  1. Lotsa New Yorkers!!! We should do a Manhattan Meetup!
  2. Hi Steph, I hope you don't mind me doing this. If you do, I'll ask a Mod to close this thread. I just see that you've offered your Local Las Vegas insider info and I'd love to ask some questions that maybe other brides have. So instead of PMing you I'm making the thread hoping that other brides who may want a local's input would do the same. My Question: Do you know of an inexpensive or off-strip spa location that I could go with my girls/mom(s) for some pre-wedding pampering? (even if it's just nails and waxing) Thanks in advance!!! Steph, again, if this is too much for you let me know either here or via PM and I'll have the thread removed. Here's hoping you don't mind tho!!!
  3. Thanks for the responses ladies!! Thanks for the ideas FutureMrsFF! I'm thinking of personalized stemless wine glasses, coasters and wine corks. (i know its a lot but i want to give something "worthwhile" as a thank you for hauling your butt out to vegas for me gift) I haven't heard of storybook brides but I'll check em out. I wanted to find a freelance makeup artist not affiliated with a big company though, but I'll look! It's all so exciting!!

  5. I'm excited! We (finally!) decided on our location and chose Vegas. This is great news for my hair, cuz now I have more options. I was going to do a natural curly chignon or some updo that would beat the caribbean humidity, like this: But now that I'll be in a dry climate, I'm going to be able to straighten my hair and wear it long and loose or half up. I'm looking at something like: or Nice and Simple
  6. I've eaten at and enjoyed the mandalay buffet, and paris buffet. I don't know if they have separate rooms though. Are you getting married at a resort hotel? maybe the coordinator there could help you out.
  7. Great Site!!! smartervegas is another site you can use for deals.
  8. I just wanted to share the tentative plans of FI and I. I'm on here a lot less and on the vegas boards on TheKnot a lot more and have gotten SO many good ideas there. Anyway, it's Vegas Wedding Planning Bio
  9. The mandalay buffet is great. It has options for kids too so everyone should be satisfied
  10. MysTea there are some before and after pix on longhaircareforum if you're interested.
  11. Thanks ladies!! Future Mrs. We're between MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay right now. Mandalay's Falls area looks beautiful! And MGM's Terrazza looks pretty too. What about you? Any decisions yet? Thanks for the offer Steph. It's all feeling so real alluva sudden lol. I'm sure I'll throw tons of questions your way soon. We're coming out for a visit columbus day weekend to do tastings, and make our final decision on location. I'm so excited!
  12. That is gorgeous!! I'm so glad you found the one when you almost quit for the day.
  13. Hi Girls!!! John and I have been through sooo much with this wedding planning. Our Mexico trip was cancelled and we dealt with many losses. We decided (yesterday!) to get married in Vegas!! (sidebar: i wanted to elope in vegas just me and him in the first place...) We're not eloping but have decided to have an outdoor ceremony, and an in-suite reception of some kind, but are unsure, because we also like the idea of hosting a dinner. Question for you ladies: Does this sound reasonable?? We have our ceremony(11am maybe), and then a lunch en-suite (12-2 maybe?) let everyone go do what they wish for the day, and then host a dinner at a restaurant (6 or 7) with the "afterparty" back at the suite(10-11 till whenever). Does that sound ok or is it too much? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
  14. What a gorgeous dress!!! It's beautiful, YES it's beachy and....IT LOOKS GORGEOUS ON YOU!!!!! What's the designer? I want to check out more of the collection.
  15. BKT is so popular these days!! Heartbeat have you done it before? I'd suggest doing it like asap, and then see how long it lasts on your hair, and then do it again just before you go away since you have a few months till then. For some it doesn't make their hair bone straight when in contact with water (like a bone straight perm does) but it makes it way easier to straighten, stay straight longer, and loosens the curl pattern when the hair gets wet.
  16. Hey Chocolate Brides!!! Daaaag looks like I missed a lot! Hope everyone's doin well. Happy Friday and Hope you all have a great weekend! Tryin to catch up with all the new posts: Quote: Originally Posted by dstinationdrmr Hi Ladies, I must say, I've been on this site for a few months now and had no clue there were so many "chocolate brides." I'm glad I have this new outlet to get info and get your ideas/feedback. I have been going through hair woes for the past year and I have to say that once again I'm at a crossroads. I have no clue what to do with my hair on a daily basis nevertheless for my wedding A year ago I got my hair died black and had a horrible allergic reaction. So I tried to stop getting chemicals all together but only lasted for about 6 months. By the end of that time I think I was ready to shave my head (too bad I don't have the face for that). I sweat from my scalp and that was the one of the main reasons that natural didn't work for me. Once I'd leave the gym, it just looked like I needed wash/blow out everyday! Then once I did get relaxed again, my hair was so thin I hated it. So, since then I've had a sew-in. Now that I'm ready to get rid of that I have no clue what to do next. Everybody says that I have "nice" enough hair to go natural, but just in that 6 months I broke so many combs that I got sick of it all. Anyway, sorry to vent but I'm just really confused. FI's sister is one of my BMs and she does hair so I think getting my hair done for the wedding won't be a problem. It's what am I supposed to do now that I'm struggling with!! Sorry about your woes Why not try transitioning to natural again. There are so many resources to help you learn to deal with the natural growth without breakin combs on my blog Natural Coils & Kinks, the sidebar has a list of a lot of really good blogs and sites for natural hair help. Thank goodness you have hair help at the wedding!! That's a godsend. Quote: Originally Posted by Mischaka Meredith...I don't know what you are talking about not having the face for short hair!! I'm not tryin to be contrary or anything, but I just want to say, texturizers, relaxers, texlaxers, silkeners etc etc etc.... It's ALL the same stuff. I don't know what to do, I have only wore a weave once and I had it done in Rome, Italy. I wouldn't know where to go get a good weave sewn in here in MD. Boy, do I miss my maintanance free short hair. I am afraid even if I perm my hair, the humidity will end up making my hair look like Don King. I have been wearing braids for the past few months. Any suggestions? What about a twistout worn loose, or a braid out or bun out depending on the wave pattern you want. Also, were you rinsing your scalp daily when you were working out, and moisturizing your hair root to tip? That may help with the retention, cuz hair's always growing (unless ur ill), it's just the length is not necessarily being retained. CurlyNikki would be a great reference for you too! TONS of knowledgeable natural ladies there. For me, it's low maint, especially with everything I have going on...lol I love how our hair can be as low maintenance or as high maintenance as we want it to be!! Your twistout sounds beautiful and I'm leaning toward a twistout pinned up somehow with a flower for my style too...but we'll see what I actually end up with, lord knows my mind changes from day to day.

  18. We're spending most of January in Honduras. I hear such good things about Roatan. THe folks I was with in Guatemala this year are now in Utila, another great dive spot I heard. We just got certified and wanted to go somewhere to dive inexpensively. Found some inexpensive villas/apartments on Roatan. SO excited to spend a few weeks there!!
