscreen on and short amounts of time int he sun, i love it! tho if I wore makeup on a regular basis i would probably hate it.

My hair is really thin so I just normally wear it straight. During the summer I just get a sew in and just wash and go. You do a good job with styling your hair I think you should be able to pull that hair style off. What about twist outs or braid outs, even bantu knot outs? they can fake fullness because they give volume and curl to the hair, maybe that can be a style option for when you don't have your sew-ins in. I'm glad your stylist refused to give those to you. Some folks will do anything to the hair and not try to maintain the health.

I'm loving my natural hair and being a 'natural hair advocate' lol. (i'm not one of those holier than thou naturals who feel that every black woman should go/be natural though) I just LOVE natural hair Wow 5 years au naturale go you!!! Did you transition or do a big chop? I'll definitely urge against my daughter getting one, but I feel like I'll be her primary role model and I'd hope she'd want to follow my lead in that respect. If she wanted one, I'd let her make that decision in her teens. It's likely she'll have a looser curl pattern than mine since FI's hair is bone straight, so hopefully relaxing wont even be on her radar.

  7. so i tried a "dramatic updo" copied from: Just had to change it up cuz my hair is curly/big/natural instead of bone straight like hers was in the pic. So here's my first attempt: (more pix on my HAIR BLOG) This awesome girl called WestIndianBeauty has a tutorial on how to do the style on straight hair: YouTube - Alicia Keys Updo: Fish Tail TUTORIAL
  8. Short n sweet you and your hair look beautiful!!! I see some waves left from the curls in that first pic. you and hubby look adorable together. CONGRAAAAAAAAAAAATTSS
  9. Oh gosh, this thread is makin me nervous! I'm 5'4 but I'm really small bodied (jrs size 0). I hope I don't have too much of a problem finding a dress.

I have length to it, it's about bra strap give or take after a flat iron- but it's not relaxed and that carribean humidity is NOT going to support the sleek style I want. I need to hurry up and make a flippin decision. The clock is ticking. For those that have experience with lace fronts- where all did you get yours? Was application easy to learn to do? Here's a pic of how I want my hair. Nikki That style is beautiful, some dominican women are great on natural black hair, if you use a moisture blocking product it may help it stay for the day, and then for the rest of your trip you can go naturally curly? Sorry I can't help on the lacefront question, i know nothing about that stuff. But that forum BHM black hair media has a lot of wig/weave sections that could help you out Quote: Originally Posted by JanineA Nikki I wish I had some advice for you but I don't even know what lace front is.....yes I am truly wet behind the ears. My hairdresser is from DR and she is fabulous! Even when I had my natural hair she would blow it out and it would last a full week...gym and all! I also know that they do wonderful weaves there....very undetectable. When I told her I wanted to do something with mine she first suggested me doing it there....she doesn't do weave and it is not practical when I can fly to NY (THANK GOD for Danyelle). I see her this weekend. If you want I can ask her the absolute best person to do a weave there. I don't know...just trying to be helpful. Good luck, I'll still ask her and see what she says. OOOOH i hope she knows a good weaver down there, that would be perfect!! My fingers are crossed for you Nikki Quote: Originally Posted by Diva I will definitely try it thanks!!! I swear if I lose her....well I don't know what I'll do. When she goes home to DR I literally count the days till she is back. I'll check into the clip ins and thanks for all the suggestions. You rock! Oh YAY!!! Thanks!!! I'm glad you like it. Ooooh i know what you mean about a stylist you love that much!!! It's so nice to have one!!! I was stylist reliant for a while too, then in 2005 i bought a maxiglide, and NEVER looked back. That ish is amazing!!! it straightens out every single nappy bit of my hair and leaves it bone straight, so I don't need to relax to be straight anymore. And it also helped me save money by not going to the salon as much. I still love my stylist, and will go for color etc... but I'm so happy I can straighten on my own now. That maxiglide is like magic. You can check the results on my blog or on the youtube channel. That tool is my new babydaddy.

