    I could only see that being the case if you were having a very traditional, formal wedding and even then that's pushing it. It's your wedding and I think you should do whatever you want to!

    I've stayed at the Riu Palace in the Mayan Riviera and had an awesome time. The staff were accomodating and always friendly, the grounds were beautiful and food was good. I would agree with saltocoach and check out trip advisor. I think it's good to be aware of those with "bad" experiences and decide for yourself if it's alright with you. As for my opinion, I loved it enough to book my wedding at another Riu Palace (Cabo).

    I'm considering this option as well. I might do a combination of fake flowers and real. Real touch flowers for my bridesmaids and decor. Real flowers for my bouquet and centrepieces.

    Omg, that's awful - and there's nothing you can do about that? I'm going to speak to my travel agent and see if we can come up with a contigency plan just in case. Unfortunately with the Riu Palace, they ARE the only tour operator for us. Thanks so much for the heads up on this.

    I'm looking for quotes right now for a June 2010 wedding. I've gotten quotes from $1900 - $2150 for the Riu Palace in Los Cabos from Toronto. This is higher than I expected, but we're also looking at passing on the savings of the "16th person free" to our guests. We don't know if we should wait and see if the prices drop.

    Thanks everyone for sharing. I'm struggling with this as well. I'm leaning more towards getting married legally at home and just doing a symbolic wedding because of the hassle of all the paperwork. And as Blondie25 mentioned, the number of days you have to be in Mexico before getting married.

    Does anyone know what exactly is covered in the new 'no outside vendors' rule? From what i'm reading through the thread, it sounds like no outside photographer. If I'm using Suzanne Morel, does that mean she can't have a day pass and I'd have to go to the salon? Also, does that mean I can't order flowers from another vendor?

    I have heard so many good things about Suzanne Morel, I didn't even think twice about using her for hair & makeup. Let us know how it goes with Renova Spa. I want to give my bridesmaids more options.

    Thanks - that's really helpful to have. Would this be the case if my wedding were on the mexican restaurant terrace? I'm going to pay the extra to ensure it's a private event from 8 - 11pm.

    Thanks for all of this info. I'm thinking about getting married June 30, 2010 at the Riu Palace so this thread has been very helpful. Though now I feel like I'm behind and should be planning more!

    I would agree - if your group isn't large to begin with it would look strange to have 12 people in your wedding party. I don't think it strange to have just a best man/maid of honour or none at all. I'm actually having trouble cutting my orignial list of bridesmaids, just because i think i have way too many for the size of my wedding.

    Thanks for posting that - I've been asked by several of my guests about what's happening in Mexico. Every country has their problems with crime, but it's good to know that it's happening far from the tourist areas.