My hair just never seems to get too far south of my bra strap and I wanted to add some length to it for wedding day. I have been completely lost. My hair stylist doesn't do extensions or anything of that sort, just blow outs and my friends just don't have my type of hair so turning to them is useless. I was thinking about clip ins but was unsure where to look or even what brand to look into. I am gonna see if I can find a store in Miami that carries the remy renoir. My hardest thing will probably be matching my hair color. Thank you, thank you, thank you though cause I feel like at least I have some direction now. YAY!! I'm glad I could help! Well good luck, you can call luxuryhairplus and see if they'll ship to you in fl, and ask them where they're carried down there. BUT! My friend did this and I thought she was a genius.....she bought strips of hair (tracks?) and made them into clip ons by sewing on clips that were sold at the beauty supply store. She matched the hair to her head in store, wrote down the brand/color etc. and ordered online somewhere for cheaper and then MADE her own clip ins. You may really want to check out LHCF (longhaircareforums.com) for info on weaves. I know a lot of women like BHM black hair media forums...they have a whole section about weaving and whatnot so maybe you'll find more clip in info there. 13. Oooh I just love this thread, I talk hair all day!! (i even blog about it lol) Quote: Originally Posted by staceysbride I know the feeling- I'm about to put in a texturizer right now. My hair just got sooo thick over the years that even I can't handle doing it. And when I do go to a salon it's always a nightmare because I lose length due to them ripping at my hair to detangle it. I was in tears the last time I came from the salon. And I don't have....grrrrr hate using the phrase...bad hair, but the domincan ladies were all 'pelo malo' (as if I didn't know any spanish) and trying to get me to relax it. I lost 3 inches PLUS what had to be trimmed for splits that day cause the lady was just ripping the comb through my hair trying to detangle it. I'm leaning more and more towards a weave, thinking remy saga. Am visiting Philly (half bz half pleasure) and the stores here all have remi by outre. I wonder if it's the same quality? Anyone else used the remi by outre and have any comments or reviews? I'm so sorry about your salon experience. I think the person doing your hair was just not qualified to do so. Also, you may want to ask if you can detangle it on your own when in salons to avoid that. I'm totally DIY with my hair now but when I was a salon goer and they started to put a comb to my head, I'd just say "oh i got it" and whip out my wide tooth comb from my purse and go to town (GENTLY) on my tangles. Maybe next time? Oh and I'm no weave pro, but I recently did a shoot for Get REMI and HUMAN HAIR EXTENSIONS and FREE PRIORITY SHIPPING on PREMIUM QUALITY HAIR and they used their 100% human renoir remy hair and it was incredible. When I felt all my hair at once i didn't know what was mine and what was the clip ins! Crazy. Anyway, they don't have only clip ins, it's good stuff. They're based in NYC but ship all over. Maybe that could be an option? Quote: Originally Posted by Natural Also, for all the natural ladies you may want to join Napputrality.com its a hair forum all about natural hair. Love nappturality!! 14. Woot woot!!! Giiiiirl you are a stunner!!! Thanks for the review and congrats to you and your hubster!
  15. WOW so awesome. So many details!!! Everything looks beautifully done.
  16. Everything looks lovely!! And oh man that dress is to die for. I love the simple and pretty bm dresses too.
  17. Poor girl. Poor poor girl. She's so unhappy. I feel so bad for her and her poor mother's hear breaking. She needs so much therapy and work on her inside. I teared up watching her. She used to look like a healthy sunny california girl, and even after nose job 1 she looked okay, but she's gone so far...I pray she gets therapy and learns to love herself.
  18. Very informative thread. I feel like just even starting to plan this is the most stressful part. First we couldn't decide what to do or where to do it so we agreed on a backyard wedding at my family's Florida home. Then FI said his family wouldn't travel from NJ so we decided to just elope! (which is what i secretly wanted all along!) Now, due to stressful family issues, we're not eloping at the end of this month as planned. Now we're back at square one, with FI not wanting to elope, and us being at a standstill because he wants his family there (who he says won't travel) and I want a destination beach wedding. GRRRRRRR OK, sorry for that, i guess i needed to vent.
  19. Finally heard back from HTR! I'm able to have my wedding on my first choice date! So happy!!
